Not, caught something out the corner of your eye or felt a presence, I mean actually seen one, spoken to one etc?

im aware this sounds woo. I don’t think I do believe in them, never seen one but ppl I have spoken to say they have.

maybe some ppl are more receptive to these things or maybe it’s a trick of the mind?

just be interested in anyones experience really

August 2019 about 7.00pm in a restaurant, sitting at a round table, my mother, husband, daughter and me, in that order. We had just got menus and a ‘column
Of smoke’ appeared between my husband and daughter. It was like the smoke you get when a candle has been blown out but much, much bigger. Both my husband and I saw it and looked at each other puzzled. My mother and daughter didn’t see it. There was no fire or candles as I looked around where we were sitting. We never mentioned it that evening and didn’t talk about it until the next morning when my husband asked me what it was we had seen. It sort of coiled upwards and then disappeared. What was strange is that we didn’t talk about it or mention but just looked at each other at the time.

I had a similar experience in a very old pub in central Bristol.

I was waiting in the corridor for DH who had gone to the gents when this cloud of black smoke came down the corridor towards me. I stepped back quickly and it brushed past, turned right into one of the bar rooms (empty) and disappeared.

I’ve been speaking to a few friends on FB recently we all went to an old convent school in a gothic building. They mentioned the sick Bay Area which was at the top of the school but I think seemed more modern than the rest of the church. They just said when they were there separately they’d heard footsteps when no one was around and seen a shadowy figure come along the corridor and vanish. I never saw or heard anything.

A few experiences.

I’d started a new job in Barbican. Went out for lunch near Smithfield market one day and felt this very strange feeling almost ethereal, like a vision sort of thing. Walked round the corner and saw the William Wallace plaque and later learned Smithfield had been the site of burnings executions. Had no idea of this before.

second, was in a pub called Ye Olde Cheshire cheese in city area. Went to toilet in basement with my friend. As I was in the toilet I feel a very threatening presence, like someone was going to harm me, it was so bad I told my friend not to leave me there by myself.

Third experience, in Canterbury visiting friends, she was working or we went together, to a sort of grain store but they had events like poetry readings, music there. Old place. Again in toilets suddenly got this strange feeling of threat and danger like someone would do you harm. Couldn’t leave quick enough. Posted about it here and was told its Conquest House, where knights Templar met before murdering Archbishop of Canterbury. Googled it and it was true.

My DM is more woo than me and so is my best friend. I’ve never seen anything apart from orbs with DB when we were kids. We just played with them. In that house, family Victorian house my DM would often smell a strong scent of flowers, when none were there and she didn’t wear perfume. A few years later in the unused attic which they never went into, they found a detailed picture prob Edwardian of orange flowers, antique presumably done by a woman in the house during that time. House dates from 1900. Floral scent went after that.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain I had exactly the same feeling in the toilets of Ye Olde Cheshire cheese pub...

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/04/2026 13:28

Oh yesterday was at DM’s house with DB clearing out his bedroom there. Found loads of old flowers from Edwardian/victorian times. We are going to frame them and share them.

What did you see please @Lesina ?

Many people saw a hand moving in my previous house. It 'scurried' like a rat.

Several members of our family saw it and so did other visitors. A cleaner and the chimney sweep also saw it and they had no previous knowledge of it. All different times of day and night.

Everyone described it in exactly the same place, moving in exactly the same way.

Maybe it was a rat?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/04/2026 13:29

coloured Drawings of flowers I mean. Done by woman who lived there in olden days.

zowsoph · 19/04/2026 13:34

I don't believe in ghosts or the supernatural but as a student I lived in a house where I and my housemates saw and heard things we couldn't explain. After we moved out the house went on the market, was sold, got totally done up in the new owners personal style for their family which I know because after about 9 months it was back on the market, it was bought by someone and again back on the market within months. Apparently there was nothing wrong structurally with the property either. I see it's no longer there and have been knocked down for a new development still being built.

I don't know what but there was something wrong with that house and it seems we weren't the only one's to think so.

But you still don't believe in the supernatural 🤔

zowsoph · 19/04/2026 13:46

@Rhaidimiddim No I don't, I was studying a science subject and I am a very rational person. Maybe there was some other reason for the house to have caused all of us to have shared hallucinations both at the same and different times. I don't know. I have never encountered anything like that before or since and hope to never again.

