Hotel expecting me to share a bed with one of my sons

MollyBunny154 · 08/02/2023 00:53

I have had to travel nearly 3 hours away from home to a specialist Childrens hospital as my youngest son is 11 and is being admitted very early in morning for day for tests.
My oldest son is 19 and has come with us as I don't like traveling on my own.

I booked to stay at premier Inn for 2 nights , paid for a family room, was assured it would have a double bed sofa bed and pull out bed so 3 beds.

Turned up and checked in tonight went to room and found they had given me a twin room with just 2 beds.

Went back to reception as thought they had perhaps given me wrong key. They said that was correct key and room and there was nothing they could do as hotel is fully booked. I was told I would have to share a bed with one of my son's

It was too late to find another hotel so reluctantly went back to room.

There is no way any one could share a bed with my youngest son, he moves around in his bed constantly all night.

I don't think it would be appropriate to share a bed with my oldest son.

I've had to give my sons the beds and I'm having to sleep on floor, using a coat as a blanket as don't even have any spare bedding.

Am I wrong think it's not right to have to share a bed with one of my son's.

What would you have done in this situation.
Am I right to be annoyed.

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

For future reference OP, with Prem Inn you actually have to book 1 adult and 2 children (even though 19yr old is an adult) in order to get 3 beds

I know you said youngest is being admitted to hospital early this morning for tests. But if you have time, and you're already up and about, go down to reception NOW and demand to see the duty manager. Cause an almighty ruckus in front of the early breakfasters if you have to. That is appalling.

Why is it appalling?

rookiemere · 08/02/2023 06:49

Hope you got some sleep OP.

This is their description of a family room www.premierinn.com/gb/en/why/family.html so if you selected family room with 3 people and didn't get either of these options, then they have given you the wrong room. At worst you should have been able to share a double with one of your DS , which is a lot different to a single.

Benjispruce4 · 08/02/2023 06:51

If you can prove it they’ll refund you. 19 year old should have slept on the floor and let his mother have the bed!!!!!🙄

LittleBearPad · 08/02/2023 06:53

Does your booking actually specify 2 adults and a child?

Ah just seen your reasons re son needing bed.
Im surprised by Premier Inn and have stayed in lots of their family rooms and never experienced this . I think I’d have got them to find me a room in another hotel. No way would I sleep on the floor.

Just realised I forgot to say room has 2 single beds not a double and sofa.

It's a twin room with 2 single beds

You didn’t forget to say it OP. People just didn’t read it properly.

You booked a family room, they have given you a twin room and ruined your night. You need an acknowledgment of this and some money back.

"Family rooms
Our spacious family rooms accommodate up to two adults plus two kids aged under 16. Most of our family rooms feature a super-comfy double or kingsize* bed, plus a single sofa bed and a pull-out bed."

Did you definitely book it as a family room? Just wondering as one of your sons is over the stated age range.

If this is from their website it's worth quoting back to them. It doesn't say the two adults have to be a couple so you fit the bill - especially since it turns out to be a twin room anyway.

I'd get on twitter and tweet them about it. I don't believe they have no more rooms.

TeenDivided · 08/02/2023 07:02

Just to say, please be polite to the receptionist.
My DD worked for this company for a while and she was thrown in at the deep end. If the person doing the room allocations screwed up, and the hotel is full, the actual receptionist on duty will have very little she can do about it.

MollyBunny154 · 08/02/2023 07:05

Didn't get much sleep. I will say it once more I booked a Family room not a twin. My booking confirmation clearly states Family room in writing. Room has 2 single beds. I think it's one of them where it can be 2 single beds or you can push them together to make a double.

I booked for 3 people 2 Adults and 1 Child. Again booking confirmation clearly shows this. I rang up and spoke to someone at time of booking to explain the situation. They told me to book it as 2 adults and 1 child. They said they would put a note on booking and that we would definitely get 3 beds.

I'm not stupid I booked room how premier Inn told me to book it.

Any way heading to hospital now. Need to concentrate on my son.

Hope everything goes well with your son today and that you get the hotel sorted for a better night sleep tonight.

Xol · 08/02/2023 07:07

Tell them that if they can't give you a family room tomorrow night you expect them to arrange a room in another hotel that can, with them paying the difference.

Absolutely disgusting, hope you get something sorted for your second night, speak to Manager, somethings gone wrong somewhere, 3 people, no matter their age, should not be expected to stay in a room with 2 single beds. More worrying that they couldn’t find spare bedding for you.

Dragonsandcats · 08/02/2023 07:17

Hope your son gets on ok today and you can sort better accommodation tonight.

PuttingDownRoots · 08/02/2023 07:19

I think they overbooked the hotel. (PI, not you!) So you got what was left.

Hope your appointments go well today.

SlaveToTheVibe · 08/02/2023 07:21

But your eldest son is 19!!!!!! I would have gone to another hotel and returned in the morning. Bloody hell.

Rainbowsparkles29 · 08/02/2023 07:21

I'm really confused. So you're expected to sleep 3 people in a room with 2 single beds? That's not enough space even if you're willing to share with your son surely? I'm confused how they think they can getnaway with that. Something really doesn't add up. I don't see how any hotel can see this as acceptable...

SlaveToTheVibe · 08/02/2023 07:21

I mean yea it’s awful but no need to sleeping on the floor

GoodChat · 08/02/2023 07:22

But your eldest son is 19!!!!!! I would have gone to another hotel and returned in the morning. Bloody hell.

He's autistic to the point he'd have a meltdown on the floor.
That doesn't sound like a solution either.

AndNowIKnowWhatHappened · 08/02/2023 07:23

Did you by get B your money back?
I hope everything goes well today 💐

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 08/02/2023 07:29

That's appalling on the part of the hotel. Not good enough to just tell you to make do.

WilsonMilson · 08/02/2023 07:30

In Premier in, if there are 2 adults (your eldest is an adult) and will have been assumed to be a partner, not a child, then it’s usually a double bed and a sofa bed.

If you wanted another bed, you’d have had to state there were 4 people travelling, ie 2 of them children.

It’s not really Premier Inn’s fault. Family rooms are meant for parents and children, not parents and adult children, unless they are happy to share a bed.

Sleeping on the floor is insanity, martyr like behaviour. Have you any idea how dirty a Premier Inn floor will be? Just sleep beside your eldest, it’s only one night and you could sleep on top of the covers or something.

Alldrelaxzz · 08/02/2023 07:31

I would demand a refund. So annoying.my 18 year old has ASD and no way would be share a bed with me the nt 16 year old would. So totally understand. Hope you got some sleep
