None of the models are showing anything particularly cold yet, just cooler. GFS goes out to the 22nd and shows quite a strong storm which would bring a mix of snow (to the northern half) and rain.

Until then generally unsettled with some stronger winds at times to Scotland perhaps.

Just checked Hereford and Gloucester BBC travel maps and all our usual offenders are closed due to flooding.

Dr Foster is stuck in a traffic jam, as he's had to go long way round - River Seven at Gloucester over the A417 at low tide so I guess the heavy rain up country has reached us as well as the spring tides.

We seem to have had another huge downpour overnight and the wind woke me up a couple of times as did DD for spurious reasons and DH for snoring so an unsettled night, next doors wheelie bin was making an escape bid down the road.
Very glad I went out with a trowel and did some DIY drain clearance of the drain at the end of our drive. Full of leaves and nature rubbish and almost completely blocked. DH is always convinced I'm going to get run over while doing this Hmm
After hefty rain on the school run, all is calm now.

Windy in middle England, the mortar (or whatever it is) under the tiles has come off at the corner of the roof. Hopefully the insurance will cover it :(

It is a yellow warning for all of today, all of tonight and all of tomorrow here.

It rained a little in the night but since then, not a sausage.

I had never seen anything like Xmas eve or experienced anything like it again! I will never fly again because if it!

We were few thousand feet up waiting to land as Gatwick winds were 100mph and flooded. We ended up in Newcastle 45 mins later and it was about 70mph winds their too! The landing was frighting to say the least. I thought my little family was going to be wiped out!

I wanted to do the Pope act getting off that plane and kiss the ground!

The 8 hours down to Gatwick on a coach was rough the wind was challenging esp on A1 as so open!

Got to Garwick and it was like a breeze but the devestation left showed it was a monster of a storm. Cars were floating in carparks! No power in Gatwick packed to brim with holiday makers no place to buy a warm drink as no power and all the toilet out of order!

We made it back thankfully to get coach! So the night I booked in The Sofitel was lost. The coach went to go on a short cut and the river had burst! Three cars were floating in water and bungalows were flooded people in their wellies Xmas eve trying to pump water back out! I felt so sad for these families on xmas eve!

A taxi before us just drove into the flood? Why? It got stuck!

seeing houses in real life flooded is just devestating! I prayed and paryed but the weather has not given the land chance to recover as so sodden.

it took 2.5 hours in end for the bus yo get fromGarwick to Heathrow! A total of 8 hours to get home! 25 hours of traveling because of the storms.

I feel blessed we landed in one piece and theirfore the 25 hrs is nothing compared to being alive. I was shocked how effected Gatwick was though! When they built it did they not take into account storms and flooding of the nearby river? Heathrow down the road was fine!

Or was this the worst storm ever to hit Gatwick?

The next morning, Xmas Day I was so thankful to be home safe and dry, I saw the news that said a woman and DD with taxi driver were moments from death nearly drowned in the floods:(
I dont know if this was the same taxi? But taxi driver we saw from coach could not believe that it drove straight into the middle of it! I just hope they were safe and the passengers must have been terrified by this very stupid decision of taxi driver to even try and drive through it.

I will never forget the storms of Xmas 2013!

CCTV looks like it will be gusty but hopefully the rain will be clearing out. Your journey sounds horrific.

Today is going to be a mix of drier calmer interludes to trick us all interspersed with potentially very heavy rain and squally winds. Perhaps thunder, lightning and hail. Dont be fooled by the nice bits!

It seems calmer here in salisbury and last night it was mental for a little bit and then seemed to pick up later when I was thankfully in bed!

Not working tonight thank goodness, or tomorrow so hopefully will be calmer by Wednesday.

Nice and sunny here, but heavy showers likely this afternoon. Just what we don't need, the Seven and the Wye are already over some roads and we have surface flooding on the lanes.

More rain here, popped out this morning to the gp's, took the main roads and all was ok, stupidly tried a back road on the way home and ended up having to reverse half a mile before the road was wide enough for me to turn around, had to go all the way back to the main road and then it started to chuck it down ( very strong winds too). Now the dog is sat next to my feet crying as he wants a walk, do I brave it? It's only water after all and I can see the sun trying to break through the clouds.

digerd · 06/01/2014 12:37

Enjoyed a 'nice bit' for a few hours now. The clouds are appearing in the south and moving towards me but it seems like a 'forcefield' either stopping the clouds or disintegrating them. < I am a Starship Enterprise fan>.
Bet the cloud attack triumphs at 2pm when I take little dog for her last walkies.
The battle front is right outside my front window. Sun shining again < cheering the forcefield on> Smile

there is sun! (east kent). but... many of the roads were flooded. Was driving on the motorway/A roads and there were pockets where water was just flowing - not sure from where, to where, but it was not stagnant. It was flowing, and quite fast too.

Marne · 06/01/2014 14:01

I managed to walk the dog ( poor thing hasn't been out for 3 days ), I expect the rain is holding off for school pick up time.

What is happening tomorrow? ITV just said it will be dry in the sw but online weather forecasts are saying rain Hmm

Theoldhag ~ you have that phenomenon too? And I thought it was the drink me seeing things. I'm even thinking of doing some gardening this afternoon in the 11C heat that it's providing at the moment.

I'm also in Bournemouth, rivers are high, I'm not far from the mobile home park that keeps being evacuated, feel very sorry for them.

However, the Great Storm of 87 DH was stuck on a ferry anchored in the middle of the Channel, the ferry was just spinning around for hours! They offered everyone free food - which was chips and mars bars (huge sick bucket passed around instead)!

Reading some of these stories makes me feel very lucky. We live in Herts and have had nothing except wind and rain. We had a small tree down in front in our house, and a few leaks, but that's it, unless you count some large puddles!
