If your goal is to look slim, fit and athletic but not super skinny

Thanks

Having been morbidly obese most of my adult life (heaviest weight was over 18 stone - 115kg for you youngsters who do metric), I am delighted to be under 11 stone at the age of 56 (height is 5'8").

Having lost so much weight I am now trying strength training to build muscle tone, hence lurking round the weights room.

What really strikes me is the difference in clothes size at different weights. I am a 12/14 on top and 10/12 bottoms.

I’m 5ft8 and a half 🤣

8 3/4 stone is my ideal but I’d risen to 9.5, my heaviest was 11 stone when heavily pregnant.

I’m 5’7, weigh between 9st and 9st 4 on any given Saturday depending on where I am in my cycle. 9st 1 today.
i look good at this weight, slim, toned but not skinny or scrawny. My face suffers below 9st i think. Currently feeling energised and lifting well at the gym alongside my regular swimming and reformer Pilates (the Pilates has been amazing for so many things!).
It’s a balance though and has taken me a while to fine tune it all.

I’m a smidge under 5’9 and I weigh 9 stone 6. A great weight for me although I’d like to be 9 stone.

Obviouslynotallthere · 03/10/2026 18:24

I’m 5’9 currently 12 stone aged 60. Size 14 in most things. Could do with being half a stone lighter.

5 8 and just under 10 stone at the moment and feel pretty okay. In a size 10 which is my happy place

wheresmyshoe · 03/10/2026 20:50

I’m currently 10st 12 and look my best at 10st 3 as I barely carry any muscle. Someone strong at 10st 12 would look very different

hippospot · 03/10/2026 21:11

5'8.5"
70kg. I think that's about 11 stone
Size 12
It's my heaviest ever but I do strength training so I'm quite muscular. I have a large frame and my lightest adult weight was 62kg at which point friends and family told me I looked gaunt.
I'd have to starve myself to wear size 10 again and I don't think that's healthy at my age, 52. My goal is building bone and muscle for longevity.

5ft 9 and currently 10st 2lb size 12

id like to get to around 9st 6lb and hope that some of my tummy fat disappeared

This is such a good case in point to illustrate an earlier PP's point.

I'm 5'6. When I was 9st 6 I was a size 8 and looked very skinny around my upper body, lost my boobs and had a pretty flat stomach (still "strong" thighs/bum of course) but everyone was commenting I was too skinny.

People carry weight in different ways so a good weight for one isn't necessarily a good weight for someone else.

How is that possible? What dress size are you?

I’m 5”8 and 8 stone 9, 46 years old and assume menopausal (no period for 6ish years). Small size 8. Very lean, low body fat, muscle definition. I swim, run and lift. Eat a high protein/fibre diet, but can’t skimp carbs either particularly around long runs. I probably look too thin, but seem to have settled at this weight and am the strongest and fittest I’ve ever been.
