Armchair aurora watching

I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

Tromso continues to surprise...

This is the first time I've ever seen anything on the Svalbad camera - and I mean anything , not even the lights. I'm capturing this for posterity.

How nice to see Tromso and Svalbard putting on a show. Shame that there are now several cameras out of action ~ hope those get fixed soon, I want to see what's happening at the other sites!

Me too! I'm missing the north Finland one. Now Porjus is down too....

This one from Abisko at dusk pleases me.

Yippee! North Finland is back up again, even if it is dark and nothing is happening.

Yay, it looks like the North Finland webcam is back (Not just for Aurora watching but tourist spotting too!) Not a lot to be seen at the moment though.

Tromso is the best tonight so far

The moon did kind of spoil things for a few nights.
Tromso looks like it's been good right through the night and was still showing its green colours right up 'til an hour or two ago.

Agree about the moon. I have checked out some potential dates for visiting Lapland (still very much pie in the sky stage) and excluded 2 of the 3 dates because they coincide with the full moon.
