Hotel expecting me to share a bed with one of my sons

MollyBunny154 · 08/02/2023 00:53

I have had to travel nearly 3 hours away from home to a specialist Childrens hospital as my youngest son is 11 and is being admitted very early in morning for day for tests.
My oldest son is 19 and has come with us as I don't like traveling on my own.

I booked to stay at premier Inn for 2 nights , paid for a family room, was assured it would have a double bed sofa bed and pull out bed so 3 beds.

Turned up and checked in tonight went to room and found they had given me a twin room with just 2 beds.

Went back to reception as thought they had perhaps given me wrong key. They said that was correct key and room and there was nothing they could do as hotel is fully booked. I was told I would have to share a bed with one of my son's

It was too late to find another hotel so reluctantly went back to room.

There is no way any one could share a bed with my youngest son, he moves around in his bed constantly all night.

I don't think it would be appropriate to share a bed with my oldest son.

I've had to give my sons the beds and I'm having to sleep on floor, using a coat as a blanket as don't even have any spare bedding.

Am I wrong think it's not right to have to share a bed with one of my son's.

What would you have done in this situation.
Am I right to be annoyed.

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

I hope you get a refund.

As a parent with 3 young children it’s interesting that they over crowded the room (they normally cite fire risk - though how they know how many are in each room I do not know - for example a couple could be in a room and one returns early the other remains in a club or restaurant. Or someone could end up hooking up in a nightclub. Or one person gets called away for whatever reason. On work events I’ve regularly crawled into bed at 5am).

My twins share a bed so I end up paying for two rooms and using one! I’d prefer to squeeze 5 into one room and pay for one.

So many thinking that this doesn’t tie in with any of the images of family or twin rooms on the PI website…

Well of course it doesn't tie in with what it says about family rooms on the PI website. That is precisely the OP's problem!

But your eldest son is 19!!!!!! I would have gone to another hotel and returned in the morning. Bloody hell.

You could at least read Op's replies. Both sons are autistic and we have no idea about care needs. Also have the sense to realise that not everyone can afford to just go off to another hotel for a night.

I've stayed in tons of PI rooms. They do have twin rooms and they also have family rooms. I don't understand why you think the OP's story is implausible.

However, if you think she is trolling, you should report it to MNHQ rather than trying (rather ineffectively) to expose it on the thread.

What do you mean, is there a double bed? OP has already said there are only two singles, how do you think she might have possibly overlooked a double bed in the room as well?

For those posters who are determined to doubt the room configuration, I have stayed in a Premier Inn twin room with just 2 single beds - not what I was expecting but not really an issue as travelling alone for work. Premier Inns FAQ's mentions this possibility.

I hope all goes well at the hospital today OP.

Just realised I forgot to say room has 2 single beds not a double and sofa.

It's a twin room with 2 single beds

3 people, 2 single beds.
That's not acceptbale whatever age the kids are.
You can't share a single bed even with a toddler.

I'm sorry but I don't think you kicked up enough of a stink!

I would have stood in reception and kept going until the found and brought a pull out bed to the room, and then insisted on a refund.
You booked a family room and they have given you a twin.

Kick up a stink this morning.

You haven't read the small print.

Ultraninja · 08/02/2023 08:32

Can't people read?
Op can't put a barrier of pillows between her and her son to share. Firstly, the hotel would only come up with 1 pillow. Second, it's a single bed.
Op and/or her sons can't share, for reasons already explained and... they are single beds.
Op booked a family room. What that involved was very clear on her booking and it wasn't provided. She booked a room with sleeping for 3, and they provided a room with sleeping for 2.
Why give Op a hard time FFS?

"Family rooms
Our spacious family rooms accommodate up to two adults plus two kids aged under 16. Most of our family rooms feature a super-comfy double or kingsize* bed, plus a single sofa bed and a pull-out bed."

Did you definitely book it as a family room? Just wondering as one of your sons is over the stated age range.

Well he would count as the other adult so it makes no difference.

Oh for the love of god! Well if she’s so dim that as a grown adult she can’t tell the difference between a single bed and double, she’s not going to be able to answer your question, is she? Maybe you can add some pictures to ‘educate’ OP on the difference between a single and a double bed, just to be sure she’s not a complete moron?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/02/2023 08:34

If the criteria for a family room are children under 16, then the OP didn’t qualify anyway. Personally I’d have thought two adults in a king size bed, as it nearly always* is in a PI, wouldn’t be too difficult, even if one does wriggle a lot.

*But I was surprised shortly before Christmas, when trying to book a PI, that the one dh wanted (for location) could not promise a KS bed - it could be a standard double - I’d thought that was one of their main selling points.
There was no way I was sharing a standard double with dh - I don’t sleep well anyway - so we had to find another.

I can't believe MN deleted my post because it said 'don't be stupid.' What the hell is wrong with people 😆

onepieceoflollipop · 08/02/2023 08:35

Dear OP

I have read the whole thread and firstly I would like to wish your youngest son well at his appointment today.

I hope you managed a little bit of rest and hopefully some hot coffee this morning. Also that the situation is resolved properly for tonight.

I’m sure that the trip was already stressful juggling the additional needs of both sons, you could well have done without the bed situation.

I see you had the refund that you were totally entitled to - however this does not mean you were in a better position in terms of sleep last night.

Wishing you a much better night tonight

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER her son is under 16

Lovemusic33 · 08/02/2023 08:37

We had this happen at a travel lodge (Birmingham) but luckily they gave us another room. We use travel lodge and premier inn a lot and we know the quality and service isn’t that great so we never know what we are going to get. Both my teens have ASD too and I often have to share with my 16 year old, I rarely get any sleep in these hotels but they are what they are (cheap and not great quality). I would complain and get some of your money back. A tip for the future….we always take an air bed with us now and a sleeping bag, just incase there’s not enough space for the 3 of us. Dd1 has got used to sleeping on one and will sleep anywhere.

AllOfThemWitches · 08/02/2023 08:38

It baffles me how parents won't sleep in the same bed as their own flesh and blood.

Yep, my sons also autistic nd fairly regularly gets in with me. I like it, it's the only time he wants to be that near me 🤣

Where are you seeing that Op has been refunded? I can't see that on any of her posts. 😕

This is the worst thread I have ever read for posters not RTFT and posting irrelevant and unhelpful comments.

Good luck with your son's appointment today @MollyBunny154 and you should absolutely demand (and receive) a refund.

Very very poor service by Premiere Inn!!!!

SillySausage81 · 08/02/2023 08:40

Some of these answers are ridiculously wishy-washy.

You booked 3 beds and they gave you 2. Had you paid in advance? Demand a refund. You slept on the bloody floor ffs!
