Sorry @ppeatfruit! I'm going to be sporadic at best for the next few weeks, as I've got a mad few days at work with the first part of my dental implant treatment on Thursday evening. But I'll check in when I can 😊
I confess I'd forgotten about the lemon recommendation from you. The green smoothie that I've done recently was pretty much following a bbc good food recipe for a kale smoothie as I had kale in the veg box to use. There's lime juice in it. Does that count? 😆

Yesterday was

L: baked beans on toast (with reggae sauce and nooch)
D: potato and feta bake with Bombay carrot salad (made by DD2)
S: hot cross bun with plant butter, crackers - some with mushroom pate and some with oatly cream cheese

KobaniDaughters · 28/03/2022 14:46

Sorry here too - had wine on Thursday night and have just eaten and drunk crap since then as it was DH’s birthday over the weekend.

Also just super overwhelmed with all the move stuff but will try to remember to pop in

Mummyoply · 28/03/2022 23:00

Today:
B - red grapefruit and coffee
Snack- mango
L - cous cous with black Olives and kimchi
Snack - raspberries and strawberries
D - barenaked spaghetti, crispy tofu, spring greens and spinach with garlic and ginger and a side of kimchi
Pudding - nuts and 80% dark chocolate square

Nouveaunew · 28/03/2022 23:28

I’m
Ashamed of the amount I ate today. It’s about three times the amount most people post here … this thread has opened my eyes to how much I’m overeating & how I need to do something about it

KobaniDaughters · 29/03/2022 03:59

L: spaghetti squash, vegan feta, sun dried tomatoes, fresh basil
S: cashews, tomato soup
D: miso tofu, kabocha squash braised in dashi, edamame and an apple

Mummyoply · 29/03/2022 20:00

@Nouveaunew we all have days when we eat more or sometimes less, it's nothing to feel ashamed about Smile. It really depends on what you are eating, it seems to me that most people on this thread avoid processed food or have only a little bit of it and food that isn't processed makes you feel fuller sooner and for longer Smile

Nouveaunew · 29/03/2022 20:57

@Mummyoply

Thank you. I appreciate it. I’m trying to cut out the processed food but not quite there yet! Still lots of boxes and cartons about! Great to know that unprocessed food makes you feel fuller sooner — I never thought of that. Flowers

KobaniDaughters · 30/03/2022 06:04

We’re a super unjudgemental group @Nouveaunew

B: 2 crumpets and a slice of bread and marmite
L: tofu and kimchi tacos
S: pistachio butter, tofu and nooch
D: globe artichoke with tahini and chilli dip, picked on DS leftover pasta

Mummyoply · 30/03/2022 09:17

@Nouveaunew I got into a rut of relying on low calorie processed food ( breakfast bars/Quorn etc) and was always hungry. Now I make meals from scratch with fresh ingredients and use beans, quinoa, cous cous etc and I've swapped low calorie choc bars for unsalted nuts and 80% dark choc and I am full all day, have more energy which means I can run for longer and I eat less quantity of food but better quality SmileBut you know what, it's whatever works for youGrin

ppeatfruit · 30/03/2022 10:14

Oh don't be sorry it's just great to have you all back (i can't talk can I? with my off line times Grin )

Are you moving back to Blighty Kobani ? Good luck with it all wherever you;re going i don't envy you!

Good luck to you too PartTime with your dental problems.. Lime juice has Vit. C but I've noticed I need to chop up (or grate ) the whole fruit, including the pith and skin to get the full benefit !

We're the nicest thread on MN (in my unbiased opinion of course Grin ) Nouveau

Mummypoly Ref. "Processed foods' It's easier for me now I'm retired but I used to always have a 'cooking day' at the weekend; I made and froze whole rice ,that really does fill you up, soups, curries etc. to defrost (either by leaving it out in the morning in the fridge or
by micro) when I came back from work.

I 'm not only trying to be vegan but I'm also fussy! So I find I can eat very few shop bought snacks or meals! Nuts are brilliant though aren't they?

B. Fruit and nut plate.
L. HM parsley pesto risotto. Dark Choc.
Sn 2 slices spelt bread with pnut butter and yeast spread.

Mummyoply · 30/03/2022 10:30

@ppeatfruit yes I agree time can be a factor and processed foods are by their nature quick and easy. I have had to train myself into new routines, remembering to soak the beans the night before I want to batch cook or even just to cook them for one meal! It's been a learning curve but I love the way I feel now I'm no longer sluggish or bloated and really this is the only thing I've changed.

