Thanks hun

I don't think there is much more we can do now bar rough it out. I've got candles in and food that doesnt need cooking. Kids have had full roast dinners and pudding so are full and warm anyway.

We've moved what won't fit in the shed to between the wall to next doors garden, our shed and house (so three sides protected) which was the play house, table etc

So yeah. Just got to hope the kids sleep through it. I won't. I'll be up most of the night fretting most likely!

Thankfully none of the trees around our house are likely to cause damage

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 17:24

with dds old trampoline I could put lumps of concrete on to the legs as they were U shaped. Is that possible?

I'm just going to get my power cut kit out of the loft and start the dinner.
back soon :)

Southern trains and First Capital Connect have cancelled all trains in the morning. Network Rail have said that nothing will go until 9.00am at the earliest so that they can have a chance to check the lines.

MurderOfBanshees · 27/10/2013 17:29

Seen on the Argus there are power cuts already??

BeedlesPineNeedles · 27/10/2013 17:31

kitten If its going to be nasty in Denmark, does that also apply to Sweden? We're on the west coast roughly level with the top of Denmark.

BadRoly · 27/10/2013 17:31

Evening, all very very calm but raining here. Wind has dropped altogether. I'm in West Cornwall but not so far west as the Lizard/Penzance.

CharlieAlphaKiloEcho · 27/10/2013 17:31

Brighton here and it's a bit blowy.

But it must be serious because the storm has it's own titter account now :o

pepperrabbit · 27/10/2013 17:32

We lost power at 4pm here in West Lulworth, has been trying to come back up but very intermittent. Slightly earlier than we expected! It's back at the mo but on low voltage from what I can see (which is very little!) Very windy.
Kids skittish...

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 27/10/2013 17:32

We are on holiday in Norfolk and it's getting pretty blowy here. We are right by the sea too, gulp.

The power just blipped out but is back on again.

ringaringarosy · 27/10/2013 17:34

im in West sussex i lie on the seafront.hmmm i thought everyone was just going over the top about this and havnt really done anything to prepare for whatever these kind of things bring. All the kids ride on toys and stuff are outside,as is the trampoline, should i have done something to them?

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/10/2013 17:36

First Great Western Trains say no cancellations yet but be prepared for delays and check for updates. They also said on Twitter that anyone with tickets for tomorrow can travel today instead.

Re cats behaving oddly - I have read in the past that animals can sense the changes in air pressure before big storms, which would make sense.

ChubbyKitty · 27/10/2013 17:40

She is quite a savvy little cat - she survived a big accident and knew to come back to where the rescue people were and they brought her round to me.

Always thought she was less than intelligent before that.

Someone in my town has a big bit of tree in front of his house.

My brother is pretty annoyed with Southern trains just now - he works night shifts at their depot. They have called them in for work despite not running any trains to get them home again. Most of them travel by train as it's free.

There were power cuts in peacehaven this morning apparently. Some coastal buses are not running.

My cat is being odd, well, odder then usual. We passed a field earlier and the horses were acting really skittish too. And we saw lots of birds about too.

My personal wind gauge was the for sale sign in the garden over the road but it's dark now so I cant see it. We are second floor end of block here and literally have three sides open to the weather so it whips right around us at times.

All stocked and ready though.

MurderOfBanshees · 27/10/2013 17:44

Could I ask a quick favour, MIL is still determined to go for a drive to Brighton (from N. London) tomorrow. Anyone got any links to emergency services etc saying to avoid non-essential journeys?

theywillgrowup · 27/10/2013 17:45

marking my place,bournemouth here

BlueSprite · 27/10/2013 17:47

OYBBK, do you think it's going to be okay to do the school run tomorrow (by car, through rural area with plenty of trees) in Berkshire? It would be between 8 and 9, and involves walking past several houses with old tiles/cracked chimneys. DH in particular is worrying and thinks we ought to stay inside until later.

noblegiraffe · 27/10/2013 17:49

My neighbours still have their garden furniture out. A big plastic table and chairs Angry

BasicFish · 27/10/2013 17:49

Greater Anglia, Stanstead Express and First Capital Connect in Cambridgeshire (at least) not running anything before 9am according to National Rail service disruptions.

Linky goodness here

Cross Country haven't announced anything yet, but given their usual shoddiness they've probably forgotten to run any trains to cancel.

cloudskitchen · 27/10/2013 17:49

murder if you follow the @surreytravel feed on twitter they will update on the dodgy areas tomorrow. michael fish (if he's to be believed Grin ) says delay travel by 2-3 hours on Monday morning.

ethelb · 27/10/2013 17:50

Southwest trains not running anything till 8am and any services running either side of that will take twice as long.

grobag · 27/10/2013 17:50

Murder....Met Office forecast at 5.30pm on BBC News said driving in the morning will be dangerous.

MurderOfBanshees · 27/10/2013 17:51

Thanks clouds

The woman is being stubborn and silly, I'm hoping that if she wont listen to me and DH then she'll listen to the experts.
