VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

I find it really depressing when women put other women down or jump on how they look. Isn't it bad enough we have the media and a lot of men doing it?

Isn’t it just horrible? This thread is shocking.

SurreySenMum26 · 20/07/2026 20:43

It looks like a structured scuba type dress? In which case it probably has a nice shape if not blown by the wind. It's a funny angle shot to give any opinion at all.

She looks stunning and could easily pull of a vest top and shorts I suspect.

But a £850 dress for a down to earth man of the people spouse? Hmm... but even she can't win as it would be slated as cheap I guess.

She can wear whatever she likes.... but this doesn't flatter her at all.
Too small, too expensive for the look, and a poor fit.
I did read that she has had a double mastectomy but this dress did her no favours... maybe somebody will take her in hand and help her show herself at her best.

I see some bigger ladies that look fab cos they know what to wear.

So you really think she's a "bigger lady"?
Also - you've "seen some..."
What a...yucky...comment.

Maybe she earns her own money.

Maybe just maybe she bought it herself? She’s not the PM it’s not her job.

Isn't she something big in marketing? I guess she probably buys her own clothes.

I'm talking about Ms Van Heel in the context of this thread. Not anything her husband has said. That's irrelevant to my point.

I was making my own point, based on your point. It’s funny to talk about women being women shaped when this woman’s own husband, our new PM, thinks women can be men shaped. It’s wild out there!

If she really doesn’t care how she looked spending nearly £1000 on one dress isn’t a good idea.

She may have hired it. There is a big market in hiring designer dresses.

Livelovebehappy · 20/07/2026 20:46

Northernlassie123 · 20/07/2026 20:34

Doesn’t she earn her own money though? She can buy what she wants. It his job and she’s just in the photo with him

But surely a little bit of self awareness comes with the role of wife to the PM? Of course she’s her own person, but needs to be aware of the platform she is on. Her dh is announcing how he’s a man of the people, wants to help the ordinary man on the street, get the homeless off the streets, but his wife to his left supporting him is wearing a VB dress costing £850. Way out of the ordinary person’s budget.

This is a lady with a degree from Cambridge, who is multilingual, who had a successful corporate career and has brought up three children - and you are choosing to criticise her dress.

Have a word with yourself. I really hope she doesn’t see this feed. She looked lovely.

Yes she has all those attributes and is an attractive woman.

However she did not look lovely in that dress. She has a normal middle aged figure but the dress was too tight, did not fit well and was in a very unflattering shade.

She doesn't appear to be a woman who doesn't care what she looks like and has worn other much nicer clothes. She is already used to being seen in public so I would have thought for the first day as PM's wife she would have chosen a more flattering outfit.

At least she hasn't opened the door to No. 10 in her nightie like Cherie Blair!

True. It's a booming business.

Ovoemconserva · 20/07/2026 20:47

Can the woman not plug her kettle in before the bitching starts? Jesus. It's a dress. Do I like it? No. Does Mrs Burnham give a toss what I think? Also no.

Pibrea · 20/07/2026 20:47

I think she looks lovely. Why do we need to wear things that ‘flatter’ us and why on earth would a dress look better on a coat hanger than on a human body? Humans have thighs and tummies and we don’t need to hide them away.

keepincool · 20/07/2026 20:47

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 20/07/2026 20:17

It’s not her first outing is it? She’s been the mayor of manchesters wife for ages so you would think she’s a bit wise to the scrutiny. It was horrible. As soon as I saw it I thought what a poor choice it was. Too wishy washy and too tight. And the bloody shoes 😵‍💫. That’s why I’m not in the public eye. I could not abide the scrutiny 🧐

And yet here you are, scrutinising and negatively judging another woman 🤷‍♀️

SurreySenMum26 · 20/07/2026 20:47

Northernlassie123 · 20/07/2026 20:44

What I mean is he is normally very informal to appear a man of the people. That's blown out of the water as being down to earth I'd your wife wears a £850 dress. Bit like my mate who keeps telling me she is poor driving her Range Rover living in her 6 bed detached house. Sorry I can't relate that to working class life who ever earns it.

GrumpyPanda · 20/07/2026 20:47

It's awful but in all honesty the "Mrs Burnham" is much, much worse for a woman who goes by HER OWN name. I wonder if she felt a nice sleek trouser suit would be instantly picked on.

DontrockthecaravanGeoffrey · 20/07/2026 20:48

I thought he looked completely smart and appropriate and she looked spirited and full of personality. Marie-France's look gave me vibes of Paula Yates at her most chic which is a massive compliment as far as I'm concerned.

Is she called Mrs Burnham. Also no. 😂

LocalHobo · 20/07/2026 20:49

Wow! I've actually never seen VB label worn by a 'normal' woman and I like it. Most females in VB look so asexual but this shouts real woman.

Jane379 · 20/07/2026 20:49

MissFancyDay · 20/07/2026 20:26

I meant that when people were discussing Akshata Murty's dress on here a few years ago there wasn't a lot of criticism of the discussion. It seems that it's ok to comment on a Tory wife but not a Labour one. That is the hypocrisy.

Were people criticising her dress? I don't remember her dressing particularly poorly

Anyway, I think it'd stupid to criticise either woman for their clothing. As long as the clothing is suitable for a formal occasion, what's the issue? They're not models, or even public figures.

The husbands of Theresa May or Liz Truss (admittedly not there long) never had their style criticised.

bafta16 · 20/07/2026 20:49

Northernlassie123 · 20/07/2026 20:37

Maybe she’s not that bothered about finding a ‘safe flattering style’ ( in your view)
She’s intelligent and has a life .

I mean a style by which she will not be attacked by other people.

Good Luck to her.

titchy · 20/07/2026 20:50

Middle aged woman wears respectable dress that shows average middle aged woman shape. This is important and worth bitchy comments because…?

JacknDiane · 20/07/2026 20:51

She looked like a normal woman.

Was it really £850? I’ve seen nicer dresses on Shein.
VB must be laughing all the way to the bank, that is if she actually laughs.

Oh come off it, you really haven’t seen nicer dresses on Shein!

Ovoemconserva · 20/07/2026 20:51

Apologises Marie-France (ms(?) van heel )
