VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

TheBlueKoala · 20/07/2026 19:42

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

Victoria Beckham has an eating disorder and seems incapable of designing clothes for women who don’t. Mrs Burnham deserved a tailor made dress today. What she was wearing didn’t fit her nicely. I do a fair bit of amateur dressmaking and I could have flattered her figure with a better cut.

I hate that mn has turned into a site to tear down women’s clothing choices. Yesterday was the spice girls and today it’s the prime minister’s wife… who isn’t a fucking model.

There’s another one on Lilly Allen. Women ripping into women for their clothes and bodies. It’s shameful,

At least it's not the usual hatred directed towards people with obesity.

Oh well it looks like there are loads in stock, not exactly flying off the shelf so you may as wellwait for the sale

Yes I thought that too!

Fiftyandnotsonifty · 20/07/2026 22:01

FFS the poor woman being torn to shreds already when she’s done nothing wrong other then where a dress you don’t like 🙄

Cheeseandolivesplease · 20/07/2026 22:01

@Rosscameasdoody But, with respect, you have also assumed. Her name is not Mrs Burnham - it's Ms van Heel.

NorthCoast500 · 20/07/2026 21:57

I mean to be fair the press etc had an awful lot to say about Andy’s tiny little running shorts recently 🏃🏼

Dh has the same! 😳 I told him I don't care for them but he said it's for the ladies he meets outside while running 😂.

I think a couple of the photos I saw were a really unflattering angle. I don't know why the papers had to share those ones. They could have chosen others.

Maybe she wasn’t interested in flattering her figure , whatever th4 hell that means , maybe she wasn’t showing off her body, but wearing a pretty dress she felt comfortable in and she liked, ? Not every woman wants to show her body off.

Cheeseandolivesplease · 20/07/2026 22:02

Please can everyone stop calling her Mrs Burnham!!

I wish women would just stop.

The weight threads are similar. One after another ... most of them just goading for the frisson of nasty comments.

Well at least you’re well matched if that’s how you spend your time at home, slagging off other people’s clothes,

and considering the awful markies dresses you have posted, I doubt either of you have room to speak,

Mn has always had some unkind commenters but the need to criticise women is really awful right now. I bet those commenting aren’t all athletic, slim women who walk out the door looking immaculate. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all (… including making unkind posts on social media)!

Clafoutie · 20/07/2026 22:03

The Daily Telegraph article is full of nonsense, and patronising phrases including “ as Van Heel grows into the role she may choose to work with a stylist who can advise on what photographs and films well from every angle“
Many of the comments below the DT article are vicious and sneering. Depressing. I feel sorry for anyone in public life who is constantly under this scrutiny. And we know it is generally worse for women, as always.

badboss2020 · 20/07/2026 22:03

It annoys me that I thought the same and then hated myself for even thinking it.
Ive seen pics of her and she’s pretty cool and funky most of the time so I think this just wasn’t the best dress for her.

But she's not torn to shreads! A bad dress choice isn't tearing anyone to shreds- she can be the most likeable person on the earth. And I honestly don't think she cares about what anyone thinks about her dress- she's a mature business woman not an accessoire.

This dress is 169£. It's just an example of a type of dress that looks good on all of us.

Flowers, stripes and lace. My eyes, my eyes...

Why would you assume he paid for it?!!

She actually has an extremely successful career of her own.

The only explanation is that @Grammarnut must not have worked a day in her life and does not understand the concept of women having their own income.

"A bad dress choice" You might want to review the dress you linked.

Yeah she is, post pics of you in your awful markies dresses and see how it feels.

Careful now ... I'm considering the flowery milkmaid one and, unlike Van Heel, I am here to hear you.

Agree re the blue sack thing though.

theresnolimits · 20/07/2026 22:07

This is a depressing thread. She’s not even chosen to be a public figure. Indeed who would want to with this level of comment and scrutiny. Let’s make her feel awful, why don’t we.

Me neither.

Tbh, I am not sure the scandic looking model is pulling off that dress either.

pizzaHeart · 20/07/2026 22:07

I’m really surprised that it costs so much !!! I thought it’s much cheaper.
She looked ok - she ticked all necessary boxes of the occasion and was dressed for the weather.
Cherie Blair opened her door in a nightdress and her husband managed to win two more elections after that.
