The best conspiracy theory you’ve heard.

I thought I had managed to curate a lovely instagram algorithm, meadows, wildlife, horses, country gardens all peaceful and calm. I’ve no idea what happened but last night it was rudely interrupted with many videos about project blue beam, holographic images of a spaceship and clones. I mean I’d love to see an actual UFO but these things are batshit.

Now I’m intrigued by conspiracy theories, I can’t believe there are folks who have so much belief in some of them.

Neither of those were conspiracy theories any more than the Manhattan Project or the activities of MI5 were (and are) conspiracy theories. Bad as they were, they weren’t about conspiracies but about covert activities.

This is rather disingenuous, because at their heart, all "Conspiracy Theories" actually are is a belief that the official narrative is untrue. So there is a proposition, or a claim, or a narrative which purports one thing, and that can also be a negative, i.e. x does not exist/did not happen, which gives rise to people who contest these claims but can not necessarily conclusively demolish them due to lack of evidence, and these are invariably dismissed as your "Conspiracy Theorists".

The Manhattan project is a spectacularly bad example to cite in an attempt to support your position, because while it may have been secret and denied while it was in the planning stage, the product of it was anything other than clandestine, in fact, you'd be hard pushed to come up with something more overtly public in human history, and far from having a vested interest in denial and cover-up in the aftermath, those responsible used the demonstration of the product as a means to sabre-rattle and exert power. They absolutely wanted the world to know the truth, because otherwise having the Bomb was rendered rather pointless.

If that definition of a conspiracy theory were right, any doubt about any subject would be a conspiracy theory. ‘Conspiracy theory’ doesn’t mean anything then.

The Manhattan Project was spectacularly public because it worked. MK Ultra was kept secret because it didn’t work. Even some things that are successful are kept secret, like Enigma was for decades, but they’re not proof of any truth in conspiracy theories.

There’s nothing disingenuous in that. What’s disingenuous is arguing that formerly secret programmes are somehow evidence of the possibility of loony conspiracy theories.

But the main trouble with many conspiracy theories is that they’re horrible attempts at demonising people, whether politically, racially or for some other reason.

It’s a lot more convincing than pointing to anything unusual or surprising and claiming it’s proof of the truth of conspiracy theories.

Some people love to keep the possibility of truth in ludicrous conspiracy theories going because it makes the whole nonsense so much more exciting.

When you say 'ludicrous conspiracy theories', do you actually mean ludicrous ones or do you mean ALL conspiracy theories? Do you genuinely think people pondering and questioning the official narrative about what happened to David Kelly and Robin Cook are utterly ludicrous? Was Blair's 'sexed-up dossier' nothing more than a genuine mistake, where he and everybody else involved simply forgot to tell the truth?

What about the conspiracy theories that are presented to us in the UK as the official narrative: i.e. that the official narrative from Russia or Iran is a lie? Either way, if one government tells you that black is black and another government tells you that black is white, and both of them insist that the other is lying... how can you possibly say that there was no truth of any conspiracy?

Are you somebody who just assumes that governments and powerful people only ever tell the truth to the general populace; or otherwise if they do tell us something that later turns out not to be true, it's purely either one nefarious individual working completely alone or general overall incompetence? Or is it just that, like most people, you've been conditioned to equate 'conspiracy theory' with 'crazy and stupid' and never for a moment consider whether there just might possibly be any truth in any one of them?

How do you explain all of the crimes that involve conspiracy - and all of the people who are charged with and found guilty of conspiracy to commit a serious crime? Were those people found guilty really conspiring, or was there maybe a conspiracy amongst the judicial system to lie and pretend that the former were conspiring?!

I thought for ages that dinosaurs were just made up, I mean how do they know what colour they were for example?
It took quite a bit of solid evidence (bones found etc) before I reluctantly accepted they probably did exist.

Surely we all know that dinosaurs were invented by the Victorians? No dinosaurs turned up until the Victorians did! Obvious when you think about it….

They don't know what colour they were. I was at the Natural History museum recently and had a tour and we were told that they may have had fur or feathers, but as there is no evidence they are shown as best knowledge can show them. I love the idea that they might have been all furry!

The biggest conspiracy theory is conspiracy theories aren't true.

because instead they are all secret projects etc

PenelopeJoanSterling · 27/06/2026 02:05

that and we recently went to the moon because the moon base we had got took out of action

obviously thats crazy idea but thats what someone thought

That all the contestants on Traitors were related in some way. Seriously people went nuts over this.

OP the Instagram algorithm every now and then gives you something new! Its quite boring once you spot the pattern (though I am about to read wiki on conspiracies...)

The conspiracy theory about a network of elites being involved in trafficking and abusing children turned out to be true.

I had a friend who bought into this conspiracy during Trump's first presidency. The part about the elites was true all right, but not so much the part where it was a Democratic Party elite abuse ring and Donald Trump became President because it's the only way he can secretly break all the left wing pinko paedophile gangs.
They really believed that DT was a saviour of children.

