Thunderstorm potential

Quick heads up, will try to elaborate later, but today is a bit bonkers. Looks like there is potential for some severe thunderstorms tonight/tomorrow. I'll be honest and say that I've not looked at this myself yet have nicked it off a very reputable forum Tomorrows potential depends on what happens tonight - how much cloud cover is left over as we need the sun to get things going.

Will try and be more specific later,

Hope you manage to get more rest later OYBBK.

Nothing too bad overnight here - Woke at 5.45 to see it was raining steadily but not too heavy.

I'm in school all day today, so have elected to wear sandals to keep my feet cool. Am fully expecting soggy feet on the way home though. Grin

I'm not looking forward to later if it does thunder - we have two children in class who are terrified of it. Sad

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/06/2012 07:06

Am in school too :) Last time we had thunder a chorus of screams came over the playground.
Hope its ok for the kids in your class.

It's very strange in South Shropshire this morning. There has been a continuous deep rumble of thunder for nearly half an hour now. There have been a few lightening flashes followed by a proper bang of thunder but otherwise just a non-stop rumble that does wax and wane but never stops. There's no apparent wind. It's just rained so maybe it will move on soon.

Chaotica · 28/06/2012 09:56

Absolutely torrential rainstorm in the night (about 4.30) but its sunny now in e. midlands. (About 1cm rain in less than 1/2 hour, according to my inaccurate recording devices.)

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 28/06/2012 10:49

it is very dark here... I also feel like I need a machete to cut through the air as it is so thick. thunder and rain should arrive shortly before 2 pm as the children have a torch relay at school. there is also a possibility for rain at 11.35 as this is nursery pick up time.

the ground was wet this morning but to be honest i did not notice anything in the night other than small boy who slept on my arm.

GloriaSmud · 28/06/2012 10:52

Very much a 'calm before the storm' here in Leicester. It's a horribly muggy 22C with a few rumbles of thunder.

(BTW has anyone got a 'sandy car' this morning?! I think some Sahara sand must have blown the UK's way during the night!)

GloriaSmud · 28/06/2012 11:02

If you can get it to load (it's really slow atm, possibly because of all the lightning strikes), netweather.tv (can't do links because of its slowness), is showing a huge line of lightning strikes, running from Sheffield down to Gloucester. I think the last time I was able to get it to load, the Strike total was running at over 5000 in the last hour!

IamtheZombie · 28/06/2012 11:19

Here's the link, Gloria. It's loading fine here.

IamtheZombie ~ just been outside for a few minutes and we've got that continuous rumble of thunder too. I don't think I've ever heard anything like it before. It must be really turbulent up in them clouds!

HauntedLittleLunatic · 28/06/2012 11:25

It's very 'rumbly' here. I think its wind squaliing around....but every so often I wonder if its thunder.

I'm still in bed Blush but it looks very dark the other side of the curtains...

GloriaSmud · 28/06/2012 11:26

Thanks for that, Zombie. Think I'm having computer problems this morning!

HecateHarshPants · 28/06/2012 11:26

Yup. Bucketing it down here, and thunder too.

So much for summer Grin

HauntedLittleLunatic · 28/06/2012 11:26

Ooo I'm leicesterish too...wonder if it is actually thunder...

Well all the rumbles/dark clouds earlier was a bit of a non-event for us. It brightened up, there was great danger of the sun coming out and we had a slightly fresher breeze. But the breeze has gone and the humidity has now returned and dark clouds are looming again.

GloriaSmud · 28/06/2012 13:21

I'm all for a good storm but I'm not liking this at all!

Yani · 28/06/2012 13:43

OYBBK

Excellent - Thank you. I shall try to get DD to have an afternoon nap so that
I can peruse your links. Smile

Very muggy here this morning, then short sharp fat-drops of rain. Beautiful and sunny now. (South)

HauntedLittleLunatic · 28/06/2012 13:56

Well that was a storm and a half.

HUGE hailstones.

Constant rumbling interspersed with some loud cracks.

Yani · 28/06/2012 13:56

Hope your dd enjoys her school trip....... and you get some sleep tonight!