Now it'll be interesting to see if the new builds on the same site carry the same energy.

I have a friend who bought her house off plan (2010) and it's the most active place I've ever been in. I actually wouldn't want to live in it myself and I'm not easily scared.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain I had exactly the same feeling in the toilets of Ye Olde Cheshire cheese pub...

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain I walked down the stairs to the loos the and started to feel dread straight away. I was alone down there, o I actually kept the half door open using the loo I was so uncomfortable being there. I couldn't wait to get out. It was a very oppressive feeling that make me feel almost unwell. I love the pub but I'll avoid going down to those toilets in the future.

I Googled it and seems we're not alone!!

Here are the specific details regarding hauntings in the toilet area and surrounding building:

  • Ghostly Woman in the Restroom: A female apparition is commonly reported by visitors in the ladies' toilets. There are varying theories on her identity, with suggestions ranging from a former barmaid to a mistress of Charles II.
  • The "Odd" Atmosphere: Many visitors and staff have described the pub's lower areas, where the toilets are located, as having an "odd" or uncomfortable atmosphere.
  • Other Hauntings: The pub’s hauntings are not limited to the restrooms. Staff have reported hearing footsteps and doors slamming in the dark, dank 13th-century cellars. Another frequent report is of a "disappearing" man seen in the Chop Room area.
  • Polly the Parrot: The ghost of a 20th-century pet parrot named Polly is also said to haunt the building, with staff reporting hearing her voice.

The tavern was rebuilt in 1667, just after the Great Fire of London, on the site of a 13th-century monastery, which provides the dark, historic atmosphere often associated with these paranormal reports

I was there on ironically a ghost walk but it was our first stop so had only had one drink.

Think I’ve heard of monks haunting the place.

Another place I’ve been is the Viaduct Tavern near the Old Bailey. Went downstairs (think also ghost tour) saw or heard nothing. But I wouldn’t be there alone, or work there!

Have never ever seen a ghost. Would like to.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 23/04/2026 10:16

Jesus Christ (sorry for blaspheming!) it’s in the toilets!

My friend I was with at the time is a lapsed Catholic (Irish origin) but experienced nothing and we both went to toilets together. I swear she thought I was mad. When I returned a few years later I bravely went to the toilets by myself or with a friend, and nothing, nada.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 23/04/2026 10:20

Ps. I don’t do ghost walks anymore. Nor Jack the Ripper ones. I worked for 6 years round the corner from the Ten Bells pub and we used to see Ripper tours all the time.

My experience comes from when i lived in East China and is a minor mystery that i find hard to explain.I lived in a standard looking towerblock from the 1950s in central Jiangxi which was a few kilometres from a nuclear power station and not too dilapidated to be spooky. The events i will outline occurred in the late evening of the day of Qingming (tomb sweeping festival) around 2018.After a normal evening out (a few Tsingdao only) i returned late in the evening near to midnight to my apartment alone. No chance of anyone else being present in the place and no pets/infestations/instruders...etc.I m a white European so i tend to get noticed and also had more advanced protection from the local security guards.
Now i knew something about the ground the apartments and university was built on,and it is quite a common thing in China. The whole area was a burial site and a very ancient and vast area of interment. Its public use dating back to at least the Ming dynasty. That day the usual fireworks and paper offerings were burnt around the bases of nearby electricity pylons and patches of ground by locals honouring the departed.I saw what was left of them on the way back to the apartment block after getting off the metro train.
Now i retired to bed asap that night, and i felt nothing unusual until a few minutes later and the kitchen light came outside my bedroom and i saw the line of light under the door.No noise just that light coming on.Strange and it startled me....and i junped up and looked at the switch and checked for intruders.Small kitchen area with a heavy bangy wood door still locked firmly. The switch had moved into the on position.I became a little alarmed but not really scared.I turned the light off and went back to bed, tried to settle.A few minutes the light came on again,i bounced up and into the kitchen.Again nothing amiss apart from the light switch and the light being on.It kept it happening and it was stopping me sleeping. It never occurred when i waited in the dark and observed the switch only when the door was closed.I did sleep at some point hours later and i never did get the lights looked at by an electrician and moved out at the end of the semester anyway. And it only occurred that evening and i still wonder about it.
