Will the snorlax appear now on the field research or still articuno?

anitagreen It’s gone 9pm, so it should be Snorlax Smile

derekthe1adyhamster · 01/07/2018 21:50

I'm from Brighton (pinkhebe) I do hope it was my eggs that hatched into pride muks!!
I have only hatched meowth and sandshrews.....

OrianaBanana · 01/07/2018 22:20

Oh hello pinkhebe! Your name keeps popping up (LizN63 here unoriginally)

derekthe1adyhamster · 02/07/2018 07:56

Hi LizN63!
As well as the eggs, I love the fact I have more great balls than normal ones and the massive 10k experience you get for a great friend. It's helping me on the way to level 38..... Halfway there now Grin
I've finished work for the summer so the poke stop spins have reduced, but I'm still finding excuses to go into Brighton everyday ( thank heavens for a yearly bus pass!)

MrsJamin · 02/07/2018 09:37

Got my first Snorlax through the field research, but only 76% and 1399 CP so I hope I get a better one next week.

soupforbrains · 02/07/2018 10:24

@derekthe1adyhamster YEs it was definitely your egg which gave me my PRIDE grimer/Muk. I luff him very much.

I doh't get a chance to open presents from everyone every day, as I have too many but I try to send as many as I can every day regardless.

anitagreen · 02/07/2018 11:07

I'm really happy with my snorlax I did the IV thing and it's 98% x

soupforbrains · 02/07/2018 11:21

@anitagreen That's awesome! get that Snorlax levelled up if you can and it will be a great Gym defender.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 02/07/2018 11:31

That's awesome! get that Snorlax levelled up if you can and it will be a great Gym defender.

I personally would recommend against powering up a Snorlax, even a 98% or 100% one.

Anyone can get through a Snorlax easily, even fully powered up, so it’s just not worth it and would be a waste of stardust.

Gym defense isn’t what it used to be. Gyms aren’t really a struggle to get through so it doesn’t matter so much what you put in there.

You also won’t be battling or attacking with a Snorlax, so it shouldn’t be powered up for those reasons either.

PickAChew · 02/07/2018 13:10

The best gym defender is a collection of golden raspberries.

The question about the small CP increase from seadra to kingdra: it's all to do with base stats, rather than IVs. Seadra's base stats, which are invisible in Pokémon go are here. pokemon.gameinfo.io/en/pokemon/117-seadra
If you click through to kingdra, the overall increase is small, particularly in terms of attack and defense. It's abilities have changed a little, in line with being a bit more dragon.

Other evolution item evolutions also seem a little disappointing, in co terms, on first sight, particularly scyther to scizor!

CP can be misleading, anyhow. A rock move tyrannitar is always better than a rock move golem with the same CP. CP is a number introduced with the game to take out the heavy stats that the less instant Pokémon games involve and make it superficially accessible to a wider audience.

Actually. While the actually defense of the gym isn't what it used to be, casual battlers DO tend to be put off trying to take a gym with a Snorlax, Blissey etc in it. AND you're also speaking from the position of being someone high level with a good range of well powered up attacking mons. Not "Anyone Can get through Snorlax easily" and equally not everyone does find that "Gyms aren't a struggle". There are still a lot of lower level players and also there are even more players who haven't levelled up a smart set of mons. So it is still worth it.

Plus personally I find that my gym battling notifications are on the slow side. Having a traditionally good strong defensive mon in the gym buys me more time to open it up and get berrying if it's a gym I want to keep.

MrsJamin · 02/07/2018 14:33

Besides putting pokemon to defend gyms, how else can you earn coins?

soupforbrains · 02/07/2018 14:41

@MrsJamin you can't earn them any other way you can only purchase them

TangelasVine · 02/07/2018 14:41

MrsJammin I also get coins from.Google Opinion surveys but in the game it's only gyms that give them out.

I love powering up a Snorlax too. It depends how much time I have. If I'm in a rush I'm not going to take on a fully powered Blissey / Snorlax etc gym.

soupforbrains · 02/07/2018 15:14

ah yes @TagelasVine is right. although you don't exactly earn PoGo coins through the surveys as much as you earn google store credit which you can then use to buy coins.

PickAChew · 02/07/2018 15:44

Yep, I do that, too.

bettytaghetti · 02/07/2018 15:50

Soup I think the person who tried to take out my Blissey yesterday shortly after I had put it in a gym, would agree with you! Every time it got down low I gave it a golden razz and eventually they gave up probably ran out of revives and it's still there almost 24 hours later. I know it's childish but it was fun! Felt like I was fighting back rather than passively leaving it in a gym.

What feels not so good is hatching a bloody alolan rattata! Seriously unimpressed Niantic! Angry

MrsJamin · 02/07/2018 16:39

What surveys are those?

SneakyGremlins · 02/07/2018 17:35

Thanks to whoever is in Glasgow for my first ever Grimer! Grin

TangelasVine · 02/07/2018 17:47

Google opinion rewards surveys. They stalk you a bit and ask things like how Asda was. Then you get money to spend in Google play so can buy pokecoins

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 02/07/2018 17:47

Sneaky - probably me!

Ohb0llocks · 02/07/2018 19:54

Can I join in! I've just downloaded to play with my 4 year old (more me than him to be fair) - were only level 6!! Any tips?

We've collected 36 Pokemon so far Grin

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 02/07/2018 20:06

Ohb0llocks The best tips for a new starter are:

• Don’t power anything up until you’re over Level 30 as you’re too low a level for it to be worth it and stardust is precious

• Don’t evolve a Pokemon unless you have enough candies for all three evolutions (for those Pokémon applicable)

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 02/07/2018 20:08

soupforbrains I still think powering up Snorlax, or any Pokemon simply for gym defense, is a massive waste of stardust and candy.

Put yourself in a couple of gyms and you don’t need to concern yourself with holding it for a long time.

TangelasVine · 02/07/2018 20:38

Welcome OhB0llocks in a way I'd love to start again!
One thing I didn't realise when I started playing was that I should catch everything for the points. I thought I should just catch ones I didn't have. The phrase "gotta catch em all" didn't register in my brain Grin
