What's with these parents taking massive trolleys when they go out for a day with preschool kids?

Is it something that we didn't know that we didn't have back in the day when we all just seemed to manage or are they unnecessary for lazy kids?
they seem to have bloody fans attached them as well

This sort of thing.

We spend three days a week (usually) outside for 5-6 hours so even just carrying enough water for me and three kids for that length of time weighs about 5 kilos!! Add in four lunches, a picnic blanket, picnic chairs, parasol, a couple of balls etc (not to mention swimming stuff for everyone if we're near a river or lake) and it's a wagon full!!

I used to carry most of that around in a massive rucksack, which was no good for my back (I have hoodies with wear patterns on the shoulders) and I don't want to limit our activities to what we can carry so the wagon is a godsend!

I've never seen these but mine are older.
I've seen toddlers being pushed in a trolley type thing with a table in the middle which would have been ideal when mine were little as I had two close in age.
I'm assuming the OP means an actual trolley for carrying objects though. Is it a push along one or a pull along like a shopping trolley?

We use one on holiday to go fishing/crabbing/to the beach etc. Very handy to stick camping chairs etc in or even make a little bed for a child that still naps.

I was genuinely eyeing one up myself the other day - they look really handy for carrying all the stuff I need, some of which os disability related and which I struggle to carry due to said disability. I don't have any children, though, so I'd have to pretend I was permanently on my way to a nannying job or something.

I was so ready to flame these but I took a look and they’re actually quite practical

I'd love one for my 6 year old as he has lots of equipment we need to travel with but I haven't figured out how to push his wheelchair with one hand while pulling a trolley with the other!

I don’t really get it over a pram, unless you have a mountain of stuff.

We took the pram (been stored in the garage for donkeys) to a festival at the weekend as we knew the walking would get a lot for the 4yo. The big basket was great for the drinks and stuff.
Yet we got multiple comments about him being too old from a pram from friends - all of whom had those trolleys! It’s no different!

Pretty sure I've seen proffesional dressed people using them to cart stuff round - between office and somewhere and DH says conference people use them for their stuff - he was a conference last week.

I think noticed them at beaches and lately parks more - with young kids in and stuff and parents not weight down by backpacks as we were.

DS is 26. He had a red metal Radio Flyer trolley with a seat (plus seatbelt!) built in. It went to the charity shop in th e end

we now have the wagon style one for picnics , etc.

my ultimate motherhood goal was to get them to pull me in it.

Because a pram has a limited life span. I've used my wagon for 20 years and counting.

I don't understand why OP is annoyed at 'bloody fans, lazy kids' or thinks people need an excuse to bring more stuff with them?
I don't have a kid and the trolleys look great, I could put my beach chair, pet, snacks, towel etc in one 😊

A buggy is taller, you might bump it but unlikely to fall into it from side on.

I was so shocked. The place was packed and it was impossible to move without someone walking into you. It seemed like such a hazard.

I'm suprised they aren't banned.

Multipe kids - that where I see benefit.

Plus it has wider applicablity after they are beyond age of pushchairs in later childhood but there is still loads of crap to carry round.

We have a big one and a small one, both invaluable!

They are very normal in lots of countries, the UK is lagging decades behind but I'm glad they are becoming popular.

You've really been clipped multiple times? Where does this happen? London?
I've never seen one other than in holiday resorts on wide promenades etc.

I think people are too quick to judge others, if it works for some families then why not? Anything that makes life easier eh?

Seen them used at festivals (kids fall asleep in them amongst the crates of beer )
Seen them for carting stuff from the car to the beach too.

I have stronger views on pushchairs for dogs if I am honest !

Instead of trying to carry bags, chairs etc, just put them all in a trolley that is easier to pull and manage the weight. Bit like a trolley at a supermarket! No point trying to balance 3 baskets :)

Re lazy kids, the trollies probably are not bought to enable/ encourage this, more that.. If it's been a long day and your child is tired, easy enough to let them hop in.

The fans will just be add ons if you know your child night be in one at sone point on a hot day out.
If it makes days out more enjoyable and easier, why not.

Yeah I was confused by being clipped multiple times.

I would've watched my ankles very carefully after the first clip.

Not that I should have to but they are my ankles so I need to take care of them 🤣

I saw parents using these at a recent day out at Colchester Zoo, @JoJuniorShabadoo, and I thought they looked like an excellent idea - much better than the parents having to be hung around with bags of all the stuff needed for the day out. What is wrong with parents using something to make their lives a bit easier? Especially in this heat!

They look great to me. We stuck with the buggy and squashing things in the basket/overbalancing it to a dangerous point with coats on the handles. We try to make our 5 year old carry her own stuff now with mixed results.

I had to LOL at the "bloody fans" too. God forbid a parent allow their child to feel a slight sense of relief from the merciless heat we currently have.

I was just thinking about my beach trip over the weekend with my one child, who is 3. I had the beach bag with towels, spare clothes, bottles of water, picnic/snacks. Another bag with beach toys, a blanket to sit on and the parasol. That's quite a lot of weight to lug around. Then my child had a sore foot from where his beach shoes had rubbed (lots of weaver fish on the particular beach) so something to lug him back to the car as well as all the stuff would have been bloody handy! And I've somewhere to stick a fan 😀

we have just replaced the original with a new bigger and better one for carting round our junk at shows/events. Don't knock it till you've tried it! I'm going to get a table attachment for it off Amazon for posh picnics. They are brilliant things for holding everything you might need for a great day out! My DD persuaded me to go halves with her for the first one, I was amazed at how useful I found it. I can see that it's a huge upgrade/improvement on a pram being used as a cart for a day on the beach as I had to in the 1990's.

I remember back in the day being told off in a supermarket queue, by a woman in a physio uniform, for pushing 4 year old DD in a buggy. She told me that DD was far too old to be in a pushchair and would never develop fitness. DD was seriously ill, had been released from hospital the day before, and had been in ICU the week before that. 😞.

We are very quick to judge.

Remember everyone, if you 'managed' without something back in the day then it's lazy and dumb to use it now, life should never get better or easier for anyone 👍
