Not, caught something out the corner of your eye or felt a presence, I mean actually seen one, spoken to one etc?

im aware this sounds woo. I don’t think I do believe in them, never seen one but ppl I have spoken to say they have.

maybe some ppl are more receptive to these things or maybe it’s a trick of the mind?

just be interested in anyones experience really

We have something in the house and our pub, I’ve seen the man in the house as has dh, df and dad. I’ve not seen a thing in the pub but have had several reports of a man smoking on a fire escape. Nobody there and nothing on camera. I have smelled smoke upstairs in the pub but I’m unsure if it is because of everyone talking about it. Our last home / pub had a shadowy thing at the top of the stairs, seen by several people including me. Gave me a really unsettled feeling.

As a child, both my brother and myself saw an elderly man in our garden, we lived in a prefab built in the grounds of an old house. The man was quite short and wearing a brown coat. When I saw him my mother drew the curtain and said he was just looking for gardening work. Years later my mum admitted that they believed he was a ghost as there was no way he could have got in and out of our garden without walking right past our living room window, but he didn’t. He just disappeared. They had also seen him in the same area of the garden. It sounds mad even as I type it.

Luckyingame · 10/02/2026 16:52

No, but when I had norovirus, I saw all the saints at one point.

when I was in my teenage years I caught myself mumbling in my sleep, as I woke I saw a dark hooded figure (dementor looking thing!) at the side of my bed mocking me I was absolutely terrified and frozen! I closed my eyes and when I opened them again it was gone. Ive seen plenty of mediums after my mothers passing and all have been spot on

No I haven’t but when I was a child we had a Labrador and when my dad used to walk towards a certain small pond she wouldn’t walk past it. There was stories that a horse and cart went in the pond and somebody drowned a very long time ago. She would freeze and growl. The pond is still there and it looks very eerie, lots of trees fallen into it and horrible black water, looks really spooky to this day. I think animals do pick up on things that we can’t

They do!

This reminds me of when I was around 12, walking our Dalmatians with my mum and dad. One was fine but one suddenly went all weird - ears pricked, looking alert and worried - she was giving this very old looking farm-type building a wide berth (she wasn't generally a nervy dog either!). My mum and dad explained to me that it was once an abattoir! She definitely sensed it. The other one couldn't care less so I guess, much like us, some are sensitive to it, and some aren't. I'm not but I kinda wish I was😄

You've just reminded me about our 'silver man'. In a former house there was me, my mum, my nana, our friend Jim and his dog Bingo (actually can't remember the dog's name sorry, so this is a pseudonym, but he was a lovely Welsh collie).

We were all in kitchen chatting and suddenly Bingo, who had been happily padding about the room, going up to us in turn for head scratches, suddenly lay down very low on the floor and started growling and bearing his teeth. It was so out of character. He was facing the backdoor. So we all turned to see what it could be. Suddenly a silver man - no other way of describing it - it was a man but glowing silver, came sprinting past the kitchen window and back door.

My mum opened the back door to see where he had gone and our back gate was closed - in fact locked shut - she was at the gate in seconds, there was no way he could have opened it and escaped in that time. We all went out through the gate into the front garden which was very open plan and you could see both ways down the street for quite a way. Nothing and no one.

So where did he go and how did he get into the back garden to run past the window in the first place as it was completely enclosed by fencing and the locked garden gate was the only way in and out.

I have drawn an incredibly crappy diagram in case my narrative doesn't paint a clear enough picture. Sorry that Bingo looks like he is sticking out his tongue and the silver man looks like he's doing a Paula Radcliffe mid-run (he didn't - I don't even know if silver men go to the toilet!)

Has anyone actually seen a ghost
Moederbuffly · 10/02/2026 18:16

Yes, on several occasions ,but the one I remember most vividly was when I was about 13. Our family had been friends with an elderly neighbour who has sadly died a few years earlier, we inherited a huge old bow fronted chest of drawers that my sister and I shared. I awoke one night to the smell of moth balls and the sound of shuffling and I saw our darling neighbour walk (shuffle) across our bedroom floor and he opened the top right draw of the (his) chest of drawers, where I had stuffed all my bits in. I just accepted it, but the next day, I felt so ashamed at how untidy my drawer was that I cleaned it out. I know what I heard, saw and smelled

CurlewKate · 10/02/2026 18:26

No. And neither has anyone else. Because they don’t exist. I have however, had dreams, seen optical illusions and shadows, heard animals in the roof, had hallucinations, heard doors and windows rattling, felt/heard a new or very old house settle, felt unsettled because I have an over vivid imagination…

38thparallel · 10/02/2026 18:29

There was a thread on here ages ago about a women who rented an office in a former mill in Essex. All sorts of weird things kept happening but eventually the thread was pulled as it was too outing.
I was disappointed when it was removed as it was fascinating.

