Not, caught something out the corner of your eye or felt a presence, I mean actually seen one, spoken to one etc?

im aware this sounds woo. I don’t think I do believe in them, never seen one but ppl I have spoken to say they have.

maybe some ppl are more receptive to these things or maybe it’s a trick of the mind?

just be interested in anyones experience really

Yes I have.

At 19 I awoke in the night to an elderly woman ‘ghost’ in my doorway. I heard a key in the lock first. I wondered if I had seen a ghost then. Some years later I read about the phenomenon of sleep paralysis and I thought that’s ok then. I have always been on the logical science side. However, since my dad died, I have had some unusual things happen which made me think he could be communicating with me. I tell myself that can’t be.
The older I get the more open I am to the fact that not everything is known.

No, they don't exist

Yes, they do.

No. They don’t exist.

People that have seen them
a. Believe in them
b. Imagine them.

Rubbish. I've seen one. Totally, absolutely, definitely seen one. Not my imagination.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 10/02/2026 21:42

Yes I have

I know somebody who saw one in his house. He's the most un-woo person you could ever come across.

Gettingbysomehow · 10/02/2026 21:46

Id love to, Ive stayed at numerous haunted sites and gone on loads of ghostly adventures including a night on my own in Boleskine graveyard, once the home of Aleister Crowley but Ive seen nothing.
Im a believer but they don't like me clearly.

Yemelade · 10/02/2026 21:54

Yes.

Though "see" I haven't. Never seen a person or creature or thing. I have seen a really wobbly shadow that's moved along with coldness and possible "actions" that I can't otherwise explain.

My first flat I lived alone above a bookies. It was a bad area, so I was always scared I'd be broken into as a single woman. At least twice a week I'd wake up at 3am with a dry coldness in my upper body, and an indent on my bed. Usually with a really black shadow in the corner of room that felt like it was waiting for me to move. It freaked me out so much that I was often frozen in fear, and the incidents quickly increased in bith intensity and severity. It wasn't long until I couldnt get back to sleep after waking, and one time I wet the bed in fear. Sometimes, I'd hear what i thought were child's nursery rhymes and xylophone style noises but very faintly. I explained this to a uni friend, a total none believer. She convinced me that 3am was "witching hour" and most people with anxiety wake at that time. I also had a cat who could have left the indent on my bed, and her body leaving the bed caused the cooling. She also told me the machines downstairs in the bookies were probably the reason for the noises. After speaking with her, everything almost stopped overnight. Still heard chilling music on occasion, but mostly managed to go back to sleep without being in total fear. I thought it was all in my head.

Then, I had an issue with my gas and Electric and had to pop into bookies to do something with MPAN numbers. When I was in there, I asked them if they would consider turning machines off at night due to them occasionally waking me up. Shop assistant laughed and said they were turned off every night at 10pm. That weekend, my boyfriend visited and stayed the night. He woke up at 3am and asked me if I could hear anything. Sure enough, an extremely slowed dow /cautiously played "pop goes the weasel" tune. The same tune I had heard for months but couldn't identify the song.

Other things:

  • cat would start down hallway and let out low growls
  • when flat was locked and just me home, knife on kitchen bench would be standing up on chopping board (pointy bit in the wood) and I know I didn't leave it that way.
  • had a landline then. Would ring friends or boyfriend and all of a sudden phone would go dead. Wire to phone port would be out (explained this one away due to having a cat, but it happened several times with her asleep next to me).
  • things falling on the floor usually in the night without any specific reason, again when my cat was next to me.

I've never had any other experiences until 15 years later when I moved into my current home. Realised after, the man who lived here years back sexually abused his children here. I dont feel any negative energy now but at the beginning it felt so overwhelming. Nothing bad actually happened, I just felt a bad energy.

I was sitting alone in a pub garden next to Basing House, a Royalist stronghold during the civil war, waiting for DH to bring lunchtime drinks. I watched as a cavalier walked down the centre of the empty road, stopped, took off his hat and made a sweeping bow in my direction.
I wasn't alarmed because I had been to several Cavalier v Roundhead reenactments as a child. When my DH came out of the pub I told him what had happened and suggested we should go to the upcoming re enactment. He went back into the pub to ask when it was taking place, It wasn't! The landlord was delighted that I had seen the local ghost.

