Has everybody got Ex Raid passes for next Saturday? Hopefully it'll be another 100% catch rate...

Welcome to the new thread.

I can't see why others being able to get certain Pokémon should affect others.

It shouldn't, unless you've previously instigated an arcane system for access that has left a lot of people who very much wanted it out in the cold, more or less left them to figure out how to acquire it and built the premise upon supposedly only allowing availability through one very specific channel. To renege on that is to (as WhatToDo stated) shit on the loyalty and dedication of your committed userbase who jumped through all the previous hoops. No-one is suggesting that elitism is the way forward, or that a casual playstyle is less valid, but for those of us who do enjoy crunching the numbers, chasing IVs and Shinys and poring over stats on Gamepress, to suddenly upend a major game mechanic relating to perhaps the most coveted Pokémon in the game is an unfair kick in the bollocks.

Niantic have sold a lot of extra raid passes because of the EX Raid system. Lots of people invested an extra premium pass (bought with money or coins) to increase the odds of an invite. If Mewtwo is available to all then it's a big Fuck You to those people who did extra raids to increase the odds of a Mewtwo invite.

For the hardcore player, the eggs are the only new reward. (Even then, Taurus is the only Pokemon that has never been available in the UK) Double XP or double gym XP would be far more helpful than another Kanto event. The only way they can appease the hardcore now is to change the EX Raid Boss starting with this event and having some great daily research task rewards.

Gotta catch them all Wink
I have plenty Mewtwo already & personally I'm thrilled that other players less fortunate than me will get the chance to get it too!

Surely the only competitive element is who can fill their Pokédex quickest. The “hardcore” players got that chance first and were willing to invest time, energy and probably money in doing so. Hooray for them. There is now a window of opportunity to get MewTwo for people who can’t be part of a massive raid group, or can’t play in the way hardcore players do. How does that detract from those who filled their Pokédex first?

I need Tauros so pretty pleased about that as I have a few friends in the USA to get eggs from.

The thing is Niantic always do this kind of thing. Thinking of giving out regionals in the UK at events and that being mildly annoying and things like unown event etc. People were annoyed when legends were a research reward as well.
They are a business and this is what they do.
A lot of those I know that raid a lot already have a huge army of Mewtwo anyway and I'd heard the numbers at some ex raids were dwindling. So perhaps that's why they've had a rethink and perhaps exraid will change to something else.

MeetMeInMontauk has put it much better than I ever could. It’s nothing to do with elitism, having more than others etc. etc. and everything to do with the way Niantic have approached this and basically said a big fuck you to the dedicated and hardcore players.

The wording of the press releases suggests that location doesn't matter so you can end up hatching a Mr Mime from Japan. Plus it says that the regionals are joining the Alolan Pokemon which suggests that the pool is bigger than the regionals so you might hatch a Meowth.

TangelasVine Yeah, I have several Mewtwo, but I worked to get them. I spent a lot of time with my local raid group figuring out the ex raid systems and gyms, trial and error, making time to raid hard and repeatedly to trigger and so on. I have those Mewtwo because I put in the time and effort. Others don’t because they didn’t, and the reasons they didn’t are wholly irrelevant.

So perhaps that's why they've had a rethink and perhaps exraid will change to something else.

But what would be the point? It’s not an exclusive raid anymore, because everyone knows if you don’t put in the work and just wait a bit you’ll get it in the end anyway.

The key is supposed to be in the name: exclusive. If you offer it to everyone, it ceases to have ever been exclusive.

Are people going to even turn up to EX Raids anymore (expect ally during the event) ? A free premium raid pass to use at your leisure is going to be more appreciated than an EX Raid one which will inevitably be at an awkward time.

I have several Mewtwo too and went out in the dark, cold and rain. (Obviously totally my choice but we were told it was the only way to get hold of one)

Well yes but when Niantic say exclusive they mean at that point in time. It's annoying but it's how they've operated for the last few years. For example Kangastan was exclusive to Australia apart from when it was here in the UK. I've travelled a few places (ok I was going anyway) but spent holiday time seeking out the regionals then they introduced trading. I wouldn't assume that Niantic will keep things static - they never do.

During Moltres Day we hit a lot of EX Raid eligible gyms. I'm curious to know if this week's passes are still for Mewtwo or not. The only way that I can see EX Raids continuing to have any meaning is a chance for shiny Mewtwo or a new boss.

Really interesting points from everyone. I'm pleased about the opportunities I'll have to fill my dex but can understand people not being impressed.

I see the points about mewtwo and they're valid, but I do think it was horrendously naive of people to believe that Mewtwo would stay exclusive forever - especially with Niantic's track record.

I always figured it would get a wider release in the end, so my time and effort was spent for the fun of trying to figure it out with the friends I've made playing the game. We had some great successes and I have some great memories from it. That means more to me than the "exclusive" pokemon.

TangelasVine that was my first thought too! Almost as bad as getting a black rat for walking 7km!

The whole mewtwo thing I can agree with both sides, and to be fair there was only so long before the whole jumping through hoops to get a pass would last before we got bored of it. But I still don't see how it's going to help the solo players, as they will still presumably need to find a group in order to raid mewtwo?

The way niantic has occasionally made regionals available for a short time is the reason I haven't rushed into trading, as I don't see the point in wasting the dust. I figure that with a bit of patience I'll get them all in the end.

Kraggle · 11/09/2018 07:07

Niamtic have been doing some updating overnight. The Pokestop down the road from my house that my character very very occasionally runs over to without me having to move is now a gym!

I’m sitting here alternating between WiFi and 4g trying to get over there before work!

That's not how I interpreted the release - I understood it to mean that all eggs from friends accepted between those dates might contain one of the regionals, irrespective of where that friend is from and where the pokestop was which gave the gift. I could well be wrong though!!

PolkerrisBeach You’re not wrong - all Kanto regional Pokemon will be available and have a chance of hatching from any 7km Egg you receive after 9pm on the 13th, regardless of where the friend who sent you the egg is from.
