VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

£850 for that? And shows that Burnham and his ilk know nothing about how most people live. If Mayor of Manchester's wife can spend £850 on a dress then politicians are paid too much.

I don't think she relies on his money - she may well be the higher earner in the family.

It's not particularly flattering but I don't like her any the less for wearing it. It's only a dress and what she is like as a person is the important thing

I agree.

Maybe just maybe she bought it herself? She’s not the PM it’s not her job.

At least we can be reasonably certain it wasn't bought for her by Lord Alli.

All of us? I have 30J boobs, you think they’d fit in those little triangles? I would look hideous in that dress.
Plus it’s horrible.

And puff sleeves? They look terrible on me.

Why would you assume he paid for it?!!

She actually has an extremely successful career of her own.

Calliopespa · 20/07/2026 21:54

I like it! 😃

Not for that occasion though (not that I'm married to the PM!)

That colour would make me look like I had been freshly dug up 😅. But you would look lovely, I am sure.

What because this is the 1950s and women don’t have their own money??

Rosscameasdoody · 20/07/2026 21:57

I watched the whole proceedings including their walk back down Downing Street. Mrs Burnham came across as down to earth and approachable - stopping to chat and hug people she knew, and to chat and embrace children. She seems lovely and I’d far rather have someone like this than a bloody coat hanger, obsessed with how they look rather than engaging with the day. Sorry OP - threads criticising womens’ bodies, appearances and even dress sense, never go down well. This is out of order - it must have been such a stressful day for them both and this is what you choose to focus on ?

NorthCoast500 · 20/07/2026 21:57

I mean to be fair the press etc had an awful lot to say about Andy’s tiny little running shorts recently 🏃🏼

Since Marie-France has a job of her own it’s quite possible that she pays for her own clothes and isn’t reliant on her husband’s income. 🙄

Whatever she chose to wear some people would be critising it, and her, and her H for some aspect of her choice. It was a no win situation.

Why not direct your attention to his choice of cabinet and his policies and how he aquits himself in his new role as PM rather than getting hot under the collar about his wife's dress?

I'm truly tempted by it.

I would pick flowers and drink pink lemonade in it.

This has to be one of the most depressing comments on this thread. There's a good chance she vastly out earns her husband and is not bankrolled by him. Please let's start acknowledging that many women earn vast amounts of money and are hugely successful. They're not the support act for their husband.

How can you tell the op she is out of line whilst hurling abuse at women calling them coat hangers etc ??

AquaLeader · 20/07/2026 21:58

The Telegraph nasties are out in force already.

Soontobe60 · 20/07/2026 21:59

First, she’s not called Mrs Burnham, she’s called Marie-France van Heel.
Second, why the hell are people commenting on her clothing? I know if I had to walks down Downing Street in 30 degree heat with the world’s press photographing me I’d likely look a right dog’s dinner. She has had 3 children and so has earned the right to have a bit of a tummy. If anyone’s offended because she hasn’t trussed herself up in Spanx so that people would believe she’s got the tummy of an anorexic 16 year old, that’s their problem.
Stop it!

Well I could pretend anyway...

DaisyDooley · 20/07/2026 21:59

Loved the dress.
Unfortunately Mrs Burnham was the wrong shape & size fit it.
shes goy a perfectly fine figure which I’m sure will look a lot better in something that fits her.
Bonus point for choosing a British designer.
LOVED Vick Starmers leaving dress though.
Does anyone know where it’s from?

Foxesandstars · 20/07/2026 21:59

What a horrible comment. Do you often comment on and degrade women you don't know like this?

Brightlittlecanary · 20/07/2026 21:56

Agree. Dreadful assumption. Mrs Burnham has her own successful career and as such I would assume the dress wasn’t at the expense of the tax payer.

Yes she’s a very successful marketing executive. Like many women today, she can buy her own clothes.

bluewhitebluewhite · 20/07/2026 21:59

Please don’t do this. She deserves better than having her choice of dress slagged off on the internet. By women!

TeenLifeMum · 20/07/2026 21:59

I hate that mn has turned into a site to tear down women’s clothing choices. Yesterday was the spice girls and today it’s the prime minister’s wife… who isn’t a fucking model.

Oh well it looks like there are loads in stock, not exactly flying off the shelf so you may as wellwait for the sale
