I thought I had managed to curate a lovely instagram algorithm, meadows, wildlife, horses, country gardens all peaceful and calm. I’ve no idea what happened but last night it was rudely interrupted with many videos about project blue beam, holographic images of a spaceship and clones. I mean I’d love to see an actual UFO but these things are batshit.

Now I’m intrigued by conspiracy theories, I can’t believe there are folks who have so much belief in some of them.

I'm totally up for the world being flat and for everything being like a video game à la Matrix. The latter helped my fucked up head with studying politics just after having left the intifada in Israel. Not that I was a part of it, I'd just left the country as it was kicking off.

I have so many questions...!

Maddest one I know of is that Finland, the country, is not real. I’ve been there myself many times, or at least I think I have.

But it’s worth saying that a lot of things we now know to be true were brushed off as conspiracy theories and especially since Covid (definitely real but left a lot of people feeling disenfranchised and spending far too long online) people are more susceptible to believing them. Very recently, it was apparently a mean conspiracy theory that Biden had dementia and wasn’t up to the job. I mean, clearly anyone with ears or eyes could see him and knew it was true but were repeatedly told he was fine and it was all lies. Likewise the Epstein files.

There’s a page on Wikipedia about conspiracies which turned out to be true, I can’t remember the name but if you go down this route of looking into conspiracies I wouldn’t recommend reading it as there’s stuff on there I really wish I hadn’t read because I can’t forget it. You’re probably made of sterner stuff than me!

Why did the whole "Finland isn't real" things start? I'm convinced half this stuff as people just trolling.

Joe DiMaggio was behind the Kennedy murders because he blamed them for killing Marilyn Monroe. Joe DiMaggio did have connections to the Italian mob and he did by all accounts adore Marilyn and hated the Kennedies. 🤷‍♀️

My favourite conspiracies are both Kennedy-related.

When he made his pledge to put a man on the moon, he assumed the CIA and NASA would just conspire to fake it, but due to the cost of keeping it covered up and the inability to figure out how to dupe the Soviets and Chinese, they decided to just do it for real because it was the cheaper option.

Also, there was no assassination in Dallas. Pressure of Office just got too much for him and his head exploded.

During lockdown I was furloughed as i worked for Virgin as cabin crew. Husbsnd still worked as he was nignt time security in a prison.
I got very very into the controversial side of 9/11. I watched loads of conspiracy theories on it. Left absolutely baffled by it all but wss vrry interesting to watch.

I’m not sure how I feel about Pandas. I’m always surprised there’s not a panda based conspiracy.
I would not be shocked at all if I woke up to find out that China has invented pandas as an early attempt at soft power around the globe!
They behave like toddlers, have no interest in mating, are they really the product of natural evolution? Not exactly survival of the fittest territory 🤷🏻‍♀️

There is an old conspiracy theory that Paul McCartney died young and they brought in a double. I spent hours reading about this, it's fascinating even though you know it's bollocks.

I actually met someone who went to a flat earth event

After much pressure (buy other colleagues in the pub) he admitted that he didn't actually believe it, but he said the events are fun. And I said "so does everyone walk around pretending they believe it?" and he said "well that's what I do."

I think that's probably one reason why I think these people are just trolling.

but I think it gets pretty serious when it's personal. Is that partly why Benedict Cumberbatch moved to the US? I know there was a horrible Facebook group arguing that his wife had pressured him into something and that the children weren't real

There's also a conspiracy theory that the ridiculous CTs like the 'Finland doesn't exist' and 'birds are actually robots that charge by sitting on telegraph wires' ones are deliberately promulgated to distract CTists and discredit the whole idea of CTs to take the heat off the ones that are true.

If I insisted to you that the moon is genuinely made of cheese, the royals are actually reptiles rather than human and David Kelly's death was not a genuine accident, would you deduce from that that I was a wise critical thinker or a looney nutcase?

As well as the CTs that were dismissed in history but were later found and proven to be true, I always find it interesting how many people will instantly dismiss as obviously ridiculous absolutely any theory that goes against what the UK, USA and other western governments tell us - you know, the same ones that have been caught with their pants on fire after swearing blind to a 'truth' multiple times in history; but then will assume that anything that comes officially from the governments of China. Russia, Iran and others must by default be a lie designed to deceive us all!
