To report these supermarket workers?

thetimeisnow · 17/06/2026 12:24

As I walked past some supermarket workers, they were having a chat, one said
' i couldnt tell if it was a man or woman'
Then another said ' we have one of them where i live'

I think it was inappropriate.

But am I over thinking and being unreasonable?!

Report them for having a chat that does not affect you in any way, wind your neck in.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 17/06/2026 12:54

and would you have been happy if this person decided to use the woman's toilets before leaving the supermarket ?

Ok, im fine with being told to get a hobby.

Like porkpieforstarters said, it is nasty and if it did hit personally I would be sad that people can say it and out loud in a busy supermarket.

I would ask tesco manager to re do the training about inclusion.

The thing about workplace training about ‘inclusion’ is that it doesn’t necessarily mention what these workers were talking about. (Maybe Tesco does, I wouldn’t know, are we even talking about Tesco?) Even if it did, you can’t stop people having their own opinions and beliefs you disagree with on the topic. If their workplace says they shouldn’t be talking about that on the shop floor then fair enough, but maybe they didn’t realise anyone was close enough to overhear.

HelpMeGetThrough · 17/06/2026 12:55

Inclusion training. Jesus Christ, that’s just a work mandatory training tickbox exercise for many.

People can never just say what they bloody think anymore without some muppet wanting to report them.

OvernightBloats · 17/06/2026 12:56

Why would you report them for doing this? Did you hear the whole conversation?

Moonmelodies · 17/06/2026 13:00

Have you logged it with 101?

HedgehogHome · 17/06/2026 13:03

If the person they were chatting about considered themself to be ‘non-binary’ then it would be a compliment surely.

Lomonald · 17/06/2026 13:03

What are you going to do if the "furries" come in and they speak about them? Inclusion?

BellaBobandBernietoo · 17/06/2026 13:09

I have often walked past shop workers having conversations which probably shouldn't be made on the shop floor but would I go reporting it and risk the possibility of them getting the sack? No, I just get on with my day because I have far more to concern myself with than a bit of overheard tittle-tattle.

Move on.

SerendipityCat · 17/06/2026 13:10

Speaking as an ex-Tesco shelfstacker (20-odd years ago, but the experience is seared into my very soul) - Jesus Christ, get a life. The job is hard enough as it is - and it was the most physically demanding work I’ve ever done - without being hauled into the office and investigated for something so trivial.

I wish I was joking about this, but I was once reported for apparently speaking too loudly to a colleague and intimidating an elderly lady who happened to be walking past. A full investigation ensued, a full week of extra stress for me, and I ended up with a verbal warning.

It was a fucking awful place to work even then, and I hear it’s not got any better.
Don’t make it more difficult for the staff than it needs to be.

There’s none of that nonsense at the supermarket I work in thankfully.

PilotingAWail · 17/06/2026 13:11

The only thing I've ever complained about in a supermarket is the cashier clipping his finger nails, at the check out I was putting my shopping on 🤮
I cannot imagine being arsed to report a conversation that was not directed at me or about me.
Opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one!

I’m confused - training in not speaking the truth? You want people to lie to make you feel comfortable?

Who cares what random strangers think? If I heard someone say something insulting about me I'd shrug and go on with my day. People need to grow a thicker skin.

takealettermsjones · 17/06/2026 13:15

Maybe they meant

"I didn't know if [the abstract sculpture I saw in my local museum yesterday] was a man or a woman [but I'm so glad the curator explained to me so that I could use its proper pronouns]."

"We have one of them [museums] where I live [and I'm so glad the curator of yours is so inclusive, I'm going to nominate her for an MBE]."

Augarden · 17/06/2026 13:15

Trying to get people fired for being un-pc is actually pretty nasty behaviour.

You don't get training about working with people with disabilities or anything?

So you want to curb free speech and ‘retrain’ the wrong opinions ? Wow.

youalright · 17/06/2026 13:18

They're human beings not robots get on with your own life and stop listening in on other peoples conversations. I've only ever put one complaint in, In my whole life and that was against a dr who almost killed me that is where my bar is set when it comes to risking other people's livelihoods

Backedoffhackedoff · 17/06/2026 13:18

I’m actually sort of furious that in this day and age with the cost of living crisis and unemployment rising you’d “report” (what do you think Tesco managers are, the police?) minimum wage workers likely working harder than you for far less for a conversation you only heard part of. You are an awful person OP.

HighHeelsRedLips · 17/06/2026 13:18

Stop earwiggiing on other peoples conversations and find something else better to do !
