SneakyGremlins Am ex-raid is an exclusive raid; you have to tick several of Niantic’s boxes to be invited to one, and even if you do hit all parameters you’re not guaranteed an invite. Not all gyms are ex-raid gyms, only select ones are.

Currently, the only ex-raid Pokemon is Mewtwo, and it’s the only way to obtain Mewtwo.

Like legendary Pokemon, you cannot do it alone; you need a lot of people. However, that’s never a problem as a certain number of people have to hit the ex-raid gym to even have a chance at triggering passes.

If you’re not in a raid group, your best chance is to turn up at the start time and wait until everyone shows up to do the raid (then ask to join their group!).

Sometimes we schedule our ex-Raids for half way through the time depending on who can make it, so if you turn up and there’s nobody there that’s probably what’s happened.

No ex raid eligible gyms near me. Was away last weekend and triggered my very fussy ex raid pass!

To go i'll have to cancel a client and spend 3 nights away from home. Travel alone will be 3 figures.

SnapAndFart If it’s your only chance of an ex-raid, I’d recommend going.

It’s extremely doubtful Mewtwo will ever be available in any means other than an ex-raid, considering it’s the most powerful Pokémon and the most sought after.

Also they’re ex-raids, not Mewtwo raids, so Mewtwo won’t be available in them forever.

@SnapAndFart depends if you already have a mewtwo or not. If not, I would go and if you already have one (or more) I wouldn’t bother.

No, I really don't have any closer ex raid gyms! Or at least if there are, this is the easiest and quickest one to get to.

It might be possible to do it with only one night away, or maybe two, but that would seriously increase my travel costs.

Fussy should say first, so no, I don't have a mewtwo. I'll have time to fully look at my travel options tonight, I'll make the decision then.

Someone else locally got an ex raid pass this time round, and they are definitely going and travelling further than I'll have to. We wouldn't be doing this if we had other options!

I'm painting my bedroom, instead. Sleeping in the front room is getting old.

We have five ex-raid gyms in our (relatively small) town, as well as the beta ex-raid gym (which is an ex ex-raid gym as it only gave passes out once during the beta phase back in October last year).

If you're in it for the long term, Snap, may I suggest you get into Ingress, then request a portal or two in your local park, where it may end up a PoGo gym eligible for an EX raid? Two, in case one gets clock-blocked, is a good plan.

Ingress is a bloody awesome game, I will probably go back to it if I ever finish my Dex :p

I didn't bother heading to Ireland when the wave of bodged ones came out selecting a load of random gyms that people had interacted with last summer!

@SnapAndFart that trip sounds a bit bonkers, to be honest! I'd never go that far out of my way to get pokemon especially pay to go somewhere special! It is JUST a game!
