Battle of the cold and the mild

Which will win at the end of next week?
(very brief this morning - running behind a bit)
Cold weekend for all before it warms up again for a couple of days.
GFS then has mild winning.
ECMWF has cold winning (and boy does it look impressive on the charts)
UKMO doesnt quite stretch that far but I think that it is closer to ECMWF and is a bit of a blend solution.

back later :)

I don't think you should rule it out... just dont expect anything too 'deep and crisp and even'

Still the battle of the forecast models goes on!

A very crisp -4 here last night.
In a bid to help me out this morning, DH warmed up and de-iced my car ready for the school run. It was all going swimmingly until I got to DD1s school and realised that I'd driven off with DH's keys in the ignition! Oops and Blush I thought he'd be able to walk to work but then realised that he couldn't lock the front door as his housekey was on there as well. Even more oops and Blush!

On east midlands today they reckon on the weather the midlands are due some snow at the end of the week !

OhyouBadBadkitten · 16/01/2012 18:09

possibly laughalot. Bit early to call it at the moment.
Very oops Gloria!

I am naughty I love the snow !!!!

OhyouBadBadkitten · 17/01/2012 07:44

Very briefly this morning - looks like all the models are roughly coming together with coldish north westerlies looking most likely atm. However, there doesnt seem to be any blocking setting up (a high pressure that keeps the atlantic weather at bay) so I'm not convinced it will last.
still too early to talk about snow.

Met Office has this today:

There is considerable uncertainty regarding the weather during the last few days of January. The slightly more probable scenario at present is that conditions will remain similar to those described above. However there is also a significant risk of much colder weather becoming established right across the UK, with snow in places and widespread overnight frosts.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 17/01/2012 19:56

Which says it all really! Thanks for posting this.

Hmmmm, Met office and Net weather disagree on the max temp here, for the next few days by several degrees. The difference between snow and rain. Met office warmer.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 18/01/2012 15:04

going to have to rely on all your forecasts until I'm out ohlf hospital .

OhyouBadBadkitten · 18/01/2012 20:47

Thank you both. Being kept in. Boo hiss. What's the weather like ou there?

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 18/01/2012 20:58

Some weather warnings for most of Scotland (snow) and North West/NE England (ice), tomorrow and Friday.

Hope you're out and about soon, OYBBK. Think we're due rain sometime during the night that will move away south and then come back north again, just in time for the rush hour/school run (I swear the weather knows when it's school run time, just so that it chucks it down at that time. It knows I tell you!)

OhyouBadBadkitten · 18/01/2012 21:13

Thank you for the update Gloria will have to deputise you in my abscence. If any one wants to join me on my needy thread would be most grateful for company.

Sorry to hear about the bad night

GloriaSmud · 19/01/2012 12:52

Netweather might be going towards cold for next week, they're giving us a 40% and 58% chance of snow next Wednesday and Thursday, with a higher chance in the northern bits of the UK. The posters on met-monkey (and they're looking at the models), are going for cold as well. The Weather Channel are going the other way and saying rain.

The weather sure is keeping us on our toes!

Labradorlover · 19/01/2012 13:23

OYBBK, hope you are ok.
Proper rain here ( Edinburgh ), have dug out the umbrellas as it's calm enough to use them for once.
Think if I want snow I'm going to have to go up north as visit pals.....

OhyouBadBadkitten · 19/01/2012 13:28

With any luck I should be seeing outside within a couple of hours. Not sure about forecasting for a day or so, I don't think I could make sense of a Mr Men book at the moment!
