The best conspiracy theory you’ve heard.

I thought I had managed to curate a lovely instagram algorithm, meadows, wildlife, horses, country gardens all peaceful and calm. I’ve no idea what happened but last night it was rudely interrupted with many videos about project blue beam, holographic images of a spaceship and clones. I mean I’d love to see an actual UFO but these things are batshit.

Now I’m intrigued by conspiracy theories, I can’t believe there are folks who have so much belief in some of them.

Not so much the best, it's actually one of the worst but i've seen people online talking about the 'red shoe club' where the insane belief is that high-profile people suspected of CSA or murder are seen wearing red shoes made of the skin of babies.

Conspiracy theorists are dangerous and usually not healthy mentally. I don't think any of them are funny because even supposed harmless ones are the thin end of the wedge.

StoptheworldIneedtogetoff · 26/06/2026 08:25

The 9/11 conspiracies I've read a lot of. There's also the London tube/bus attacks in 2005 that are widely debated by conspiracy theorists. Can spend a lot of time going down those rabbit holes!

MagpiePi · 26/06/2026 08:26

Not really a widespread conspiracy theory but I did have an argument on MN years ago with a woman who thought vaccinating children was only promoted by the government so that mothers would have no excuse not to go out to work and pay taxes (to the evil government, obvs) instead of following their true calling, which was to stay at home and minister to sick children. 🙄

Dinosaurs never existed.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/06/2026 08:30

I can't remember where but I very recently (yesterday) read a conspiracy theory that pandas were invented by the Chinese in 1937 initially using advanced clockwork mechanisms - but more recently AI controlled robotics.
I've checked my 1912 Harmsworth Encylopedia - and THERE IS NO MENTION OF PANDAS (although I am missing volume 5 - O-S). The truth is out there.
I shall be informing everyone at work today...

If Finland isn’t real, where does everyone go? It’s like the Antarctic wall, a whole civilisation lives beyond, allegedly.

If Finland isn't real I might need to LTB as DP told me he went to Finland to work for two weeks, he even brought me back a bottle of Finnish gin, which was obviously a ruse to make the story more believable.

I also have a friend who says she goes to Finland quite often, to visit relatives. She posts a lot of photos on Whatsapp, again, obviously as part of the cover story. Perhaps they're having an affair Shock and 'going to Finland' is code for them shagging.

OMG OP, what have you done.....

One of my best friends actually said this to me while we were out to dinner. I just looked at her like 😳 and so she quickly changed the subject.

Bjorkdidit · 26/06/2026 08:37

But there's a thread running now where the OP seems to think that 'they' are under-reporting the real temperature in the hot weather we're having, for suspicious reasons.

I don't know what she thinks the Met Office etc will gain if it's really slightly hotter than the temperature in the weather forecast but it's probably similar to most CTs, people who just don't understand even basic science.

I’m not sure how I feel about Pandas. I’m always surprised there’s not a panda based conspiracy.
I would not be shocked at all if I woke up to find out that China has invented pandas as an early attempt at soft power around the globe!
They behave like toddlers, have no interest in mating, are they really the product of natural evolution? Not exactly survival of the fittest territory 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pandas are Spanish apparently. Or at least their ancestors are from the Iberian Peninsula as I recall. But that was when landmasses were in different places of course. And yup, they are an evolutionary dead end. But do not say that in China.

China is interesting on conspiracies. Many are banned. Fake moon landings, flat earth are both banned. Because China has a space program.

But conspiracists need to conspiracy. So the big one in China that is allowed is that all western history is faked. That China invented everything, foreigners stole it, and then used it to build a totally fake history to hide that they nicked all the tech from China.

Hadrians wall ? Fake. Stonehenge ? Fake.

Also humans out of Africa is fake too. They came out of China. This one was official government policy till very recently. It still sort of is. Or at least it is one that the CPC does not mind at all.

Jellylasagnafortwo · 26/06/2026 08:37

I was born in Finland. I moved to the U.K. when very young so only remember living here.

At least that’s what my parents told me….

Seen that thread. And the OP has been told about how temps are measured.

But check out GB news comments. The overwhelming theory there is that the met office put weather stations on airports, and the thermometers directly in line with hot jet blast from planes... cos climate change be fake.

:-)

During Covid, I fell down a little bit of a rabbit hole - following a couple of Covid denier influencers and just couldn’t believe some of the stuff they’d post.
Flat earthers
Holocaust didn’t happen
Suncream cause cancer

Can’t remember now but there were so many more and some were just wild!

Never got to the bottom of why we are lied to about the fact dinosaurs didn’t exist
But I remember seeing a similar photo posted as ‘evidence’ which did make me chuckle …

The best conspiracy theory you’ve heard.

Of course the giant panda always existed but it was first identified by zoology in 1869 but only from skins of a dead specimien.

The first live one seen in the wild by zoologists was in 1916 but left there in the wild.

The first one captured and removed from China was in 1936.

Conspiracy theorists are dangerous and usually not healthy mentally. I don't think any of them are funny because even supposed harmless ones are the thin end of the wedge.

This is the danger, though: putting people into two distinct camps - the 'conspiracy theorists' who are mad, bad and/or dangerous; and the 'non conspiracy-theorists' who are measured, wise and sensible.

Do you really think that anybody who questions why rich, powerful people who have been evidentially implicated in horrific things connected to Epstein, but who are not being officially questioned or charged with anything, are deluded and dangerous and should keep their stupid ideas to themselves? Were the people who believed that President Biden had dementia - and that this was being hidden from us - mentally ill, either before or after it was admitted as true, or both?

A conspiracy is nothing more or less than a nefarious, secret plot made between two or more people. Criminals are charged, found guilty of and punished for 'conspiracy to X' all the time. Are all of the police, legal professionals and juries involved in investigating these mamy cases deluded and mentally illl?

Time line jumps is another I’ve seen, lady has 4 bowls has always had 4 bowls, all of a sudden she has 5 of them.

I would absolutely love it if this entire worldly shit show was all fake and we suddenly got beamed up to a happily ever after!

I was listening to a podcst earlier (As the Season Turns, June episode) which is generally a bit hippy and cookie anyway. They were talking about dragonflies (lots of them about in June), and it segued into a peom about dragonflies listening to mobile phone and internet communications so they could intercept the messages and stop the "imps" hearing and causing trouble.

My face was very much -> 😳😵‍💫😬

From a peotic and production perspective it was cleverly done, and at the end there was a second voice who said something like "he'll be declared mad, don't you think?". The scary thing for me was that it's exactly the sort of theory I could imagine someone with a tenuous grip on reality latching onto and thinking real!

It's not the best in terms of insanity, but as a vegan, I love the one that says PETA is a psy-ops for big meat, trying to make vegans and veganism sound as insane and annoying as possible because, really, what other explanation is there for their batshit campaigns? Pretty much every vegan I know hates them.

Dinosaurs never existed.

I once did a whole day of mini children's nature trails around church grounds at a church fete. The vicar tagged along to the first scheduled walk, and I pointed out horsetail ferns that were growing and told children these were the earliest plants to evolve and they existed when dinosaurs roamed.

The vicar took me aside and politely requested that I don't mention either evolution or dinosaurs for the rest of the days walks!

Ah, that unlocks the whole new world of the controlled opposition!

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 26/06/2026 14:58

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats - I read that and think, “sounds totally plausible”

I say all this as a person who does not believe in any other conspiracy theories!
But pandas do make you think!!

I also love the theory that Jim Morrison faked his own death and went off to live a life away from fame somewhere in the mountains
