It feels like we're being slowly prepared for her passing away. I feel unexpectedly tearful.

Plenty of people on MN have influential contacts/jobs etc. Gossip spreads incredibly quickly through the system. It’s not an “official secret”. It’s just matter of protocol how slowly the general public gets told

I thought that too, but I understand from protocol an announcement won't be made until all the family are together. So it doesn't rule out her already being dead.

I’m a nobody but heard about my work gearing up for Operation Unicorn on Tuesday which was the first I had ever heard of it. I was surprised to see her with Liz Truss on the back of this and assumed it was hyperbole but evidently not.

Honestly - the window cleaners do know. So do the cleaners and the canteen staff.

it’s not like the good ole days when the Royal family were treated like, well, Royalty. No one cares about spreading what they know. And with mobiles and social media nothing is sacred.

So many people would be involved and impacted by 'Operation London Bridge' that it's impossible to keep it a secret, even if people aren't told directly:

• servicemen/women will have leave cancelled
• comms people will be asked to update websites/ prepare statements
• meetings and events for the days ahead will be cancelled
• royal 'experts' will be called upon for comment/ news
• civil servants/ diplomats will have duties to carry out

I think she has been very unwell for a while but knew in her head she wanted to get to the change over of PM. She had that date as a goal and now she succeeded she might feel like she rest.

I've seen it with family members who were dying. They had a special date, one an anniversary , another a birthday, and once that date passed there was a quick decline.

I wish her a peaceful death surrounded by love.
