Hotel expecting me to share a bed with one of my sons

MollyBunny154 · 08/02/2023 00:53

I have had to travel nearly 3 hours away from home to a specialist Childrens hospital as my youngest son is 11 and is being admitted very early in morning for day for tests.
My oldest son is 19 and has come with us as I don't like traveling on my own.

I booked to stay at premier Inn for 2 nights , paid for a family room, was assured it would have a double bed sofa bed and pull out bed so 3 beds.

Turned up and checked in tonight went to room and found they had given me a twin room with just 2 beds.

Went back to reception as thought they had perhaps given me wrong key. They said that was correct key and room and there was nothing they could do as hotel is fully booked. I was told I would have to share a bed with one of my son's

It was too late to find another hotel so reluctantly went back to room.

There is no way any one could share a bed with my youngest son, he moves around in his bed constantly all night.

I don't think it would be appropriate to share a bed with my oldest son.

I've had to give my sons the beds and I'm having to sleep on floor, using a coat as a blanket as don't even have any spare bedding.

Am I wrong think it's not right to have to share a bed with one of my son's.

What would you have done in this situation.
Am I right to be annoyed.

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

I mean yea it’s awful but no need to sleeping on the floor

Well there's two single beds and 3 people. 2 have autism and can't go on the floor. One moves so much that nobody can share a bed with him. So how is there no need to sleep on the floor?
Op this is awful of the hotel and the last thing you needed before your appointment. Hold out for a full refund.
Good luck with the appointment today.

I think people are confused because you’ve written that PI are expecting you to share a bed with your son and they’re not, because they’re both singles- they’re expecting one person to sleep on the floor, surely?

In Premier in, if there are 2 adults (your eldest is an adult) and will have been assumed to be a partner, not a child, then it’s usually a double bed and a sofa bed.

If you wanted another bed, you’d have had to state there were 4 people travelling, ie 2 of them children.

It’s not really Premier Inn’s fault. Family rooms are meant for parents and children, not parents and adult children, unless they are happy to share a bed.

Sleeping on the floor is insanity, martyr like behaviour. Have you any idea how dirty a Premier Inn floor will be? Just sleep beside your eldest, it’s only one night and you could sleep on top of the covers or something.

Why are people not reading the thread.

It is 2 single beds not a single and a double. There is only enough space for 2 people so the make-up of the OP's party makes no difference.

The OP booked a room for 3 people. She was given a room for 2 people. It is absolutely the hotel's fault for not honouring the booking.

"Family rooms
Our spacious family rooms accommodate up to two adults plus two kids aged under 16. Most of our family rooms feature a super-comfy double or kingsize* bed, plus a single sofa bed and a pull-out bed."

Did you definitely book it as a family room? Just wondering as one of your sons is over the stated age range.

The adult son counts as the 2nd adult surely?

I’ve often stayed in premier inn family rooms and never had an issue- I think you are entitled to a refund.

sorrynotathome · 08/02/2023 07:35

Did you get a refund OP?

Skyeheather · 08/02/2023 07:37

Did you book for two adults and one child? You should have got either a double bed and a sofa bed made up for the child or twin beds plus the sofa bed.

Or did you try to save money by missing off one person to avoid having to pay for two rooms? I don't understand how you only got two beds if you booked for three bodies?!

I've never seen a twin room in Premier Inn (not saying they don't exist). No spare bedding is bloody ridiculous. Yes they should refund you. I hope tonight goes better.

Read, then comment.

You have to wonder what kind of person, on reading that a mother is struggling the night before her child's hospital appointment, gleefully whizzes down to the bottom of a thread without bothering to read any of what the OP has posted, just so they can stick the boot in with a mean comment... 🙄

But there is no double bed, and no sofa bed. A single bed is not standard provision for 2 adults, is it?
Why, do you think, a family of 3 need to pretend to be a family of 4, in order to get the family room they booked and paid for?

OP, you will get a refund.

BaroldNedmunds · 08/02/2023 07:47

Good luck for your son’s appointment today op.
When you get back to the hotel, don’t accept anything other than a full refund for last night and an appropriate room for tonight. If they say they’re fully booked, get them to find you an equivalent room in a nearby hotel. They have to pay any transport or excess.

It's right there in the OP: I was told I would have to share a bed with one of my son's

Contact Lenny Henry immediately.

LeilaGetTheHose · 08/02/2023 07:56

It baffles me how parents won't sleep in the same bed as their own flesh and blood. It's one bloody night. I went on holiday with my parents abroad and the hotel had messed up the booking, I (26y/o) ended up having to share a room with my parents for 2 nights. Suck it up and be an adult about it and then make sure you get a refund in the morning.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 08/02/2023 07:56

Honestly, I think I'd be wanting more than a refund. The OP's trip sounds stressful enough as it is, without having to deal with this on top. I think they should refund the booking and offer her a free night somewhere as a good will gesture!

OP, I assume that you have proof of your booking tonight. Just stand at reception using the broken record technique and explain that you're not moving until they find you a room that honours your booking. If they have to make arrangements with anther hotel to accommodate you, then that's what they should do.

MumMRM · 08/02/2023 07:57

I would have just got the two boys to sleep in the double bed and I would have slept in the single. Otherwise I would have called for more bedding and slept in the bath! :-)

What double?

For fucks sake.

MichelleScarn · 08/02/2023 07:58

GiltEdges · 08/02/2023 02:47

Pretty sure OP isn’t a complete idiot, it’s not easy to mistake a queen size bed for a single 🙄

Did I say she was an idiot @GiltEdges? Just my experience of P.I was never 2 single beds in a twin or family room as per their website.

Hope op gets things sorted for tonight!

Sorry, just realised there was only two beds, ignore my first post :-)

there are 2 twin beds
the staff said there was no more bedding
it is all there in the OP

You'd sleep with your child in a single bed? A child who isn't a baby/toddler?

Natsku · 08/02/2023 08:00

How can so many people be unable to comprehend the bed situation in OP's posts??

Make sure you get a refund OP and hope they either find the right room for you tonight or full refund and a hotel room elsewhere. Hope your son's hospital tests go ok as well, this hotel stress is the last thing you need on top of medical worries.

Blogswife · 08/02/2023 08:00

I would be making the most god awful scene at reception right now ! You are at the very least entitled to a full refund .
The no spare bedding is bullsh@t . Insist on a couple of duvets and pillows & blankets . I’d also tag them in twitter and Facebook posts including pictures of your bed for the night .
