VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

I thought it showed a high level of self confidence. I would have worn something very structured, perhaps including a sharply cut blazer, as 'armour', knowing that there would be photos and footage splashed all over. She chose a dress she liked and felt happy in, so good for her.

She’s a pretty amazing woman. I can’t imagine she gives a shit about clothes. I can’t imagine her and andy sitting at home at night leaving through Vogue - and that’s a very good thing.

I think a lot of people here are being disingenuous and arguing for argument's sake.

It was a very special moment. You can't ignore that.

They did the same thing 40 years ago, for men and women. Michael Foot in his donkey jacket, if anyone here is old enough to know that, Norma Major in a home made suit, Cherie Blair, etc.

They are in a high profile public role. Clothes matter and it's naiive to think otherwise.

Yes it seems you can have multiple thoughts and they’re not nice. All of which is allowed obviously. But I’m still sad that so many are being unkind like this.

People need to stop policing what women wear.

There isn't enough structure and the fabric is always too thin.

I guess in fairness she thought British designer with an appropriate background for a Labour PM's wife. She probably has dozens of things she has to factor in that don't even occur to us.

Lots of hate on this thread. Think the general opinion seems to be that she spent too much on a 'bad dress', makes her look fat, squeezing into a size 12, synthetic fabric..and obviously the wife of a PM that you don't like so she deserves this hate. MN can be a horrible place.

I had to check when this thread popped up. It’s great! Hints of a confident, sophisticated, European woman. I also Googled her and wow, she is very stylish in all her outfits.

That looks like a bin bag with a thread snagged on one side.

I don't disagree that it isn't necessary to spend a fortune, but I prefer what she wore.

It does look awful. Very unflattering. She must like it though.

But she still spent £850 on it, whether that was now or earlier.

It was a good dress, it just didn’t photograph well.

I don’t really rate VB as a designer. This is proof that her clothes really don’t work on normal women.
