A thread for anyone doing this who might need any help or tips 😊 I’m already vegan but happy to offer suggestions or support if anyone wants it!

@Gymbunny2025 great news on deciding on veganism, well done. I'm about 18 months in and it's great, you won't regret it. My young kids were like yours at first but grew to accept my decision over time 🤣

Don't you find if you have a big breakfast you get upset tummy at the gym? However weekend lunches will be my protein power houses!

The vegan lamingtons have turned out amazingly well!! This is the recipe in case anyone else fancies trying

You assume I've been going to the gym 🫣

I really ought to...

Never heard of a Lamington before. They look interesting!

I'm wondering if you've felt any change in energy levels or performance or anything with a vegan diet @Gymbunny2025?

Gymbunny2025 · 01/02/2025 19:46

@PigInADuvet no I've not felt any different either way. But I know I don't have the healthiest diet and one thing I really want to do is cook a bit more, eat more protein and fruit/veg and stop snacking on biscuits instead of eating proper meals! I think doing that would definitely help me at the gym and my energy levels too 😊

Veganise Me is a really interesting documentary on YouTube. A man has blood tests done, goes vegan for 9 months then the blood tests done again to compare. The results are fascinating

My 1 year old absolutely loves a bit of fried or scrambled tofu. Had some with gluten free cause cous, wilted spinach, pine nuts & vegan feta. Good drizzle of olive oil & herbs too

PigInADuvet · 01/02/2025 20:31

Not seen that one @bakewellbride, which streaming service is it on? Game Changers on Netflix was interesting. Certainly opened my husbands eyes a bit (particularly the bits about sexual performance šŸ˜‚)

I just had bloods done as part of annual monitoring of a longterm condition. My ferritin, B12 and vit D are higher than they've ever been!

I actually think I'm going to do it- go vegan! Although eldest has been begging me to start being 'normal' again all day šŸ™„

Yay! Sounds like you’ve done fantastically this veganuary, glad you liked the scrambled tofu.

Well done that's great!! Try and mix with vegan friends though a local group too for get together etc. don't forget you need to talk but B12 - you can take fortified mild etc and use nutritional yeast but think it's pretty accepted the diet lacks B12. Take a high dose as it's poorly absorbed.

despairnow · 02/02/2025 09:55

Take vit B12

Apologies my phone tends to think it knows better than me what's in my mind and I don't know how to edit on Mn !

despairnow · 02/02/2025 20:37

Got a frozen cottage pie base out the freezer and made mash for the top with stir fry veg and soy sauce

I appreciate this thread may no longer be active in Feb. But I've noticed in the last week or so that my ankles are ever so slightly puffy to me (nobody else though- yet!) so sock marks become very pronounced. I've never had this before and after a bit of googling I'm now worried it's due to not enough protein 😳. Has anyone else experienced this?! Could it be an age thing (40) and just a coincidence?

Ive been vegan for nearly 20 years and I'm on my 3rd pregnancy, and my ankles have always been like little sparrows legs compared to how fat the rest of me gets šŸ˜‚

However, puffiness can be related to excess salt? Maybe check that out?

PigInADuvet · 07/02/2025 20:35

I doubt it would be a protein thing after what, 6 weeks?

Seems like a good excuse to sit with your feet up though!
