Iron in holiday let?

mondaytosunday · 19/08/2026 18:35

I’ve run a holiday let and this is our second year. A guest arriving tomorrow has asked if there’s an iron. There isn’t - would this be considered a normal thing to provide? I’ve had 20 plus individual groups and no one has asked before. There is a washer/dryer there. I’d have to ask the changeover woman to go buy one in the morning (and board) if it’s something I should provide as I don’t live near it.

It's fine to say to the guest no, it's not provided. I'm sure they'll cope.
I have an iron somewhere but don't own an ironing board. I wouldn't expect either in a holiday let. They're not essentials.

HangryBrickShark · 19/08/2026 19:23

Yes whenever and whenever we have holidayed in the UK (caravan/hotel/b&b/holiday cottage) there has always been an iron. I can't bear crumpled clothes. It is an essential as is an ironing board. We always take a tower fan with us as well and I take my hairdryer and hot curl too.

I would definitely expect an iron but not a hairdryer. I have a lot of thick hair and prefer
to use my own. Any hotel
hairdryer feels just like someone is just blowing on to my hair.

No hair dryer but it does have a washer dryer. I don’t even own an iron myself! I need to know if people think it’s essential rather than just a nice to have thing before I pay someone to go buy one!

Are guests expected to dry their hair in a washer dryer then? 🤣

likelysuspect · 19/08/2026 19:28

I cant get my head around providing a washing machine but no iron

What do people do with clothing they've just washed and hung up and then want to wear it, but its all creased?

Fine for underwear and towels, or t shirts or polyester. But linen and cotton or things you're wearing out for dinner etc?

TheChosenTwo · 19/08/2026 19:33

We’d not use one but I’d be surprised if there wasn’t one somewhere in the property. not that I’d go looking for one!
We don’t really iron at home (exceptions being wedding/funeral/interviews) certainly not going to be something we take up during our specific leisure time 😂
If we are going to a wedding we will stay at the hotel or the nearest hotel and there will always be one there if we did need to use one but we tend to iron at home and hang in the car so clothes are fine when we get to the destination.

I would expect one.

So would I and a hairdryer.

RaraRachael · 19/08/2026 19:46

Yes I'd expect one. When thd kids were little I always ended up doing a wash when we were away.
At one place I asked if there was an iron and board I could use. The owner looked at me as if I had 2 heads then said, "Why on earth would I have those" and walked off laughing.

I'd definitely expect a hairdryer too.

Beachbeach · 19/08/2026 19:48

I would expect an iron, ironing board and hair dryer as absolute basics. Most of the time I’m staying at a holiday cottage for a party wedding or family event

UncharteredWaters · 19/08/2026 19:49

You will have burnt carpet or a burnt bed. No matter how obvious the ironing board is. I’d make it an on request item.

HeddaGarbled · 19/08/2026 19:50

I think every holiday let I’ve stayed in has had an iron and ironing board.

Savvysix1984 · 19/08/2026 19:59

I would expect and iron and a hair dryer. Every let I’ve been to have had both.

KrazyKatty · 19/08/2026 20:05

Surely an iron, ironing board and a hairdryer are basic essentials?

How do you press your clothes properly without an iron?

I’d be really annoyed if they weren’t provided as standard.

EleanorMc67 · 19/08/2026 20:05

I dislike ironing & try to avoid it as much as possible at home!!

But I would absolutely expect an iron & ironing board at any AirBnB/holiday rental etc. As other posters have said, we're often staying there because we have a birthday/wedding/christening etc to attend. And it's a good idea to get one that automatically switches off after a certain time when left unused, for safety reasons. It's actually quite odd IMO to supply a washer/dryer but no iron & ironing board!!!

I would also absolutely expect a hairdryer. But I do usually take my own, as I have wavy hair & like to use a diffuser. There are occasions I've forgotten though.

I'm really surprised by people not even owning an iron!! I hang a lot of stuff to dry, & can avoid ironing some clothes that way - but not cotton or linen.

Are all your clothes synthetic fabrics? Or do you have a steamer instead? Or do you send everything off to be dry-cleaned/ironed ...??

Just put the clothes on. I don't own an iron!

WonderingWanda · 19/08/2026 20:11

Yes I would say it's a normal thing for a holiday let to provide.

Ioafed · 19/08/2026 20:13

Another one who'd expect an iron (or a garment steamer would do) and a hairdryer as standard unless it was somewhere advertised as super teeny-tiny. I don't think I'm particularly high maintenance.

WWomble · 19/08/2026 20:16

Would definitely expect an iron and ironing board. I’m travelling so it’s fair to expect luggage and therefore clothes that maybe creased and in need of an iron.

panomara · 19/08/2026 20:16

This is why I stay in good hotels. They either have everything you need in the room, or can get it for you in a few minutes.

On the offchance that I was staying in s/c yes I would need an iron just in case, and definitely a hairdryer.

FitAt50 · 19/08/2026 20:17

WTF - Who are these people who dont have an iron?? Are they super rich and just have everything dry cleaned? Most hotels provide irons and I would 100% expect there to be one in a holiday let. Seriously, no iron????????????

onmylastnerveseriously · 19/08/2026 20:17

No one should be ironing ever, least of all on holiday.

I haven’t ironed since the 90s. It’s such a strange use of time. Just hang the stuff up…

LlynTegid · 19/08/2026 20:18

It was a question, you answered it. No need to provide one, just ensure that it is very clear what is provided.

Agreed, no one should be ironing on hols, but someone might just NEED to, and not everyone in s/c is on holiday either.

littlemousebigcheese · 19/08/2026 20:19

No iron but I’d want a hairdryer!!!