You've just reminded me - a friend of mine who used to live in St Albans saw a Roman soldier (of some description) weirdly with no legs, 'walking' across
Verulamium Park (probably spelled that incorrectly).

Yemelade · 10/02/2026 22:06

No, but that's creepy! It was a flat on a street called parliament road near central Middlesbrough. Above William Hill. Did a quite a bit of goggling and asking neighbours if they knew last occupants or stories of who lived there etc. I got nothing.

ImPamDoove · 10/02/2026 22:10

Why do ghosts never appear in contemporary dress - jeans and a tshirt, for example? Maybe they have a fancy dress department in the afterlife 😂

It’s all very silly.

I used to laugh at this, but the internet says sometimes spirits apparently need hundreds of years to gain enough spiritual energy to be able to show themselves. You won't see jeans and t-shirts on ghosts for another few hundred years yet!

Did you read my earlier post? My ghost did!

Also, to add - if you see someone in old- style clothing, you clock them. Someone in a hoodie and jeans - you don't give them a second glance. You could be seeing ghosts in contemporary dress every day and not register it. I only registered my contemporary-dress ghost because he disappeared.

Would you be able to tell a bit about this? We have family folklore connected to a ghost sighting near a bridge over the Wye Valley. Would be interesting to see if its the same one!

@ELCismyspiritnana . Sorry this particular ghost is no where near a bridge. It crosses a road and disappears before reaching the other side. I haven't seen it personally and I hope I never do... Come to think of it I haven't heard of any ghosts in the Wye Valley. It might be worth googling it to see if there is anything

What about the cases in hospitals where clinical staff have seen the spirits of recently departed patients - they weren't cos-playing as vikings, they were in the clothes they wore on the ward.

Except they weren’t, were they? Perhaps the medics were tired and delirious. No-one is seeing dead people walking around.

Well you're welcome to say that to them and assume you know better.

Orange juice.

Yes . Very often .

SMM2020 · 10/02/2026 22:26

Haven’t seen a ghost myself but my Mum and me had a very rare evening out together on one of her works Christmas dos. Was at the bar and this man approached us - he was a bit sheepish but said he didn’t want to come across strange but wanted to ask if we knew someone - he described my Dad including his height, build, hair colour, texture etc even down to his accent and knew how he died - we don’t discuss my Dad so there was no chance he had earwigged on a private conversation. He said he had to approach us as he said my Dad had an arm over each of us and was so happy we were getting along (sometimes volatile relationship with my Mum). Freaked me out if I’m honest but you can’t fake what he said and did. So whilst I didn’t see it, I definitely believe now.

Ridiculousradish · 10/02/2026 22:28

I have seen orbs of light flitting about at my old workplace. Same place I heard someone running up the stairs from the cellar, but no one was there. Heard footsteps upstairs in an old house I lived in, I was the only one there. Detached, so wasn't next door.

Bitsandbobs2 · 10/02/2026 22:30

My grandparents used to Iive in the house which was a war hospital during WW2. I used to see them all the time as a child (I was 4-5 years old). My grandparents were very relaxed, they knew what's going on but they were not scared. Few years later they sold this house for a young couple with 4 kids and they contacted my grandparents shortly after moving in as their kids were constantly saying that they saw someone. This couple still lives there, I actually met them last summer (they are in their 50's, grown up kids).

And I used to work in very famous 5* hotel in London- management had an entire collection of videos from night shift-moving glasses, chairs, etc. I did night shifts occasionally and we never checked gym at basement at the night. It was the most scary place, I literally saw things moving with my own eyes. Staff on night shift used to rotate every few weeks because of this. They started to pay double for night staff and still struggled . It was an antique table in one of the suites. Hotel guests used to complain that it moves at the night.

TheBeatenGeneration · 10/02/2026 22:33

I remember tuning into local radio in the 90's in the middle of the night. And it was all light-hearted, there was a phone in: 'have you seen a ghost'. And a chap came on, all quite serious. As he described his mundane account he burst into 'and then there was this fucking great banshee'. It was pretty compelling, but sadly he got cut off. I never got to hear his story.
