Iron in holiday let?

mondaytosunday · 19/08/2026 18:35

I’ve run a holiday let and this is our second year. A guest arriving tomorrow has asked if there’s an iron. There isn’t - would this be considered a normal thing to provide? I’ve had 20 plus individual groups and no one has asked before. There is a washer/dryer there. I’d have to ask the changeover woman to go buy one in the morning (and board) if it’s something I should provide as I don’t live near it.

WTF - Who are these people who dont have an iron?? Are they super rich and just have everything dry cleaned? Most hotels provide irons and I would 100% expect there to be one in a holiday let. Seriously, no iron????????????

I buy clothes that either don’t need ironing (Lycra or other technical fabrics) or you can get away without ironing if you hang them up to dry carefully. I don’t wear linen. I don’t care about having my sheets and t-towels ironed.

Ok thanks for the input! A steamer might be a tricky ask but I’ll have her get something.

Hotels that we have stayed at that have steamers in the room say they have them because there is less chance of them being left on or damaging surfaces.

Lentilcakes · Yesterday 08:19

Yes I would. I’m in one now and there’s an iron and board (and it’s a small flat). We stayed in one pre DC graduation and used the iron in the morning.

summersolsticesoon · Yesterday 08:20

It’s an essential
important to provide an ironing board and an iron you might find a Joseph Joseph ironing board and iron holder helpful too.

bocketyaulbag · Yesterday 08:22

I would expect one too. Clothes get creased traveling and occasionally I like to iron them

YourJoyousDenimExpert · Yesterday 08:49

I am reflecting that in nearly 30 years of holiday rentals, where some have had an iron and some didn’t - I have never done any ironing on holiday!!
I guess my husband may have ironed a shirt once….I now have a vision of hundred of hardly used irons and boards all over the country!
But to answer your question- yes - I would expect one (although why when I am clearly not going to use it would be a good challenge!) 😊

Dear all, can I jump on the thread to ask if you find steamers efficient (compared to an iron)? Should I get one myself I wonder, to get a couple of creases out quickly? Hate unfolding the ironing board haha

I bought a steam generating iron to replace my usual steam iron.

I have found I use it more as a steamer with clothes hanging, than I use it as an iron on a board.

(sadly I do like to iron my sheets with it though - on an extra large board, with wheels…😆)

I’m not sure how powerful a hand held steamer is, but can certainly see the way forward for hotels and holiday lets.

mamaduckbone · Yesterday 10:46

Yes I would expect one (and a hair dryer!)

Teffe · Yesterday 10:49

Just because none of the previous 20 individuals didn’t ask for an iron doesn’t mean that they weren’t irked by the lack of one - same with the lack of a hairdryer.

I don’t iron or iron on holiday because our cleaner irons everything and I just pack very carefully.

I would absolutely expect a hairdryer.

You can provide an iron and ironing board for less than £30 from Argos.

I have a handheld steamer and take it on holiday with me. As long as you can hang things up or lie them flat on a bed it's fine. Heats up in seconds. I try to avoid ironing - steaming is much easier and quicker as long as there's a plug socket.

Livpool · Yesterday 12:31

I’d expect a hairdryer and an iron. More so than a washing machine.

croisette · Yesterday 12:32

I would expect all these things but equally if you didn’t say it had one on the listing they can’t complain!

I'm currently researching makes of handheld steamers, as I hate ironing (& ironing boards!). Hanging clothes up to dry doesn't work for everything - sadly 😶!!

I don't iron sheets etc, just some of my clothes when necessary. But I do loathe & resent having to do it ... so those clothes that really do need ironed don't get worn enough, as they're mostly languishing crumpled somewhere ...

Unless you live head to foot in polyester (and even that needs to be ironed sometimes) your clothes will need ironing. Its ok not to. Im not going to iron my work things this morning but thats because I dont care what I look like at work. The top is very creased despite being hung up after washing, its not linen.

Jeans need ironing even though they're nice and thick, they still look far better after an iron

Also the shape of things is much better after an iron.

Depends how you define 'need'. What do you think will happen if I don't iron anything?

TheBayHorse · Yesterday 16:16

I run a holiday let and we have an iron, ironing board and hairdryer along with washing machine and dryer. The iron was very cheap from Asda and I suspect it's rarely used as we're in a location people come to for hill walking and don't dress smartly but it's no bother to provide one in case someone needs it.

In general, if a guest mentions something we haven't got that's cheap and easy to provide, then we get it. I personally don't iron or need a hairdryer but I understand others do.

You'll look a mess

Like I did today at work, but like I say, I dont care because Im at work.

However when Im out and about I like to look good

I dont care what others do. Its my personal preference which is why I want access to an Iron. I dont care if you look a mess.

Brodo · Yesterday 19:58

I would expect one and would need one, my clothes are all linen or cotton and get creased in cases and I hate going around in unironed clothes, but that's me!

Ilovemyshed · Yesterday 20:43

I would expect an iron/ board and a hairdryer as a minimum

PlainJaneSuperbrainthe2nd · Today 06:33

Most of my summer clothing is cotton or linen and I find that, despite my best packing efforts, even my t shirts often need a once over after I’ve travelled somewhere. So I say yes to an iron - I always need one. I must be doing something wrong as there are a lot of people who say they never iron but bar a couple of dresses which look better without I find it essential.

Morepositivemum · Today 06:35

Think of what you have in a hotel op- an iron and travel hairdryer at least!! I’d add bottle opener, wine decorker thingy too if you don’t have one

CeeceeBloomingdale · Today 06:39

I'd expect one, it's a basic, normal item in a let.