Frazzledfringe · 27/06/2026 03:56

The Epstein files exposed a global pedo human trafficking network. That’s not a conspiracy theory, the files are publicly available from the Department of Justice website. https://www.justice.gov/epstein

I would avoid though, I couldn’t sleep for weeks it’s the stuff of nightmares.

Jeffrey Epstein did not kill himself.

My friend is convinced Bill Gates is behind all the evil in the world (I actually wasn't listening to the details of her theory but apparently everyone knows this 😀). She also thinks JFK Jr. faked his own death and is alive. Not sure why he would do that 🤷‍♀️

Ooh I know a paleontologist who did do research to find out the colour of some dinosaurs. I'll see if I can find the paper 🙂

There are several papers and interviews and so on. The paleontologist name is Jakob Vinther.

Maddest one I know of is that Finland, the country, is not real. I’ve been there myself many times, or at least I think I have.

But it’s worth saying that a lot of things we now know to be true were brushed off as conspiracy theories and especially since Covid (definitely real but left a lot of people feeling disenfranchised and spending far too long online) people are more susceptible to believing them. Very recently, it was apparently a mean conspiracy theory that Biden had dementia and wasn’t up to the job. I mean, clearly anyone with ears or eyes could see him and knew it was true but were repeatedly told he was fine and it was all lies. Likewise the Epstein files.

I've never heard the Finland one, what the hell is that all about? I go to Helsinki at least once a year to see family. At least I think I do 🤣

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 27/06/2026 02:46

I think you’ve misunderstood what conspiracy theories are.

A conspiracy theory is simply the belief that two or more people may have been working together at something nefarious, whilst deliberate misleading, lying to or neglecting to mention to people with a clear interest (often, but not always the general public) what they are really doing.

Obviously, things like secret undercover investigations or projects within government, the police etc. on a need-to-know basis may well not qualify as conspiracies, unless they are clearly presented as something else in order to deceive.

The problem is that most people automatically assume that 'conspiracy theory = crazy idiotic fantasy', meaning that any posited CT that turns out to be true was automatically never actually a CT in the first place!

That JFK one is an interesting part of the rabbit hole - where CTs diverge and may or may not contain some truth in one respect, but be completely ridiculous in others. Some may believe that the false paths are deliberately begin and promoted by those who don't want you to find the true one!

I think the official narrative of the assassination of JFK leaves some very big legitimate questions open for consideration. The actual logistics of his shooting and how the bullet arrived in him; and Executive order 11110, which was going through having been issued by JFK (and mysteriously repealed after his death), which big, powerful bankers may well not have wanted, just for two.

However, I personally (and I would guess the vast majority of us) have no doubt that JFK did indeed die that day and thus was gone out of the picture.

Talking of EO 11110, the Titanic is another one that some people question, whereby some very powerful people who were opposed to the establishing of the Federal Reserve, and could have thwarted the plan, happened to be on the ship and died when it went down. Might the two be linked; or might they have been just separate tragedies/lone-wolf crimes that happen to have some interesting coincidences?

There's also the separate CT about the Titanic, whereby it was secretly switched with another (known to be damaged) ship in order to fraudulently claim a huge amount of insurance money.

Are both Titanic CTs true; are they both false; is one true and the other false - and if so, was the false one spread deliberately to take the heat off the true one?! Whatever the truth of it all, I really don't see why people should be slapped down and instantly told that they're lunatics just for asking questions.

David Rockefeller actually wrote the below in his memoirs. Are we supposed to read that and just think "That's nice dear, but you must have got very confused and carried away, bless you; as the official narrative is always correct and only those mad, stupid people ever suspect anything else" ? Or was David Rockefeller himself one of those crazy, deluded conspiracy theorists?!

“For more than a century, ideological extremists, at either end of the political spectrum, have seized upon well-publicized incidents, such as my encounter with Castro, to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal, working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists,' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.

“We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years......It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supernational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past centuries.”

Apologies all - my friend was talking about John F Kennedy Junior faking his own death - not President JFK himself. Although, I personally am convinced the circumstances of JFK's (the elder's) death must have been a conspiracy. Bobby's assassination was also so bizarre! I think the Kennedy assassinations are some of the biggest mysteries of our time that will never be properly solved. Nothing to do with John Kennedy Junior faking his own death though 😂

I also love the theory that Jim Morrison faked his own death and went off to live a life away from fame somewhere in the mountains

He didn’t go to live in the mountains, he was at a London party in the 80s.
Someone I used to know passed him on the stairs, asked “Is that you Jim?” and he nodded

She wouldn’t accept that when she was drunk that some random guy just humoured her, or that some random guy may have also happened to be named Jim

On a lesser note, I watched a Doors cover band in a
small pub in Salisbury once. The stage was the standard platform about a foot higher than the rest of the room.
A group of teens were up front

Afterwards they were outside with one crying as the others explained that it wasn’t the real Doors and Jim was dead
