I'm keeping a pretty close eye on developments for Monday. some of the models (in particular gfs) are showing a deep low developing over England, with the majority of the gfs runs taking the worst of the wind over the south.

Massive if. But if the weather were to pan out as those models are suggesting it would be a damaging storm, especially given the trees still being in leaf. I'd keep an eye on the met office early warnings page and if they start warning about it then it would be a good weekend to tidy the garden before you lose your stuff Wink

I'll update as things become clearer.

My dad is a weather forecaster of 30 odd years and he actually phoned me last night as he is concerned about this storm. He is more worried than I have ever known him. I'm on the South West coast so potentially in the worst (best) place possible. Sad

PeppermintScreams · 27/10/2013 08:25

Very windy here in Pagham.

The caravan park were handing out warning flyers last night. Their main concern is the wave height will challenge the sea defences. We need to be ready to evacuate and we are free to go home early.

We are looking at leaving this evening around 7pm unless the weather warning changes. Sad

Octopus it is def their branch :)

Ladyflumpalot I'd be really interested to get your Dads latest thoughts on this. I don't think we will hear anything from the met office til around 11am or noon.

octopus It is their branch. Do what my friend did! Her NDN is a narcisstic twat and just chucked his DW out after subjecting her to years of EA. Sad She has been asking him to cut his tree which is right over and above her washing line. He didn't so she did - got the person to bill him with a print out of the rules stating his tree and his responsibility - and all the branches were chucked his side too. Apparently he came round to abuse them (he does this if her children cry Hmm ) she just smiled and said "well rules are rules and I know how much you like to spout about being right - well now it's my turn" Grin

I'm in Oxfordshire and the sun is shining. The met office app predicts no rain and DH thinks I'm fussing about a potential storm. He reckons a little bit of wind that will have blown itself out when it reaches us.

On one hand I don't want a big storm, but please don't let him be right...

waikikamookau · 27/10/2013 09:02

in 1987 my mum had no electricity for 2 weeks
two weeks Shock

scared.
and I cant find the candles since we cleared out the kitchen, and I forgot to get a battery for the torch.
and I have a full freezer, but that is not much good if there is no electricity is there?

TheHumancatapult · 27/10/2013 09:04

We have blue sky's and sun over by Stansted airport

waikikamookau · 27/10/2013 09:05

but I have read that Michael fish says it wont be as bad.
yeah right, do you expect people to believe you Michael??

Cheesyslice · 27/10/2013 09:06

Making place.

Cloudy and blustery here in Dorking, Surrey.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 09:07

starfish - I still expect it to be pretty nasty through the channel even if the storm does downgrade.

Cat98 · 27/10/2013 09:08

Can someone please let me know what time the storm is supposed to start in s Wales? I want to know if I should be ok to be driving this morning. Will be back home by 1pm. Thank you.

waikikamookau · 27/10/2013 09:08

would it be a bad idea to take my dog fr a walk in the woods now? while they are standing Wink

digerd · 27/10/2013 09:11

octopus
The garden laws say that you prune anything hanging over your property and if neighbour doesn't want to have it back, it is your responsibility to dispose of . Sorry.

If you put it back onto their land without asking them, it is their responsibilty now and you can't dispose of it or force them to.
If it does cause damage to your property you can claim on your insurance but will be their liability.

If it is lying flatish on the ground behind a fence/wall, it should not pose a problem.

Littleredsquirrel · 27/10/2013 09:13

I think most sensible people are hoping the storm won't hit or won't be bad but there are some positives to all this. We will all have super tidy gardens, new torches and batteries on hand for next time and lots of food in!!

GloriaSmud · 27/10/2013 09:14

OYWWW - oops - I should have added the area had been extended northwards. Littleredsquirrel noticed it had changed.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 09:16

latest NAE still has a developed storm. Tracks a little further south, perhaps confining the worst weather to southern coastal counties. Looks horrid for the CI and northern France.

According to another forum "Matt on BBCnews just said he's just had meeting with Chief Forecaster and no change from 24hrs ago with track of storm"

Storm isnt cancelled yet!

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 27/10/2013 09:16

What's the difference between a developed storm and nasty gales? Does the storm have thunder and lightning?

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 09:17

cat98. no issue at all travelling today.

digerd - go for it :)

digerd · 27/10/2013 09:17

Just got back from dog walk and the breeze is definitely colder than yesterday - no gloves and hands are cold and had to put my hood up.
Will the colder air help to diffuse the storm?
Still sunny in S.Herts

misshoohaa · 27/10/2013 09:17

South coast based here - would driving to Hampshire and back be an error today? Be back by 6pm at the latest and would be m27 and m3 mainly. DH thinks we should cancel, I personally think its due later on?
Advice appreciated! Grin

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 09:19

Nasty gales can develop from storms and troughs crossing - anything that causes a pressure gradient.
If the storm developed then it would cause issues for more people. You also get the wind changing direction as the storm moves past.

For those on the south coast, there probably isnt much difference tbh.

misshoohaa - you are correct. :)

ExcuseTypos · 27/10/2013 09:21

The BBC weather on TV has just said, it's NOT going to be as bad as 1987, but we will still have very strong winds.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 27/10/2013 09:22

We've changed our ferry to lunchtime today rather than tomorrow. Seemed the most sensible thing to do but am mightily pissed off. No lovely island seafood for Sunday lunch :(
