Thunderstorm potential

Quick heads up, will try to elaborate later, but today is a bit bonkers. Looks like there is potential for some severe thunderstorms tonight/tomorrow. I'll be honest and say that I've not looked at this myself yet have nicked it off a very reputable forum Tomorrows potential depends on what happens tonight - how much cloud cover is left over as we need the sun to get things going.

Will try and be more specific later,

Just picked DS2 up from his flooded school. Sad

GloriaSmud · 28/06/2012 14:05

That was one of the scariest storms I've ever seen Continuous lightning, thunder and huge hailstones. It's carrying on now, with the low continuous rumbling of thunder and rain. And the TV's lost its signal as well now ~ I'm trying to follow the tennis here!

KittenundermyHeels · 28/06/2012 14:07

I am just outside nuneaton and we had a really bonkers storm about an hour ago. Hail stones easily the size of golf balls, some as big as small apples! Can't see any damage but i would be very surprised if the cars nearby escaped with none at all. It was quite scary, like the start of a shit disaster movie Shock

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 14:10

That does sound scary. Kitten, if you do spot any damage, please can you pm me any photos, or send them to torro the hail reports are rather remarkable - that size is rather unusual in this country. Torro would love to have your description even without photos.

We have the continuous rumbling of thunder, probably since about 10.30 this morning. I thought it was going to rain etc much sooner than it did because of it.

GloriaSmud · 28/06/2012 14:11

OYBBK ~ my parents live in Hinckley. I saw from met-monkey that there were reports of a tornado over that way and rang to check they were OK. My Mum said it was over Newbold Verdon (hope I've spelt that right!) way.

DH was standing at the front door videoing the approaching storm and one of the hailstones bounced inside and hit me (and it hurt!) It was actually an oval shape and measured 1cm long!

Pancakeflipper · 28/06/2012 14:13

We have storms. The radio keeps flipping out. My youngest and I cannot watch Jake and Netheland pirates as the TV is refusing to work. I can see grey swirling clouds over the Peaks.

And the rain came down and washed out the BBQ..... Oh it's torrential.

Pancakeflipper · 28/06/2012 14:13

Ooooh bouncing rain

Pancakeflipper · 28/06/2012 14:13

And now hail.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 14:15

pic of some rather impressive sized hail

We're in near Wolverhampton and had severe rain this morning - DD's school flooded - I have never seen so much water come down in such a short space of time. It's still over cast and drizzly now but still very very humid, so I am expecting more later.

Just spoke to DH on the phone - he is driving somewhere near Nottingham and has reported huge hailstones and torrential rain (and idiots still trying to drive 60mph + on the motorway in it)

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 14:16

Thanks for that Gloria, do they know anyone in that area?

OP posts:
Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 14:18

Claire, if you Can get an estimate of approx size and location from your dh when he isn't driving, that would be great.

OYBBK i have a picture or two. Once i figure out how to do it i will pm you a picture. I am on my phone at the moment. It got really windy and swirly just before it started raining and hailing and it had been very still prior to that.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 14:21

You are a star kitten, thank you :)

KittenundermyHeels · 28/06/2012 14:22

Gloria i am halfway between nuneaton and hinkley. I was awful so glad they are ok.

Helenagrace · 28/06/2012 14:23

The sky us getting ominously dark over Lancashire just now. DH is at home today so I have nominated him to do school run Grin.

KittenundermyHeels · 28/06/2012 14:23

IT was awful, not I!

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 14:24

Kitten, please can you put in a report to torro, they are lovely people and would be very interested in your report.

OP posts:
KittenundermyHeels · 28/06/2012 14:26

Will do.

GloriaSmud · 28/06/2012 14:27

Not in the Newbold area, no.
I'm really not enjoying this. It seems atm that as soon as one thunderstorm moves over from west-east, I look westwards and can see the next dark bank of cloud that is the next storm coming in. And I shouldn't be reading met-monkey either because they're all getting excited about storm/tornado reports!

ClaireDeTamble · 28/06/2012 14:27

He was on the A50 halfway between the Toyota island and M1 between 1:30 and 1:45. Hail was large gravel size. He's in Nottingham now and says the rain is picking up and again and it is thundering and lightening.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 28/06/2012 14:27

I'm just going on school run but will do later.

GloriaSmud · 28/06/2012 14:30

Kitten ~ it went windy and all swirly here too! I'm dreading the school run if this carries on!

hellsbells99 · 28/06/2012 14:30

hehehe DD1 on D. of E. expedition starting from tomorrow until Sunday in the depths of North Wales .....whilst I stay dry and warm at home ;)
