What's with these parents taking massive trolleys when they go out for a day with preschool kids?

Is it something that we didn't know that we didn't have back in the day when we all just seemed to manage or are they unnecessary for lazy kids?

And it’s just as much your responsibility to watch out for them as it is for the person pulling it, who is just going about their day trying to get their kids around.

Why are people so spiteful towards people with kids nowadays?
I can guarantee you we’re all annoying people in some shape or form with your own kids at one point, and don’t give me that “No, my darlings never made a peep, walked in single file to a military march and laid across broken glass to help little old ladies cross the road” bullcrap.

Stop being so miserable. People with kids are allowed to take up space as much as anyone else is. Their kids are allowed to talk and make noise as much as any adult does.
Parents ARE allowed to have a life and leave the house.

If anyone is that aggrieved by people out with their kids using a wagon to pull them around in, maybe you and your delicate nature should stay at home, not them.

Im getting one of these. I have no kids at home now but this would be great for going to the garden centre and also doing a big supermarket shop without a car.

We just came back from a beautiful week in wales. Absolutely raging with myself that I didn’t buy one to take. We were strangled with backpacks, umbrellas, floats and picnic basket.

My DS is 24 and I had a trolley when he was little, so it’s not a new thing. Absolutely fantastic, I’d get other parents coming up and asking about it. I lived in the US for years, I got the idea from there, although I’d use them for cases of beer and a cooler back then 😆

I first came across them in Disney World when my kids were 4 and 2, and frankly they looked genius for a day out at the beach or something. But they weren't really a thing in the UK. I probably would have got one.

My kids are teens now, but I can see how they are useful if you are going to a festival or something to lug all your kit miles across a campsite.

This was a thing when my brother was a baby 😁 back in the 1960s and 1970s. As an 6 yrs older than him my mum got me to actually cart him along 😁

like when we used to cart around suitcases you had to carry before someone thought to put wheels on them. Someone thought of a good idea, it’s not laziness it’s helpful

My friend got out of her car and opened hers up in the parking lot of a soft play the other week and said she got a right look from another mum - you know the look the “geez what do you need a wagon for look”, by the time the other mum had wrangled her kids out the car my friend had all 3 of her triplets in the wagon and apparently the look soon changed 😂😂😂.

You can buy folding ones and usually can hire nice wooden ones in theme parks, zoos and so on. Gives you somewhere for all the useful stuff (change of clothes, picnic, jackets) and a useful transport for small kids when they are at the 'too big for a pram but get tired after a long day' stage.
We still use ours for so many things even though our children are long past small - camping gear and stuff at festivals, barbecue food and drinks, bags to the charity shop, during house moves - but it's more acceptable here and no one thinks it's weird.

I’m old, these have been around at least for 20 years. They weren’t as fancy but I used one for my kids at festivals. They were great.

I think they originally migrated from fishing/tool carts and somebody had the idea that they'd be great if turned into mini trailers instead of having a whining 5 year old trying to climb in a buggy on top of a younger sibling whilst another kid ran off in the direction of something interesting.

It's like dodgems at festivals, though, especially when they have a tent on top and all the chairs come out for the adults.

Why would anyone bring any of those things to the beach?

Towel. Picnic. Maybe windbreak but only in specific circumstances. Its a day at the beach not a polar expedition.

As someone who at one point had 3 under 2, I would have loved one. Pulling them up the hills of Sheffield might not have been much fun though and getting on and off the bus might be problematic.

My ds is 21 now.

We had what called a camping trolley. Great for putting everything in when you’re out for the day.

Mh ds would walk everywhere without complaint but I did suggest he could why in a few times when I could see he was tired. I’m not soft just realised when I felt tired I’m sure a pre schooler was knackered!

as he got older I switched to a shopping trolley bag thingy!

I still use them both now! Because he’s lazy? No! In fact at 8 he started to lose his mobility (he has a degenerative genetic condition) and now is a wheelchair user.

I still use my trollies now - often giving him a hand up a hill whilst pulling it 🤣

Where did I say you needed to stay in the shade at all time?

I said you need to stay in the shade in the middle of the day. There's plenty of time in the morning and later afternoon to be outside.

It's lazy parenting to plonk the kids outside at midday.

Gosh, whats with 'these' parents using these newfangled cars these days... in my day we walked everywhere or took a horse and buggy.

The first time I sat then was years ago in the Netherlands when DS was tiny, I thought that's a good idea, it also speaks to a culture where walking rather than driving is the default and young children and all of the stuff that goes with them can make that more difficult. For us not so bad only one child and I have a DH who would walk miles with a toddler on his shoulders/back in a harness, if we'd walked somewhere quite far and then had to do the return journey, but I can definitely see the appeal, ds got too heavy for me to carry much earlier than for DH

Neve head one when mine were toddlers but now they are older thinking of getting one for the beach. The ‘oooo lazy mothers with their fans and trollies and entitlement’ posts are so boring. It’s on every thread. This would be like me going on gransnet and starting a ruck about shopping trollies on buses.

They would have been great for an airshow when mine were young! Good for carting a picnic box and enough drink in the hot weather!

I eye them up with envy. My son is 10, so not really needed as much. I’ve another trolley type back I use for work (laptop; paperwork etc) because the office is A mile from the train station and I have an illness which results in a lot of pain. I’ve used this trolley at park days with my friends, who laugh at first: and then see how useful the trolley is
