A thread for anyone doing this who might need any help or tips 😊 I’m already vegan but happy to offer suggestions or support if anyone wants it!

Oh and finally- biscoff biscuits are vegan!!! So they have replaced my chocolate digestive habit!

useitorlose · 12/01/2025 03:27

If it's biscuits you're after, hobnobs, jammie dodgers and Waitrose bourbons are all favourites in my house.

Gymbunny2025 · 12/01/2025 07:58

Hob nobs are vegan 🤯

Glad it’s going so well! Don’t want to be the cause of restarting your habit but Tesco dark chocolate digestives are vegan!

I'm loving my Facebook memories at the moment. I did veganuary about 10 years ago and it's all along the lines of "I couldn't do this full time" šŸ˜†

Husband is in town currently, have sent him home via Lidl to see what goodies he can find there...

Peskydahlias · 12/01/2025 12:25

It's dangerous for me that I now know hobknobs are vegan! Just been having a look at the accidentally vegan page which has a few bits on the list I wasn't aware of.

I love that! And here you are now! Most vegans at some point have said ā€œI could never be veganā€

I think doing veganuary (I've done it for a few years but it never seems to stick) is a great gateway to becoming vegan. It's still just eggs that I'm missing. But I'm sure if I live without them long enough that feeling will pass. I feel healthy and not reaching for processed non vegan snacks is really good for me. Hopefully I'll crack it this year

I felt the same about eggs, it lasted about a year. Now the thought of them makes me feel queasy!

Just popping on to share a few meals we eat most weeks...

Hugh FW's Red Cabbage Biryani (put a dollop of Oatly soar cream on it too)

Ella's Sri Lankan curry

And my absolute favourite...

Take some extra firm tofu, slice it and cover it in pesto... Air fry. Roast red peppers in the oven. Cook some ciabatta bread. Put tofu and peppers in ciabatta and add hummus, tapinade and anything you fancy. Serve with chips. DELICIOUS.

Sunshineandrainbow · 14/01/2025 23:47

I love Aldi hobnob rip off. They are called Oaties.

Oooh this sounds lovely and the kind of simple recipe I could manage.

Seriously give it a try, we have it about once a week in this house šŸ˜‹

Gymbunny2025 · 17/01/2025 07:28

I failed yesterday! Don't normally take lunch to work but did a lunchtime run and when I got back I was starving so had a cup of tea with cows milk and millionaire shortbread that was offered.

Need to think of some strategies for work/visiting friends I think as find these are the most tricky.

It's not a pass or fail thing, so please don't think of it as having failed!

I always take snacks... I always have a carton of UHT oat milk and a box of trek flapjacks in the car for such emergencies.

As an aside, aldi currently have a veeeeeery good millionaires shortbread type thing at the moment

Gymbunny2025 · 17/01/2025 19:41

That's all excellent advice I'll take on board thanks šŸ™ especially the shortbread bit!

PigInADuvet · 20/01/2025 19:49

How are the Veganuary-ers getting on?

Good. Took tea with oat milk in a flask to work plus hob nobs today! New habit but so easy

It happens when you are in the transitional phase. Those are the tricky scenarios, I think being prepared becomes a habit over time, I tend to always have snacks in my bag. It has also been a blessing not to eat all the cake and sweets brought into work too as I don’t need that on my waistline šŸ˜‚

My meals lately have been sweet and sour vegetables and seitan with noodles, minced tatties and I’ve got a vegan haggis ready meal in the fridge since burns night is coming up! DD has a really bad cold and has been extra fussy even with stuff she normally likes.

Ooooh vegan haggis sounds šŸ˜‹
