Iron in holiday let?

mondaytosunday · 19/08/2026 18:35

I’ve run a holiday let and this is our second year. A guest arriving tomorrow has asked if there’s an iron. There isn’t - would this be considered a normal thing to provide? I’ve had 20 plus individual groups and no one has asked before. There is a washer/dryer there. I’d have to ask the changeover woman to go buy one in the morning (and board) if it’s something I should provide as I don’t live near it.

I would expect one.

Sherararara · 19/08/2026 18:39

Yes it’s a nice to have, for those 1in 20 occurrences when someone wants one.
Our last holiday let provided one,
along with hair dryer and washing machine. All welcome additions.
They also had fast WiFi and SmartTVs in each room with logged in accounts for Disney, Netflix and Amazon. Was v impressed.

Nofeckingway · 19/08/2026 18:40

They may be going to an event nearby .

Franxi · 19/08/2026 18:41

A lot of people pick a rental home for events. I’ve stayed in loads before a wedding and whilst I don’t iron anything, I do make the exception for a wedding! I think it would be a good idea to get one and you can list it on the amenities. I’m in a rental at the moment and was pleasantly surprised to find one here!

HoldMyWine · 19/08/2026 18:41

I would put one in and one of those mini boards. They might be going to a wedding or something.

I wouldn't even think of providing one. I don't own one myself and is not something I would ever consider an essential item.

mondaytosunday · 19/08/2026 18:42

No hair dryer but it does have a washer dryer. I don’t even own an iron myself! I need to know if people think it’s essential rather than just a nice to have thing before I pay someone to go buy one!

No hairdryer?! Now that would be something I would definitely expect and wouldn’t be impressed of there wasn’t one.

Surely even if you have to pay someone to get it it’s hardly a significant expense. Not something I would even ruminate on.

mtobrokeme · 19/08/2026 18:53

In an holiday let yes, I would expect one! More so than a washer/dryer! I like my clothes ironed and after unpacking sometimes they’re not!

thornbury · 19/08/2026 18:54

I would expect one, especially where there's a washing machine.

ReallyTryingToAsk · 19/08/2026 18:55

A recently refurbed hotel in London, large chain, now has a hand held steamer in each room. No need for an ironing board.

blossomsnow · 19/08/2026 18:56

I'd expect one. We often use holiday lets.when we are going to something like a wedding or party.

This. And if you're away from home you've probably packed nice outfits for meal out or day trip or whatever occasion, and if they've been packed in a suitcase they'll need an iron.

Aligirlbear · 19/08/2026 19:02

Yes I would expect an iron and ironing board

ConBatulations · 19/08/2026 19:02

I wouldn't expect one and think it could be a fire risk if left on? Haven't noticed one in most places we have stayed either.

There is usually a hairdryer though.

Strawberrydelight78 · 19/08/2026 19:03

I would expect one and a hairdryer as well. I do have a small travel one but it’s not very good. Hairdryers and straighteners take up a lot of room in the case. I forgot both at the last apartment we stayed in. Luckily they had both there.

mondaytosunday · 19/08/2026 19:04

Ok thanks for the input! A steamer might be a tricky ask but I’ll have her get something.

I think it would depend where you live, if you are super rural & not near any likely event locations I wouldn't worry about one.

Ifi you do get one, personally I would pay out slightly more for one of the ones that automatically turns off after a certain amount of time though, less fire risk then.

7238SM · 19/08/2026 19:11

Considering a basic range iron and full sized board would only be £20 then yes, I would provide it. Guests might have an event or just a shirt that needs pressing.

We rented out our property briefly whilst working abroad and a hairdryer was classed by the management company as an essential item. Again, for £10, I'd surprised you don't provide one!

I've personally only needed and iron once when attending a wedding and don't blow dry my hair, but many people do.

I wont book anywhere that doesnt have one. Abroad and at home. My questions for airbnb's abroad are to confirm the kettle (needed for tea and not all europeans see the need for kettles) and iron and board. We stayed somewhere in Spain once where she had an iron and no board!! She said no one had ever raised it as an issue!!

At home, always confirm the iron and a full sized board after being given those stupid little mini boards which are useless.

We are snappy dressers when on holiday and I want to be crisply turned out.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 19/08/2026 19:15

I wouldn't expect one or provide one.

No hair dryer either?

Why?

I must have a hair dryer.

Was that an auto correct and you meant no tumble dryer?
Because I really do expect a hair dryer.

ApolloandDaphne · 19/08/2026 19:21

I would expect an iron, ironing board and hairdryer in any holiday rental. The hairdryer would be an absolute must.
