What's with these parents taking massive trolleys when they go out for a day with preschool kids?

Is it something that we didn't know that we didn't have back in the day when we all just seemed to manage or are they unnecessary for lazy kids?
they seem to have bloody fans attached them as well

Surely you sit on the actual blanket on the sand? How easy is it to get across the sand?

We have one. At the beach it carries a picnic blanket, cool box, towels, spare clothes, flip flops, rubber ring, camping chairs, buckets and spades, a ball. All stuff we could carry but it’s just easier to pull it along.
And recently at a theme park it carried cool box, swimming stuff, spare clothes and our 4 year old so we could get around quickly enough to get on more than 3 rides in a day (plus the crap he bought in the shop on the way out)

Why does putting fans on them annoy you?!

I have young (but older than preschooler) kids and don't have one but know lots who do and totally see the appeal. I first saw people using them at festivals and they're a genius solution for that situation. Assuming they're not taking them somewhere inappropriately crowded then I can't see what possible harm they do. They probably do mean you take more 'just in case' stuff than if you only took what you could carry, but so does a pram or a car boot.

We kept our in line double pushchair for years instead of a trolley it was the very original Phil & Ted imported from NZ. It was for carting everything around and even the 6 year old could jump in for a rest if unwell etc. Ad a family of 6 even the picnic and drinks took a lot of carrying.

I'm not sure I understand the first question? Yes the blanket is for sitting or lying on.

I find it easy to pull across the sand.

How the hell are you getting them on the beach? Round here it's either loose sand or pebbles and you'd sink in if you had anything in the trolley.

Considering how much food/drink you can get in them they probably pay for themselves eventually, as these things can cost a fortune on a day out.

Even a small bottle of water can be very expensive.

i have and although we don't use it much in the uk (live in a city) we use it loads on holidays/beach days/long days out. great for naps and for my 4 year old who doesn't like walking

No they are not new new, and definitely not a sign of "lazy parenting" either.

It’s literally just a buggy in a different shape, you had buggies when your children are young, it’s really not that different.

Oh I miss the days when we could get both DC in one of those! Still have one. It's great for days out - you can pack a really decent picnic, wet weather gear. Also good for taking bags of clothes to the charity shop.

They’re fine for the beach etc, but I see they have been banned at Disney parks and on cruises. I must admit the last time I went to Disneyworld I was astonished at people arriving with those. So selfish!

Do they fold down or something? My husband’s most used phrase is “where’s that going to go?!”

My kids are in their 20’s and my buggy used to topple over from all the crap hanging off it.
I think the wagons are a great invention and I think they’re very cute too.

One of those things someone is annoyed by because it might actually make someone else's life easier.

I think I've only ever seen them being used at the beach, or parks where people have a load of stuff to lug around. Which is kind of the point of them. And why not? And if the child, who is knackered from running around at the picnic/beach/park/etc for hours, wants to sit in it back to the car, then crack on kiddo!

I was at Disney and saw someone with 2 small children in one just stop dead immediately behind a large gentleman taking a photo. He took a step backwards and got knocked off balance and due to how low it was he tumbled in squashing the kids.

They are a menace in busy places.

My DC ar 19 and 12, so I knew about these (but couldn't afford one at the time the DC were little). I think they look brilliant: great for the beach and picnics etc. I remember wrangling my youngest with her walking reins, a picnic basket/cool box and general paraphernalia on days out and a wagon trolley thing would have been brilliant

I started seeing them a few years ago and thought I wish they'd been a thing when our kids were younger.

The amount of crap you have to carry and kids get tried - we don't drive so you'd think we'd have had it down to a fine art - but a trolley like that would have made life easier especially on hoilday to beach - though it would have had to be very collapsable for trains and buses I suppose more so that just fit in a large car boot.

Plus kids often get more tried on hoilday - rememeber my IL insiting we didn't need a pushchair for DD2 youngest at 3 as she'd managed a day a theme park without pushchair being used for coats and bags. Took a day before we hired one and my IL were hugely relived - as DD2 at 3 quickly got too heavy to carry and was a peristant moaner.

I started noticing them at festivals. People not just people with kids would get up in the morning a long way from their tent and load them up for the day with chairs, blankets and what have you so they wouldnt need to go back to their tents.
I havent seen any out and about in town.

Can’t see how that would be any different if someone had a buggy and had to stop behind someone who paused to take a photo. No one should step backwards without looking where they are going, particularly an adult in a place marketed for children, he could have knocked over a toddler just standing.

I've never seen one of these but would have loved this in the 90s when my son was young. I can't drive and used to struggle SO much with carting him, pushchairs and shopping bags on and off buses.

Having 3under 3 I would have loved one of these but they weren't really a thing back in early 90s

Wagon / Festival Camping Beach Trolley

I've seen them at playgrounds and parks but usually mostly beaches - haven't really seen them round shops where I think they'd be a pain.

That one does look like it might be managable on a train or bus - though you'd then have stuff to manage out of it.
