I was wondering how you lot could see all the warnings but all I could see was last weeks non existent warnings.... apparently my computer needs to tell the met office what the date is (or something) except my computer thought it as last weekend.

fixed and back in the thread now.

frosty here in the w mids. brrr.

threebats · 11/02/2014 05:54

Good morning weather watchers - absolutely pouring here in Wales (nothing unusual there I know) but sustained rain now since about 4am when it woke me up - on top of rain on top of rain - if its coming the way of Somerset/Thames then batten down the hatches and keep safe as its consistent heavy rain - no let up in the last 2 hours.

digerd · 11/02/2014 07:27

We had half a rainbow yesterday after the only downpour of the day.
1 degree in the night but 4 now so no frost/ice. Still blustery and wondering if my rose arch has fallen apart again after makeshifting it yesterday. Hmm

Wednesdays storm looks to be tracking further north than expected. If it were to remain on the current forecast track, the worst of the wind would be through Ireland, northern midlands and NE England with heavy rain across the UK, but especially southern Wales and the south of England.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/02/2014 07:45

Actually, if it followed gfs then the NW of England would also be badly hit by the wind.

So:

Today: - heavy rain, especially in the south but also NW scotland. Snow risk for northern and welsh hills is quite substantial and overnight tonight even lower levels in the midlands may see some. Strong winds - perhaps squally for a time. (so dont be surprised if the weather suddenly gets 'exciting' briefly.

Tomorrow: The storm now seems to take a more northerly track even than the met office predicted. If this remains the case the worst winds will be for Ireland, northern Wales and a swathe up through northern england and southern scotland. High mean speed winds with gusts of 70mph-80mph in those areas, 50-60 elsewhere. Please dont underestimate the effect of these winds. I will post later if the path moves back. Unfortunately it seems to make no difference to the expected rainfall and once again heavy rain will occur, affecting those who are flooded further.

Thursday: A quieter day, showers about but winds calmer.

Friday/Saturday: The storm is there. Not especially windy but another bringer of heavy rain over friday night. This storm just doesnt sit right with me, its coming from a slightly strange angle and I think we need to be prepared for surprises. Not a scientific feeling, just a bit of a gut one. Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing.

Longer term: well no big storms show which is good news, but the rain doesnt really vanish, just in general becomes less intense.

I will be back when I can today. Busy day I'm afraid.

Worcestershire here. It is pouring with rain.

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 11/02/2014 09:27

Mid-Somerset - horizontal rain like needles, blowing a gale, even the dog was glad to get home today.

Marne · 11/02/2014 09:42

Not great in Dorset, got very wet just taking the kids from my car into school, it's was raining so hard, the playground was like a lake and the roads like rivers, I don't think I have seen rain as heavy as we have had in the past 2 months other than in the carabbean (tropical storms). Apparently if it does stop raining anytime soon it will still take until May for the floods to fully go down and for the ground to dry out.

Hope everyone's staying safe and following instructions from the environmental agency and met office.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 11/02/2014 10:04

travellingwilbury · 11/02/2014 10:14

People are just so down .

denialandpanic · 11/02/2014 10:29

south west Surrey, really windy

mrsquagmire · 11/02/2014 10:30

Been snowing in Staffs. Feeling nervous about tomorrow's gales. We've got off lightly so far, have been feeling so sorry for all the poor souls who've been copping the worst of it.

BlackeyedSusan · 11/02/2014 10:38

w mids heavy rain here and has been for a couple of hours at least. maybe not as intense as a thunderstorm but still plenty of it.

Sparklingbrook · 11/02/2014 10:42

Worcestershire. Just has a snow flurry too. the rain has stopped. For now.

BlackeyedSusan · 11/02/2014 10:44

BlackeyedSusan · 11/02/2014 10:50

'Interesting' weather here (Leicester) Started off with several hours of rain (temps up to 6.3C at 10.57am) but in 1/2 an hour, we've had hail (just as I was unloading the shopping ~ didn't know hail could hurt that much!) and now we're having snow flurries and we're down to 1.8C. Bit of a temperature drop there!

SnakeyMcBadass · 11/02/2014 11:30

South Derbyshire and it's been snowing for the last hour, large flakes, and it's covering my lawn. Temp 0.9C. Buggeration.

GloriaSmud · 11/02/2014 11:30

Snow showing up nicely here.

ihatethecold · 11/02/2014 11:32

They just said on the bbc that the jet stream that is stuck over Southern England should move northwards in about 3 weeks to where it should be.

How can they know that?

coffeeinbed · 11/02/2014 11:33

It's welcome to bugger off.
