OP posts:
iwantanafternoonnap · 28/10/2013 05:57

itsazoo I know they were stood down there in that weather just watching. I can't imagine what they are going through or the friends that were with the boy.

Its only just started to pick up here in the last hour or so. Did just have a wallop of wind come through and felt like the house was getting hit IYKWIM

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 28/10/2013 05:57

Kent is very windy, was woken about 20 mins ago and had trouble shutting the window. met office were predicting it to hit us at 8am so if this isn't it I'm now slightly terrified at the prospect of driving to work at 8am.

HissyFucker · 28/10/2013 05:58

Storm has just hit north Hampshire in thé last 20 mins.

Howling gusty winds, all my rooftiles are creaking.

Looks like the power had been off too, just heard the answerphone reset

SteamWisher · 28/10/2013 06:02

Windy here in SE London - I think it's the start. Wind picked up quite a bit a couple of hours ago but doesnt look too bad I slept on the sofa for nothing

digerd · 28/10/2013 06:03

TV weather just said it will be over quickly, but still not sure if we already have it or still to comeConfused.

mignonnette · 28/10/2013 06:03

Why were they on the beach and were they swimming? The poor parents.

Feel even more concern for the rescue services though. My BIL is voluntary lifeboat crew. He risks his life foe people who take risks.

digerd · 28/10/2013 06:04

Now they've said it will continue until the afternoonConfused

iwantanafternoonnap · 28/10/2013 06:05

Think they were just mucking about and trying to escape/jump the waves playing chicken. Obviously did not realise the extent of danger they were in. It isn't an uncommon thing to do by the sea especially as it was so warm yesterday.

HissyFucker · 28/10/2013 06:07

There is NO way i'm setting foot outside the door in this. It's due to pass about 10. I'll wait to see if it calms a bit before I attempt to go to work.

ChippingInNeedsANYFUCKER · 28/10/2013 06:09

Central South England/Hampshire/Berkshire border

It gradually got windier and windier - it's battering now and power is flickering. I have a hour before I need to leave for work, it's a tree lined route - not keen on the idea.

LtEve - are you still OK?

HissyFucker · 28/10/2013 06:09

Power is off now, and looks like that's how it'll stay for a while. :(

digerd · 28/10/2013 06:12

I'm hoping it will hurry up and get lighter before a power cut occurs. It is still so dark outside.

mignonnette · 28/10/2013 06:14

Am just hoping that my BIL will not get a shout.

Stay away from the sea, people. Don't go out to look. We don't need to see photographs on FB. We know what a wave looks like.

He is reporting seeing total idiots standing right by the waves taking photos and has already contacted the BBC in anger. The TV news did an item on the boy lost to the sea, advised people to take care then asked viewers to send in photos with the voice over superimposed onto a photograph of a wave breaching a sea wall.

Twats.

LtAllHallowsEve · 28/10/2013 06:15

Hi chipping. We are OK thanks. It seems to have died off a bit here. I've not long rescued another family's garden chairs that weren't put away and shoved them under the caravan, but the wind is nothing like as bad at is was. We've got a full gas bottle, so warm enough but the lights keep flickering so I have turned everything off except a side lamp. We don't have a torch and aren't allowed candles.

DD wants to go to the beach! Not a chance. The last time the weather was like this the waves were throwing driftwood up like matchsticks.

Oh, the rain has just started again.

IsSpringSprangedYet · 28/10/2013 06:17

North West Essex

Nothing overly out of the ordinary here. It rained a bit in the night and I can hear gusts of wind but nothing more than that. BIL said we were forecast for between 5 and 8am, so we'll see if it picks up.

Feel for the lost boy and his family. Will they even find him? Sad

RegainingUnconsciousness · 28/10/2013 06:18

All calm & quiet here in devon. It got a bit blowy overnight but didn't seem unusual for here.

Is it all over or are we in "the eye" or something and the trailing edge is still yet to come?

youarewinning · 28/10/2013 06:19

Seems to have quietend down here on Hampshire Coast.

Feelingannoyed · 28/10/2013 06:19

Nothing here in South Wales yet. They've shut both Severn bridges though so Dp isn't happy because he needs to get to work in Bristol.

Does this mean we've missed it or is out bit yet to come?

Hope everyone's ok.

ChubbyKitty · 28/10/2013 06:20

Newark windy and very wet but it won't have got here yet I don't think.

DP has walked, he left without waking me up.

linspins · 28/10/2013 06:20

Morning all. Where is the best place to check whether the storm has passed us now or is still coming? In West Kent here.
It's pretty blowy out, luckily we're not planning on going out for some while.

JillJ72 · 28/10/2013 06:21

N Bucks. Very still and raining at 2am, now blowy and rain has stopped. Pressure has dropped to 984mb. The cat came in early yesterday and slept under DS's desk. Waiting for it to get lighter so I can let the chickens into their run and see if the neighbour's trampoline is in situ - I don't expect it to have gone anywhere as the wind doesn't seem toooo bad...... Can hear the occasional train running (W coast mainline).

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 28/10/2013 06:24

Im a bit confused, is this it or just the start with worse to come?

flootshoot · 28/10/2013 06:26

issprang his body will likely wash up at some point although given the wind probably further down the coast. He was foolish but poor lad must've been terrified.

ChippingInNeedsANYFUCKER · 28/10/2013 06:26

LtEve - I'm glad you are all OK, hopefully that's the worst of it over for you. I'm pleased I'm not in a caravan here - though that being said, the wind is 'odd' < I think OYBBK might have a slightly more technical term for it!! Grin We are in a wind tunnel here on a good day and stuff blows along the terrace all the time, yet today it isn't. My complete fuckwit neighbours have all kinds of crap out there and it has barely moved yet the trees in the park down the road are all over the place - it's almost like the wind pressure is straight down?

I'm not surprised DD wants to go to the beach, I do too!! (Don't worry Mig, I'm hours away from a beach!).

If we lose power I wont be able to post as my laptop needs mains power these days and my phone is so old it doesn't 'do' the internet! :( & bloody tesco had sold out of Hudl's!!

digerd · 28/10/2013 06:28

What is hPa on my weather station ? It is 985
