Charged as a plus one?

I’ve been invited as a plus one to support a friend at an event. The whole plan was sharing their room, in the same bed. I don’t think they are being charged for the room as it’s a whole venue hire. She’s just asked me to pay, I thought I was a guest but actually I’m paying to be there. The travel, gift and new outfit are other costs I’m incurring. The amount is equivalent to staying in a hotel for two nights but Im pretty sure she’s pocketing the money which feels like shes making money from me. Is she a cf? Should I try to pay the host directly? Should I write it off as I’ll be fed and have a shared bed. It’s not the cost really it’s the feeling I’m being taken from.

Either say you are more comfortable paying the host directly or you can pull out of your feel she’s ripping you off.

Like others have said hosts do book the whole hotel or villa etc and then charge everyone X per room or people book their hotel rooms at a special rate.

It’s fine to ask what this rate is, one clear no nonsense message will sort it. If her reply is wishy washy then go down the I don’t feel comfortable paying for something without clearly seeing the price of it route.

I wouldn't want to have to pay AND share a bed. In actual fact I think I'd rather not go. Are you in a position to back out or if you really want to go, get a proper twin?

She had previously told me she was being gifted the room. I’ve now been told by her to pay this figure that the hosts are suddenly charging, but directly to her. I understood I was crashing in with her and was going to gift the equivalent cost of my food etc to the hosts.

Hopefully, you will very soon just let her know that you've decided it isn't something you want to do.
Give her time to find someone else and more importantly, give you back your peace. I cannot imagine wanting to share a room/bed with someone I don't trust/like any longer.

Just having to share a bed would have made me decline tbh