I'm lucky that I have a substantial herb garden (that's has miraculously survived the winter this year) and I find I use it all the time now I'm cooking from scratch. Whereas when I used a lot of processed foods I rarely used it and had to prune it for the compost bin! What a waste that was Shock

ppeatfruit · 30/03/2022 10:47

A waste for your body, though of course the compost's goodness gets back to you eventually !) but not for the garden!

I love herbs too ,I grow the herbs that are easy in this garden. We also are lucky because we have a fab organic grower down our road so parsley, fresh green garlic etc. (see the above pesto) etc. are easily and cheaply obtained.

@ppeatfruit how lovely to have access to organic herbs on your doorstep. A few years ago I went on holiday and walking through a lovely little village they had a community help yourself herb garden, such a lovely idea....

I grow peppermint and camomile in my herb garden and this year I'm determined to make my own tea, I'm just waiting for them both to come back, as they are 2 of only 3 that died back over winter but both have shoots so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it won't be long. Then I can stop buying herbal tea and make my own. On that note - I'd be grateful for any tips for making homemade herbal tea if anyone does this? It will be a new venture for me.......

Mummyoply · 30/03/2022 22:25

B - Grapefruit and coffee
S - boiled egg (not vegan, sorry)
L - Romaine Heart, cous cous, black Olives and Kimchi
S - watermelon and strawberries
D - barenaked rice with artichoke hearts, jackfruit, spring greens and spinach - all stir fried with a rice wine and lime dressing and a side of kimchi
Pudding - unsalted nuts and 80% choc square

Any ideas for a protein rice boiled egg substitute? I need to be able to eat it cold at work......

ppeatfruit · 31/03/2022 09:42

Mummy I make herbal tea in a pot I love green\white tea too, not with any milk. I don't go as far as drying my herbs to do so, though I could of course. The problem is I'm back and forwards between Fr. and Eng. so I can't rely on my herbs (or cuttings from the garden) being looked after correctly, or not thrown out, by dh!

For an egg substitute you could marinade, chopped small, tofu (if you like soya) in a lemon, soya sauce\dried herbs sauce dressing first then take it with you. Nice with rice and or salad.

B. O/n soaked Prune\ chia seeds, in prune juice then apple\lemon and grated fresh ginger.
L. Parsley pesto risotto with steamed fennel. Dark choc.
Sn. Leftover HM rice pudding S. H/M Minestrone slice of spelt bread

L. Minestrone soup with spelt toast, Choc.
S. sn. Ryvita, spreads. Tofu yoghurt with maple syrup, and grated nutmeg.

Mummyoply · 01/04/2022 14:09

@ppeatfruit thank you, do you just pop the fresh herb leaves in the pot to make the tea or do you crush them a bit first?

Yes I've thought about Tofu but I eat a lot of it in evening meals, I don't really mind this as I do like Tofu but wondered about lack of variety in my diet or perhaps looking for something with a different nutrient make up? But maybe marinated tofu is the simple option, I like it and why make life more complicated hey 😀

ppeatfruit · 01/04/2022 14:24

It depends on the herb, with mint I have enough to put it in teapot and leave to soak in nearly boiling filtered water, you know, I squash it about a bit. Sometimes if I'm feeling rich I'll put in a tbag as well! Then use a tea strainer.

I buy loose white tea leaves , you can get the Tbags too, that's lovely! It has a much less astringent flavour than green tea, which can be too strong for me.

Ref. protein I reckon that we worry too much about it. There's so much in organic fresh fruit and veg. and as long as you get a good B12\omega 3 supplement with linseeds and nuts then IME it's fine.

I make a fab beetroot houmous with white beans and tahini. I take it when travelling with a box of ryvitas or whatever. Just another idea for yr lunches.

I always take a 'snackpack' and or an apple of my own with walnuts, pecans, dates, sultanas or whatever you like. That's great because you need to chew them thus they fill you up healthily!

Hello I've just found this thread, there's some great idea on here. I'm very much in a rut of eating the same things all the time.
@ppeatfruit would you mind sharing the beetroot hummus recipe please? It sounds great.

KobaniDaughters · 02/04/2022 16:36

@ppeatfruit no, our house goes on the market this week and we move to the U.K. in July

You inspired me so I made my own white bean and beetroot hummus as I had some golden beeetroot languishing at the bottom of the fridge and a load of herbs that needed eating. So tin of white beans, steamed golden beetroot and added garlic with that, then blended with tahini, lemon juice, parsley and mint (and salt and pepper)….I loved it and bonus nobody else in the family did so it’s all for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
