As requested by our snow guru OYBBK heres the new thread as the other one is almost full.

And I have no idea why I'm still getting involved as we had no snow

OP posts:

Blackeyed ~ that was the West Midlands weather; I had the East Midlands one on so it's likely we'll get the 2-5cms and it'll be the West Midlands that gets the 5-10cms.

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2012 14:18

Yes we had Shefali Oza telling us about the 5-10cm Gloria. Sad

JKSLtd · 09/02/2012 14:21

Definitely looks like our preferred route to Devon will have snow.
Wondering if we should try the A303 route instead - may be below all the snow according to the warnings anyway.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 09/02/2012 14:32

5-10cm looks to be a very reasonable estimate for the west midlands, down through central England. To the east of those areas 2-5cm seems more likely.

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2012 14:34

Is that enough for school closures? I suppose if it's 10cm and still falling come school run time....

ohyouBadBadkitten · 09/02/2012 14:36

depends on your school - ours is famous for not closing but does let the kids have extended play in the snow.

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2012 14:37

For the first time in 8 years both DC are in schools within walking distance. It makes it far less stressful. Last year I was doing a 12 mile round trip through country lanes. Phew. Grin

QED · 09/02/2012 14:40

Definitely something still coming out of the sky near York but looks too fast for snow. Will report back more on it when I go out to school in half an hour

Hulababy · 09/02/2012 14:41

We'd need a fair bit more than 10cm before the schools closed.
But some close for a lot less if you look at school closure lists on a snowy day. Last winter when DD's school and my school closed I have pictures of DD (then 8y) up to her thighs in school playing outside on our road.

The only other time they would consider closing is for very dangerous ice. This happened a couple of years ago iirr, in Sheffield, as the roads and pavements were awful. Not seen anything like it before or since that day.

pepperrabbit · 09/02/2012 14:44

The DSs both have an Inset Day and I've booked the day as holiday so I'm quite relaxed just for once! DD's still supposed to go to nursery so we can do exciting things without her because she loves it (and I've paid!).
This means that we will get a hint of sleet and some nasty ice Angry
We have "light snow" forecast for most of the night.

GloriaSmud · 09/02/2012 14:56

DDs primary school stays open no matter what now. They did have some snow days a few years ago but then some education bod said that Leicestershire schools were too quick to close when it came to snow. Two years ago, one of the teachers fell and broke her arm when she slipped on the ice in the school playground. Even then they stayed open so one wonders now what it'll take for them to close.

mankyscotslass · 09/02/2012 14:59

Stop it with the snow talk. Envy

Cold rain here! Angry

iseenodust · 09/02/2012 15:01

Snow has arrived in E Yorks. That is 2 hrs earlier than forecast yesterday & damn inconvenient when I specifically said 6pm would be better.

iseenodust · 09/02/2012 15:04

You may place your bets based on the Met Office but have just received text from school for standby volunteers for snow clearing over weekend. I would not bet against our HT Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 09/02/2012 15:19

Snowing in Lincs but only a few flakes.

BarnabyMirage · 09/02/2012 15:41

Just this minute started snowing in Leics.

lubeybooby · 09/02/2012 15:57

Oooh can't be far from me then!

GlitterKitty · 09/02/2012 16:04

Lovely, more snow coming for London by the look of it- could do with another day sledging!

GloriaSmud · 09/02/2012 16:06

I'm sure I kept seeing tiny flakes on the school run, lubey. Should we start twiddling fingers and glancing at the sky again?!

The metoffice has us down for heavy snow from 6pm.

MrsDeeBee · 09/02/2012 16:12

Well, it's 4:08pm and no snow here yet.

Having said that, I have a black and white sibe who keeps going outside and coming back in with little white dots on him. I have been watching to see if he's knocking against the bird table and getting seed on him, but no.

My old sibe girl, who was a clever ol' girl, always knew before we did snow was on the way. I only had to see her nose twitch to know it was on it's way. We lost her last September, and I miss her so much, in so many ways too.

No proper snow yet. Grin

I am wondering if it is going to be enough to prevent my new appliance from arriving tomorrow ? I shall be a bit miffed if it is. But I don't want to complain because I love the snow !

travellingwilbury · 09/02/2012 16:13

I looks like we are going to miss the snow but I am supposed to be travelling from west sussex to Lancaster on Sunday afternoon , what do you think my chances are oybbk please ?

VivaLeBeaver · 09/02/2012 16:13

Lots more now and settling.

QED · 09/02/2012 16:20

Has definitely been snowing near York. Was a whirling swirly snowstorm type thing but is now lighter. Has settled on the roads and my car.

Now have dilemma as DC should be with their dad tonight (only in middle of York but is about 5 miles away). Should they go as would be more of a pain for them to get to school tomorrow (am sure it will be open). But would be nice to have evening to myself and not have to bounce out of bed in the morning. Would also help if XH would reply to phone calls and texts.

lubeybooby · 09/02/2012 16:21

Gloria I already am :o I can't believe I'm doing this again good grief. I really should turn my desk to face the window or I'm gonna crick my neck

lubeybooby · 09/02/2012 16:21

Not one tiny flake yet. I think it's not far off though.