CurlewKate · 10/02/2026 18:30

And as a small child I was terrified by and terrified my family about a “green man” nobody else could see in the pantry. Turned out to be a person shaped splash of green paint under a shelf at child’s eye level. If we had moved before my mother suddenly thought to get down to my level, we’d still be telling the story of our haunted house deep in the Devon countryside….

CompetitionMyArse · 10/02/2026 18:30

Seen one, no. But I'm pretty convinced I've heard a couple.

Gotback · 10/02/2026 18:56

I didn't believe in ghosts til I saw one. Someone else I was with saw her too. It was a little girl in an old house in Spain. The atmosphere in the place was frightening anyway, before we saw her, so I told myself it was just this atmosphere that was making me jumpy. But then the other person saw her and described her appearance exactly as i had seen her. And when we got home, we talked to the owner who said "well, nothing's happened like that for about 10 years but when we were doing the place up...." and went on to relate various incidents including sightings, sounds & being touched. I have never been so scared in my life & wouldn't go back there if you paid me.

SheepInTheTrough · 09/02/2026 21:04

Gosh, that does sound unnerving. Did your friend see her too?

Yep :)

TofuTuesday · 10/02/2026 19:26

@Fernticketno Kent, I was visiting family so heard tales all the time!

singlepringle12 · 10/02/2026 19:28

Yes, twice.

Once in a pub I worked in - I was the only person in the building and a lady walked past the doorway.

Second time - driving down a road at night. As I went round the corner my headlights lit up a figure in the road, I saw it & slammed on the breaks, my passenger saw it as he cried out at the same moment. Drove ‘through’ the person. Stopped, looked back, nothing there.
100% am not ‘mad’ and did not imagine both of these. My aunt is v connected to the spiritual world.

Fernticket · 10/02/2026 16:17

Was this in the Forest of Dean by any chance? We have something similar on a road near me.

Would you be able to tell a bit about this? We have family folklore connected to a ghost sighting near a bridge over the Wye Valley. Would be interesting to see if its the same one!

ThisSharpShaker · 10/02/2026 20:10

Not seen any myself. DH is convinced he has seen them and he doesn't seem the sensitive type to have the experience, so who knows?

I have used an ouija board which worked. To cut a long story short it was the gift of my friends granny and only worked when my friend was there. The cup flew backwards with only my friends hand on it so she wasn’t pushing it. It told her who she would marry, which she did. I will never ever play it again, it was very frightening.

Izzyupyet · 10/02/2026 20:29

Dreams. Often when in a dreamlike state we see things we think are real, many states of consciousness - whats real to you is real!

MoonWoman69 · 10/02/2026 20:35

Yes a couple of times. But then I was brought up around spiritualism, so I'm open to them and not closed off like the people who just jump on a thread to declare they don't exist!

Wolverine23 · 10/02/2026 20:41

Me personally, no but my husbands nan and her brother were driving down a lane and stopped because they saw a carriage coming really fast and don’t know what to do, and it went straight through them and disappeared. Normally I’d be like ok if someone told me that, she’s not usually a believer or even remotely woo and definitely not a liar, neither have health issues and both saw exact same think, and both claim to this day they have no logical explanation for it. When She talks about she never changes her story. It’s never happened again when she goes down the same road but looks out for it lol She’s absolutely convinced it happened

utterly bizarre

Pigeoncomehome · 10/02/2026 21:01

I woke up in the middle of the night and saw a figure at the bottom of my bed, it was wearing a white cloak and hovering about 1 metre off the floor. I was not dreaming and I had not been drinking, I learnt some time later my father had died.

Pigeoncomehome · 10/02/2026 21:05

On Blue Hill near Wrotham in Kent many have witnessed seeing people on horse back then only to disappear.

RS1987 · 10/02/2026 21:07

No, but I’ve heard them and seen things being moved by them and I’ve felt their presence like someone standing behind me and I turn round and no one is there. My sister hears them like me and my parents have both seen them.
