The best conspiracy theory you’ve heard.

I thought I had managed to curate a lovely instagram algorithm, meadows, wildlife, horses, country gardens all peaceful and calm. I’ve no idea what happened but last night it was rudely interrupted with many videos about project blue beam, holographic images of a spaceship and clones. I mean I’d love to see an actual UFO but these things are batshit.

Now I’m intrigued by conspiracy theories, I can’t believe there are folks who have so much belief in some of them.

There is an old conspiracy theory that Paul McCartney died young and they brought in a double. I spent hours reading about this, it's fascinating even though you know it's bollocks.

I remember that rumour at the time it came out. One of their songs, played backwards, sounds like "Paul is dead man, miss him miss him".
I think it may have been I am the Walrus.
I heard it played backwards on radio and I couldn't hear anything!
Also, on the cover of Abbey Road, Paul has bare feet (corpse), George is in denim (gravedigger), John in white (minister), Ringo in black (undertaker).
I don't believe the conspiracy theory by the way, but they must have done it on purpose.

DD lived with a CT.
He believed C19 vax were a ruse for implanting microchips in you.
Same for face masks- laced with 5G spores.
Chemtrails. He turned the Internet router off at night and put the microwave into a home made Faraday box..there were many more, but that's all I can remember

JulietteHasAGun · 26/06/2026 17:46

Have you not seen all about the Pentagon files, etc regarding UFOs? That sis actually one thing I could get on board with! 😁

but stuff I think is bonkers include birds not being real, some people seem to think they’re little robots.

the chemtrail conspiracy.

moon landings being fake.

Preppercorn · 26/06/2026 18:09

I think I agree that the crazy batshit out there ones are probably “planted” to discredit the plausible ones (that turn out to be true), and so “intelligent” (self-congratulatory) people can feel superior to those “idiots”. Sometimes they are very successful like that year or so when they spectacularly shut down any opposition to the government’s covid approach which should have been scrutinised by a diligent labour party and press, and then swiftly rushed the inquiry through before people could get perspective/distance or any new important details could emerge. Sometimes they are unsuccessful eg Joe Biden.
The craziest one I ever heard was that the Earth is hollow and full of a whole civilisation of serpents. Pretty sure that was the Water Troll on here but I’ve heard it IRL.

This is quite an entertaining book: Dom Joly - The Conspiracy Tourist

That looks good.

Silverbirchleaf · 26/06/2026 18:13

A have a friend who goes on about chem trails. Plus she wants to cash so you can’t be tracked electronically. Had arguments with ex- work colleague about 15 minute towns a couple of years back. Some people have too much time on their hands.

Haha I know what you mean! Horses, wild camping, amazing thunderstorms and then BAM! 'health aids' of a dubious, not to say anatomically challenging, nature. WTF? 😂

During Covid, I fell down a little bit of a rabbit hole - following a couple of Covid denier influencers and just couldn’t believe some of the stuff they’d post.
Flat earthers
Holocaust didn’t happen
Suncream cause cancer

Can’t remember now but there were so many more and some were just wild!

Never got to the bottom of why we are lied to about the fact dinosaurs didn’t exist
But I remember seeing a similar photo posted as ‘evidence’ which did make me chuckle …

Edited

In fairness, I have pigeons and those pics are surprisingly accurate in terms of positioning!

XenoBitch · 26/06/2026 20:40

I have not looked into it myself, but I met a bloke who was convinced the band Red Hot Chilli Peppers predicted world events in their lyrics.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 26/06/2026 20:49

No conspiracy theories have turned out to be true.

As just one example that’s been mentioned on this thread, how on earth can doubts about Biden’s mental state have been a conspiracy theory?

No conspiracy theories have turned out to be true

This isn't accurate.

Both COINTELPRO and MKUltra had people making allegations for decades, they were always dismissed as cranks and lunatics, both turned out to be very much real and the "theorists" telling the truth.

Silverbirchleaf · 26/06/2026 22:53

As an aside, love the film ‘Conspiracy Theory’ with Mel Gibson.

It had to be made clear in the courts that found in their favour that victims of the Contaminated Blood scandal and Post Office scandal were not conspiracy theorists - because generally that is how State operators and their lawyers had branded them; it's the first port of call. Other examples too, such as the Hillsborough families. Really, we are talking allegations of cover-ups and so it's going to happen.

One of my best friends actually said this to me while we were out to dinner. I just looked at her like 😳 and so she quickly changed the subject.

I thought for ages that dinosaurs were just made up, I mean how do they know what colour they were for example?
It took quite a bit of solid evidence (bones found etc) before I reluctantly accepted they probably did exist.

The conspiracy theory about a network of elites being involved in trafficking and abusing children turned out to be true.

Neither of those were conspiracy theories any more than the Manhattan Project or the activities of MI5 were (and are) conspiracy theories. Bad as they were, they weren’t about conspiracies but about covert activities.

TheBabyFatmoss · 26/06/2026 23:17

@NorthFaceofthelaundrypile I’ve always said pandas aren’t real! They’re not biologically feasible 😂

SaveMeFromTheWhale · 26/06/2026 23:18

and the conspiracy theory that Covid 19 came from a lab leak is now taken very seriously.

A challenge in court doesn’t become a conspiracy theory because the claimants win. Terrible, terrible cases, of course, but not conspiracy theories.

A conspiracy theory needs a cover up, but cover ups do not equal conspiracy theories.

That was never a conspiracy theory. It was a theory, and a perfectly plausible one. The last smallpox death in the UK was from a lab leak. There’s no conspiracy theory there.

Do you mean Epstein? How was that a conspiracy theory? Any more than Savile or Gary Glitter. It’s just horrible criminality.

OK so any conspiracy theories that turn out to be true, you are just going to say they weren’t conspiracy theories in the first place? Great tactic. Convincing.

GOATYOAT · 26/06/2026 23:38

Any references for any old CT that were PROVED to be true?

It’s a lot more convincing than pointing to anything unusual or surprising and claiming it’s proof of the truth of conspiracy theories.

Some people love to keep the possibility of truth in ludicrous conspiracy theories going because it makes the whole nonsense so much more exciting.
