VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

TheBlueKoala · 20/07/2026 19:42

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

Christ alive that looks dreadful.
(I don't care if it's bitchy either)

This is a depressing thread. She’s not even chosen to be a public figure. Indeed who would want to with this level of comment and scrutiny. Let’s make her feel awful, why don’t we.

Agree. Although it lifted my spirits to see the ops pick of a dress that would look good on everyone. Have a look, it will make you feel better too.

NorthCoast500 · 20/07/2026 22:11

There is a bit of snobbery on here about people who care about their appearance (see the competitive “I haven’t touched an iron since 1976” posts).

I do think appearance is important. I don’t think heavy make up and designer gear and high heels etc are important but I do think it’s important to look neat and polished and groomed in a professional role or to an important event etc. I wouldn’t dream of going to work in an unironed top, for example.

On the topic at hand. The dress wasn’t a great choice. But I’m sure FM is painfully aware of that now. We’ve all been there.

That dress would look absolutely hideous on me.

It would look hideous on anyone.

Lampzade · 20/07/2026 22:11

I am not a fan of VB’s designs
Those slip nightie dresses are horrid

ThePlayLady · 20/07/2026 22:12

I think she looks lovely. Certainly not the worst dress I’ve ever seen.

Treesnthings · 20/07/2026 22:12

TemperanceWest · 20/07/2026 21:56

That colour would make me look like I had been freshly dug up 😅. But you would look lovely, I am sure.

😂same here - that is a dress that would divide opinions. This is a person who is there to support her partner, and probably would rather be doing anything else but she turned up, did her bit and off he goes to do his job.
I am Irish so no skin in the game but I’m rattled by this!

But she's not torn to shreads! A bad dress choice isn't tearing anyone to shreds- she can be the most likeable person on the earth. And I honestly don't think she cares about what anyone thinks about her dress- she's a mature business woman not an accessoire.

But you don’t know that she doesn’t care do you? Imagine she is here on MH and by chance stumbles across your thread? You are mean.

LondonLass2026 · 20/07/2026 22:13

Honestly, not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But that might be because your description made it sound so horrific.

Vinvertebrate · 20/07/2026 22:13

The dress looks flammable. I had higher hopes for her style, because she’s apparently got “cool girl” history. In which case fuck knows why she married “—cock— king of the north” Andy.

But yes, awful dress, makes her look enormous, doing VB no favours either, but I would imagine she designs her frocks for the twiglet folk rather than the more ample-of-belly.

I think you win nastiest post on this thread.🏆

Oh and it’s worth moting that Boris and his wife were truly torn to shreds endlessly and much more ruthlessly on here, and the very same hypocrites now on here complaining! It’s staggering.

The Daily Telegraph article is full of nonsense, and patronising phrases including “ as Van Heel grows into the role she may choose to work with a stylist who can advise on what photographs and films well from every angle“
Many of the comments below the DT article are vicious and sneering. Depressing. I feel sorry for anyone in public life who is constantly under this scrutiny. And we know it is generally worse for women, as always.

There is some truth in what The Telegraph writes.

Dresses, make up, clothes in general can photograph differently from what they look like IRL.

Thisis why brides are advised to take photos of their dress and make up. The photos stay around forever.

The dress was fine, it was just the way it photographed on her that didn’t work.

Brightlittlecanary · 20/07/2026 22:01

Maybe she wasn’t interested in flattering her figure , whatever th4 hell that means , maybe she wasn’t showing off her body, but wearing a pretty dress she felt comfortable in and she liked, ? Not every woman wants to show her body off.

Or cover it up.so it is "flattering "

SummerPeonies2026 · 20/07/2026 22:16

How ironic that you call me mean while saying she might be here reading about someone not liking her dress feeling upset about it.

Really? I think Andy is going to be called worse than a cock before the week’s out. And the dress being flammable? It really does look very…synthetic?

BIossomtoes · 20/07/2026 22:17

Your interpretation of an appropriate frock for a sophisticated woman of 55 is interesting to say the least. You’ve lost all the little credibility you started with.

The exact same posters? Have you been tracking usernames? Do you have a spreadsheet of who says what?

I think the dress is awsome. Much better than the VB crap.

Do you only recognise one female body shape?

If he walked into No. 10 with that woman in that dress, I'd be more worried about him being an incompetent predator than just incompetent.

It doesn’t suit her but many people wear clothes that don’t suit them. It’s ok, not worth the price tag though.
