Yay! I've disabled my rocket radar so hopefully I'll get grunts in the balloons.

@HappyPunky - that's a good idea to turn the Rocket Radar off. Mine was on and I got Cliff, couldn't beat him despite trying three times! So I have turned mine off now!

I've battled team rocket twice so far!

@bellabelly it worked and I got a grunt! She told me to go home! Wtf I'm on my sofa and she was hovering over my house in a hot air balloon!

The next challenge is to purify two so if you rescue the shadow pokemon don't purify it straight away just in case.

I am super chuffed - as I had a really old task to beat Cliff and Arlo and they didn't seem to be around during lockdown. Did Cliff yesterday and just done Arlo at second attempt.
Off to do some research as my new task is now to beat Giovanni and I need to work out which of my pokemons I'll need.
(I found the list of pokemon that they can turn up with and spent a bit of time trying to work out which ones in my list would be good option depending on the moves they had - so I used fire reshiram on pineco, my rhyperior on steelix and icey cloyster on salamence, but it will depend on what your highest CP's are and what moves they have. Also I had options written down as it could be that they turn up with charizard, blastoise, scizor or dragonite apparently...)

Giovanni has a garchomp in his line up now as well, so you could try a mamoswine with ice moves.

Wow I just defeated Giovanni!!!
He came at me with Persian (used Hariyama) then Garchomp (used Weavile) and lastly Suicune (used Magnezone)
Took me 3 attempts and I kept thinking the balloon would disappear as his lineup was different to what I'd read on the net - wish I'd seen your post Baroness before the balloon!!!
Anyway I now have this baby and will need to earn some rare candy to purify it!!
And because Suicune is a legendary I completed another research and my prize was shiny Eevee!!! (Am thinking of keeping her to get a shiny Sylveon if they add that to the game soon!!)
Have had an awesome afternoon!!! All y special research tasks are now completed except I am stuck on doing 4 trades. I am going to have to be pushy and find a nearby player!!!

Loving all the balloon business as there's an old special research task I'd never got done which involves lots of team rocket stuff

Thanks for the tip about disabling the radar. I've had it ages and not been able to beat any leader!

I've just beaten arlo. Whoop whoop.

He came at me with pineco - gollem works well on him. Then Blastoise unsure about spelling, the big squirtle who my Linnea managed to defeat and then the big red Scyther and Flareon finally got him.

It took me ages to beat him. And I ran out of revives half way through. So my final lineup was more due to luck than skill.

@Cupidity that's very helpful. Arlo whooped my ass earlier!
