Hotel expecting me to share a bed with one of my sons

MollyBunny154 · 08/02/2023 00:53

I have had to travel nearly 3 hours away from home to a specialist Childrens hospital as my youngest son is 11 and is being admitted very early in morning for day for tests.
My oldest son is 19 and has come with us as I don't like traveling on my own.

I booked to stay at premier Inn for 2 nights , paid for a family room, was assured it would have a double bed sofa bed and pull out bed so 3 beds.

Turned up and checked in tonight went to room and found they had given me a twin room with just 2 beds.

Went back to reception as thought they had perhaps given me wrong key. They said that was correct key and room and there was nothing they could do as hotel is fully booked. I was told I would have to share a bed with one of my son's

It was too late to find another hotel so reluctantly went back to room.

There is no way any one could share a bed with my youngest son, he moves around in his bed constantly all night.

I don't think it would be appropriate to share a bed with my oldest son.

I've had to give my sons the beds and I'm having to sleep on floor, using a coat as a blanket as don't even have any spare bedding.

Am I wrong think it's not right to have to share a bed with one of my son's.

What would you have done in this situation.
Am I right to be annoyed.

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

I can only imagine sharing a bed with my 40 year old so . We'd be lying stiffly on the farthest reach of the bed because of the inappropriateness of it all and then He'd literally go mad from my snoring 😂

It baffles me how parents won't sleep in the same bed as their own flesh and blood. It's one bloody night. I went on holiday with my parents abroad and the hotel had messed up the booking, I (26y/o) ended up having to share a room with my parents for 2 nights. Suck it up and be an adult about it and then make sure you get a refund in the morning.

Have you read the thread? There are only beds for 2 people.

I regularly share a bed with my teenage dd when we travel. It isn't an issue at all, but I would not be able to share a single bed with her. Frankly, I wouldn't be able to share a single bed with my husband either.

The issue here is lack of bedspace, not who can share with who.

LittleBearPad · 08/02/2023 01:01

Well I wouldn’t be sleeping in the floor. Get in the bloody bed and stop being ridiculous. In the morning ask for a discount.

I was just thinking that.
It's your son not a stranger!
Obviously not ideal but why make it into something it's not?

Cathaidh · 08/02/2023 08:03

Actually getting so irritated by the amount of people who did not properly read what you had written or why you had every right to be annoyed! Hope you get your money back.

Would you share a single bed with your dad? Because that's what you're suggesting the 19-year-old man to do with his mother.

OP was expected to share a SINGLE bed, with her 19 year old. Not a double bed, a single bed.

I'm physically comfortable with my adult DDs, but still wouldn't be comfortable intertwining to fit in a single bed, even if it was physically possible.

Intertwining with a young adult son? In a single bed? Nope.

MichelleScarn · 08/02/2023 07:58

Did I say she was an idiot @GiltEdges? Just my experience of P.I was never 2 single beds in a twin or family room as per their website.

Hope op gets things sorted for tonight!

Generally the king bed option is just two singles plus a topper. It gives the hotel flexibility as the room can either be a king or a twin depending on the bookings taken. If you always travel as a single or couple you’ll never have needed to ask the hotel to dress it as two singles.

GiraffeLaSophie · 08/02/2023 08:05

I think your title and opening post are a bit misleading, I initially thought they’d put you in a standard 3 person family room with a double bed and a pull out bed. The issue is not really that they’ve suggested you share a bed with one of your sons (I’m sure plenty of people would share a bed with an 11 year old, or put the 2 boys in together and while I understand why you can’t, they are not to know that) but that they have given you a room with two single beds and as the hotel is full they can’t move you. They can’t expect two adults to happily share a single bed, regardless of their sex or relationship.

Absolutely complain and ask for a full refund.

WilsonMilson · 08/02/2023 08:07

MockneyReject · 08/02/2023 07:46

But there is no double bed, and no sofa bed. A single bed is not standard provision for 2 adults, is it?
Why, do you think, a family of 3 need to pretend to be a family of 4, in order to get the family room they booked and paid for?

OP, you will get a refund.

Sorry, too early in the morning. I didn’t realise it was 2 single beds only. I thought it was a double and a single and she had expected 3 beds not 2.

So, it’s not a family room at all then? If so then you are entitled to a refund as that’s not what you’ve booked. I’ve never had this issue with Premier Inn, it’s always been one double and a single.

Octopusmittens · 08/02/2023 08:09

There’s absolutely nothing ‘inappropriate’ in sharing a bed with your son, stop being a martyr.

Cloud9isnowclosed · 08/02/2023 08:10

How are people reading (from OPs very first post)

Turned up and checked in tonight went to room and found they had given me a twin room with just 2 beds.

as a double and a pull out🤦🏻‍♀️

rookiemere · 08/02/2023 08:11

I wouldn't share a single bed with DH never mind anyone else.

Hope the hospital appointments go well and stand your ground when you get back- change of room for tonight and full refund for last night are what you should be getting.

Dguu6u · 08/02/2023 08:12

You should have demanded to be relocated in another hotel. I can't believe people just suck up and take this. You didn't even ask for a pile of extra duvets and pillows, which they would obviously have.

LittleBearPad · 08/02/2023 08:12

BadNomad · 08/02/2023 08:03

Yes I would, if there was no other bed.

Top and Tail - why the horror. Presumably they all have pjs.

The fact that the beds were only singles was a drip feed mid thread.

grumpycow1 · 08/02/2023 08:13

If it was a double and a single I’d say to share with 19 year old but two single beds?? That’s really bad when you booked a family room. Hope you get a refund, make sure you kick up a fuse this morning!

Bouledeneige · 08/02/2023 08:15

I've often shared beds with my kids DS and DD (in late teens) as it's rare to get a room with 3 single beds - most have a double and single - and I couldn't afford 3 rooms. Or we had two double rooms. Went round the west coast of the US like that for 3 weeks and on other holidays. We took turns to get the bed on their own. I don't think it was a big deal or the end of the world.

rookiemere · 08/02/2023 08:15

It was fairly obvious from opening post it was two single beds, as that's what a twin room is in 90% of British hotels.

newposters · 08/02/2023 08:15

I booked a Premier Inn last week and if booking online it asks how many adults/children are staying in the room. Did you fill this bit in correctly?

Although it's too late now, if this happens again you can ask reception for extra duvets/pillows and can create a barrier between thrashing/sleepless son on the bed.

At the very least, if you've booked it correctly and they've messed it up, ask for a refund. Hope your son's tests go well!

But OP didn't have a double and a single. She had two singles. For three people. So your experience is totally irrelevant.

So many thinking that this doesn’t tie in with any of the images of family or twin rooms on the PI website…

maryofthevirginkind · 08/02/2023 08:22

Premier inn guarantee a good nights sleep. Just ask for a refund. They should give you one no questions asked. Disgusting of them though.
