Iron in holiday let?

mondaytosunday · 19/08/2026 18:35

I’ve run a holiday let and this is our second year. A guest arriving tomorrow has asked if there’s an iron. There isn’t - would this be considered a normal thing to provide? I’ve had 20 plus individual groups and no one has asked before. There is a washer/dryer there. I’d have to ask the changeover woman to go buy one in the morning (and board) if it’s something I should provide as I don’t live near it.

I never iron anything and don’t even have an iron at home!

W3e · 19/08/2026 20:31

I would definitely want an iron available.

WTF - Who are these people who dont have an iron?? Are they super rich and just have everything dry cleaned? Most hotels provide irons and I would 100% expect there to be one in a holiday let. Seriously, no iron????????????

No, I just don't iron anything. On holiday or otherwise.

Thestealer · 19/08/2026 20:39

I rarely iron but my DH does iron his clothes so yes I'd expect an iron to be available. I'd also assume there would be a hair dryer.

mondaytosunday · 19/08/2026 20:49

Ha well what a response! None of the other guests have mentioned the lack of iron or hair dryer. I don’t use either myself. In fact I didn’t realise but the toaster broke and three loads of guests stayed and they didn’t mention it either! It was only when a friend stayed and couldn’t use it.
Anyway a steamer and hair dryer has been provided.

I wouldn't necessarily mention a lack of either but would be mildly irritated if I'd needed one or the other. I would imagine that's the case with at least some previous guests.

No one should be ironing ever, least of all on holiday.

I will never wear clothes that haven’t been ironed!

PurpleThistle7 · 19/08/2026 21:05

Have her get a hairdryer too. I can’t remember the last time there wasn’t one. And we stay pretty budget.

BoredZelda · 19/08/2026 21:07

No hairdryer or iron? That’s losing a couple of stars from me.

pinkspeakers · 19/08/2026 21:20

I'd expect one yes. And I provide one (plus a table top ironing board) in my airbnb. It's not something I'd use often, but just sometimes it would be really inconvenient not to have one and it doesn't cost much or take up much space.

Askandyforcompo · 19/08/2026 21:22

I own holiday lets and yes it's a given that there should be an iron and ironing board. And a hairdryer.

I would expect an iron, ironing board and hairdryer in any holiday rental. The hairdryer would be an absolute must.

This.

Knittedfairies2 · 19/08/2026 21:26

We've stayed in many holiday lets over the years; most, if not all, had an iron, ironing board and hairdryer.

GalaDinner · 19/08/2026 22:04

As it happens I am currently on holiday in quite a nice place and needed an iron only this morning for a linen shirt that had got creased in transit. Weirdly there is a washing machine, an ironing board but no iron. A bit inconvenient to say the least and I was surprised. Luckily I wasn't going anywhere important and I did a bit of camping ironing, ie sat on the worse bits while I was getting ready.

But yes, I would expect one. This thread is subject to the common MN affliction of people apparently incapable of grasping that other people may live different lives to their own.

You must have extremely wrinkly clothes?

2026onwardsandup · 19/08/2026 23:44

I would defintely expect an iron , ironing board and a hairdryer . The last holiday cottage I stayed in had several hairdryers, an ironing board but no iron ! I actually wanted to use it although don’t iron much at home . I had a pair of linen trousers that needed ironed . There was no tumble dryer so couldn’t do that to take out some of the creases .

Not the end of the world for me , but others could have booked a holiday let for a wedding , funeral , interview , work trip where they needed to be smart .

tillyandmilly · 19/08/2026 23:46

Definitely an iron - how can you not own an iron? What about shirts - linen clothing?

Maddy70 · Yesterday 00:10

It's a usual thing to have tbh

Is there a decent-sized mirror above the bathroom sink? It really surprises me when there isn't one, & that's been the case on a few occasions in our holiday accommodation!

pinkishtongue · Yesterday 06:25

I often stay in air bnb for events/parties and definitely use an iron, it’s a standard requirement imo.

I don't wear shirts or linen clothing.

Growlybear83 · Yesterday 07:30

I think an iron is absolutely essential. I don’t think I own any clothing that doesn't need ironing and always used to take a travel iron with us when we went on holiday abroad, but have never been to a UK holiday let where one wasn’t available. I would be very irritated if an iron wasn't provided and would have to waste my time and money to go out to buy one.

I don’t own or use a hairdryer but would still expect one to be provided.

MickyMoonshine · Yesterday 08:03

Yep an iron and a hairdryer are essential. I’m surprised you’ve not had guests mention it before tbh.
I’d be really annoyed to discover there was no iron.

Unless you live head to foot in polyester (and even that needs to be ironed sometimes) your clothes will need ironing. Its ok not to. Im not going to iron my work things this morning but thats because I dont care what I look like at work. The top is very creased despite being hung up after washing, its not linen.

Jeans need ironing even though they're nice and thick, they still look far better after an iron

Also the shape of things is much better after an iron.

Johnogroats · Yesterday 08:08

We have an iron in our holiday house but only because my dad bought one about 20 years ago. It’s pristine as I don’t think it’s been used since! We are in the alps and it’s very casual…. No need for ironing anything! Personally I wouldn’t look for an iron, but yes to a washing machine.
