In terms of housing. I live in the pretty part of a big Scottish city and you can get a 80 square meter 2 bed flat for that here.

4 bed detached or a larger 3 bed semi. Both with 2 bathrooms and decent gardens. Greater Manchester/East Lancs border.

littlemousebigcheese · 27/07/2026 21:35

Maybe a nice shed

Borka · 27/07/2026 21:37

2 bed flat in a nice part of South London

Arran2024 · 27/07/2026 21:40

Nothing. Garages, that's all. My daughter and her boyfriend had to move out of the area to find a flat.

EwwSprouts · 27/07/2026 21:48

Brand new 3 bed 2 bath townhouse or 4 bed 1970's semi.

badboss2020 · 28/07/2026 11:38

centre of very expensive south coast city. At the moment you can get a 2 bed flat. Nothing amazing but decent. A couple of years ago it would have been a one bed for that money.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/07/2026 21:09

South east also covers a lot

averythinline · 28/07/2026 21:21

Nothing.. west London

MidnightMeltdown · 28/07/2026 21:30

Modest 3 bed semi, North

Solaire18381 · 28/07/2026 21:31

A three bed semi, quite a nice one. Just north of the midlands.

Brightbluesomething · 28/07/2026 21:42

3 double bed townhouse with 2 bathrooms, cloakroom, kitchen diner and conservatory in my very lovely and pretty affluent village with good schools nearby. Oh and money to spare after stamp duty.
You could get a detached 3 bed as well but the 3rd bedroom is a single. Although the gardens are a bit bigger.
Up north, obviously.

Rocknrollstar · 28/07/2026 21:45

Probably a garage. I live in north London.

petitpasta · 28/07/2026 22:51

Within 5 miles of where I live in the Midlands £300k could buy a 4 bed semi (although it backs on to the west coast main line so you need to like trains!), a 3 bed detached in need of work further out of town or a 2 bed flat in the centre of the city.

The cheapest house (that isn't shared ownership or a retirement flat) is a studio in a nice part of the city for £85k.

MrsMontyD · 28/07/2026 23:10

A 2 bed detached bungalow or a 3/4 bed semi detached house, largish “sought after village” East Midlands.

SomersetCider · 28/07/2026 23:48

Three-bedroom 3 bath terraced cottage, but it’s bigger than you’d imagine a terraced cottage to be because it’s double fronted. No driveway though, if you had a driveway then the house would be a lot smaller for the same money. Relatively affordable rural town in Somerset.

Nothing.. west London

its interesting as I would have though that, but if I look up Notting Hill, Chiswick or Kensington in rightmove for example, it does bring up flats for under 300

Well of course it does, the idea you can buy 'nothing' but a garage is nonsense. People love to big this up

GreenFootstool · 29/07/2026 08:26

3 bed terrace with a garden and garage. Cornwall.

ilikeeggs · 29/07/2026 08:37

A decent 3 bed semi in my part of the East Mids

frecklejuice · 29/07/2026 08:43

I’m in the South East (Bromley) and could get a decent sized 2 bedroom flat, there are more but the areas aren’t that great. Could definitely find something though.

BigMartin · 29/07/2026 09:04

In and around Aberdeen you could get between a 3-5 bed detached in decent areas.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/07/2026 09:08

Modern 4 bed detached in ok areas, 3 bed detached in nice area in desirable school catchment etc, decent looking older properties. North West.

Lots of new builds around.

Apricotdog · 29/07/2026 10:48

2 bed apartment in Surrey

RobinEllacotStrike · 29/07/2026 10:53

thats about what my house is worth.

3 bed end of block townhouse, garden, built 1980, nice to live in, Kent, 15 minute walk to both an amazing beach, & train station to London.

Probably a garage. I live in north London.

You could get a one bedroom flat or studio. As I said before prices have dropped and many landlords are selling flats so ideal time for FTB. Although still expensive.
