West Sussex folk, I'll add this message here as well as the previous thread, can you all come here and post an update, pretty please? :)

Those Bilbao planes are using a manoeuvre called 'Crabbing' where they land sideways onto the run way.

Bloody hair raising though.

sewingandcakes · 27/10/2013 14:47

I'm in Rossendale, so not likely to get as much disruption/damage as you guys down south, but still, I've cleared the garden of toys etc, and got lighters, candles, charged phones, batteries, and chocolate. Need to get the cat in and then I think I'm ready!

We've had some gusts of wind but nothing out of the ordinary - the weather can be horrendous here anyway!

HenD19 · 27/10/2013 14:48

Sunny but getting v windy in formby, Liverpool.

digerd · 27/10/2013 14:49

Well! I go for 40 winks and when I wake up it is raining. 10 minutes later the sky is blue againConfused S.Herts

Sleeping

I sat in my living room six years ago and watched in horror as our Greengage tree blew over and landed against the house. The ground shook. Not trying to frighten you BTW but reassuring you that you are making a good decision.

Luckily it was a 'lighweight' tree but my goodness it scared me. So no, you are not being silly to be proactive in moving the children away from the room.

I was PG during the 87 storm and trapped by fallen trees and downed power lines for nearly a week. The roads were impassable. It was indescribable to see beautiful ancient and huge trees up earthed like traffic cones.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 27/10/2013 14:57

Just back from a very very windy walk with the dogs on Weston Super Mare beach. Cloud structures were amazing. Now tucked in our cosy front room with coffee and knitting.

Also in other news, exH has promised to bring the DDs back to Bristol this afternoon :)

HalloweenDidi · 27/10/2013 15:00

We've had a trip to London booked for weeks. We live up North but are supposed to be arriving in London about midday tomorrow. We're supposed to be going on the London Eye tomorrow afternoon which now seems unlikely doesn't it?

East Anglia here, sunny with rain spitting on and off and quite blustery. Got shoved around a bit by the wind walking home, luckily I had a couple of heavy bags of shopping or I might have taken off! Grin
Walked through a copse and lots of trees getting shaken around and small branches already down, but nothing major. There's a couple of huge trees on the main road that have lost big branches even without a gale, just hope that they're far enough away from any houses.

I'll be taking the train to work at 7am Monday morning on a very wobbly fen train line - that might not go well!

Hope everyone further south can stay safe and warm.

celestialsquirrels · 27/10/2013 15:01

Hmm. Well I've told him what I think, it is for him to make the right decision. I've told him that if he gets squashed by a tree his last thought should be "Well, she told me so" since I won't be able to screech it to him in person!

He is worried about letting down a work colleague. I think he should be more worried about leaving 4 kids fatherless but hey ho

Sleepingbunnies · 27/10/2013 15:01

Gosh! That sounds terrifying! I feel liken making the right choice now!

Varya · 27/10/2013 15:02

We could see it pouring over the Downs, but did not not get rain here. The trees are being blown around quite bit at present.

HerdyHerdwick · 27/10/2013 15:06

Did the London Eye has a service update freephone number, it's
0800 093 0123. Perhaps you could call that to see if they plan on it operating tomorrow?

HerdyHerdwick · 27/10/2013 15:06

Didi even Grin

HalloweenDidi · 27/10/2013 15:07

Thanks Herdy, I'll give them a ring in a minute.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 27/10/2013 15:15

Maybe it was on the other thread but someone was asking about moving their DCs due to worries about a nearby tree? We are doing the same, DS is in a front bedroom near a tree I'm concerned about, he's going to be in our bedroom tonight, downstairs in the back of the house. It may be silly but I feel safer.

marl · 27/10/2013 15:16

Alternating sun and sudden rain this morning in Gloucestershire. Now definitely windy and the silver birch that I refused to let the neighbour cut down because otherwise they could see into our rooms is bending even more than usual. Hmmm. It is so pretty, but would definitely be less so inside the house. I will be moving DS2 to a different bedroom tonight to be on the safe side.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 27/10/2013 15:17

Starfish I can't tell you how relieved I am, I know they would probably be fine in the hotel but exH isn't known for his common sense and forward planning and I didn't want to be one of those 'devastated mothers' on the news whose co-parent 'didn't see the danger' IYSWIM.

Sleepingbunnies · 27/10/2013 15:18
