Tumpymummy that's not quite correct re opening gifts. It only takes one of you to open a gift to trigger the level up for both sides.
If you don't have the app open and you get told that it has been triggered (eg by WhatsApp msg if in a group or on here) then you can put an egg on as soon as you open the app but before the notification screen comes through and you'll still get the double xp.
You can only increase the friendship level by one notch each day, be that through opening a gift, raiding together, or trading. So if a friend has opened your gift then there's no point opening a gift from them unless you have 20 or less friends, as you would be better off opening a gift from someone you haven't had any other interaction with that day, so as to maximise your number of friendship increases. Hope that makes sense!

@MrsJamin Just wanted to say that I also got the Miltank task and actually completed it within an hour so it is possible! If you get it again, the trick I used is to be selective with the mons you try and catch (for this reason it helps massively to be in a high density spawn area where you have lots of choice, although luck admittedly plays a big part too). Basically, I first caught a Noctowl using basic balls which took 3 attempts - so 3x Great in a row - and then waited around for another mon with a huge hitbox for the capture circle - in this case, it was Solrock, so neither of them were especially rare spawns. Just stick to mons with big catch circles and use your lowest level balls because ironically you don't want to catch them easily - you want as many throws as you can on target, especially if it's easy to land a Great 👍

Hi. I’m a lurker and very occasional poster under various names but I’m going to do friends requests to a few people who’ve posted IDs to this thread for the purpose of the latest task. So far my only friends are teenagers, so it’ll be a bit less strange to have adults on the list as well.

Best recent achievement was catching my first ever Miltank on my way home from Sainsbury’s, just round the corner from home. Phone was on 1% when I spotted it so I frantically dragged out a cable and power stick so my phone didn’t conk out before I could catch it: I got it, and sprinted home to yell at the DC “Pokemon GO emergency. No questions, log in and follow me!”

So it seems strangely inevitable after all that to read on this thread that the 3 Great Balls In A Row Challenge will give me another Miltank. I’m glad I learned that because I was just about to give up and delete it because it’s such a PITA.

As mentioned above, 4 x Great Curveball is bordering on impossible if you just try it consecutively with whatever is around at the time. The Johto event actually is making it worse in some respects as the currently common spawns of Natu, Sunkern, Swinub etc. have absolutely tiny catch areas and are making it tough to find suitable target mons. The only way to do it is to be patient and resist the temptation to rush on more difficult throws. It will almost certainly mean missing out on some other catches though whilst you try and preserve your streak. I had to let a high CP Misdraevus pass me by, which hurt a bit

Ive got the 4x curveball task two-going to attempt in on some Mr Mime spawns today, they've usually got a big catch area.

What do you get from the 4 x great curveballs in a row? Is that the Milltank? If it is I can delete it as I don't need any more of them and I'm rubbish at curveballs. Took me a fair while to do the 3 regular in a row for the Spinda.

As an aside, does anyone know if Encounters benefit from weather boost like wild spawns? Thinking I maybe cashed in my Miltank reward too soon and should have waited for different weather lol

Dd and I caught a wild miltank each this morning. Was very lucky encounter as I'd accidentally put a lucky egg on 10 mins earlier, so at least I got extra new catch bonus.

SneakyGremlins The weather is irrelevant. As long as you walk your Eevee 10km and evolve it while its your buddy, it will turn into Espeon in the daytime and Umbreon at nighttime.

You could do this long before weather was even introduced into the game

Sorry to keep harping on, but I'm still trying to get hold of PoGoers Bebelle9, Malidice and Imnotstarting. Without giving their location away, I know that they are MNers due to their gifts not being local. Just to say that if you are out there (esp. Bebelle as we Ultra tomorrow) I will not be opening/sending Gifts before I hear from you in case I stiff you guys out of XP (not to mention that 300,000 XP total would pretty much take care of my next level up by the end of the weekend). I'll keep a lookout, unless any other kind MNers know who they are and can PM me? Muchos grassy-arse.

As an aside, it's times like this that I wish PoGo had at least a bare-bones notification or messaging system between Friends 😕
