You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Sorry, not three kids sent home. The kids all sent.

www.expressandstar.com/news/education/2021/07/16/primary-school-closing-to-pupils-early-due-to-covid-outbreak/

My local news. And this is why my kids will be staying at home next week!

motherrunner · 16/07/2021 15:31

Have you seen the thread in AIBU from someone who WFH asking whether it would be reasonable to ask the neighbour’s kids to not play on the trampoline during office hours? My WFH neighbours are currently sunning themselves, if they asked me to keep my kids inside they’ll be getting a none to pleasant reply!

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/07/2021 16:21

Over 50,000 cases today and hospital admissions seems to have jumped up a bit too… the whole map on the dashboard in going blue and purple. Cannot believe they’re just losing all restrictions… this feels a bit like madness to me.

The news says about 2/3 of people going to carry on wearing masks and being sensible so I think the other third are on here shouting ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Everyone I know in real life going to continue to wear masks and be outside as much as possible when meeting up in the coming weeks. I’m so glad I’m not friends with twats4themselves types.

Saucery · 16/07/2021 16:42

Please allow me a small celebratory cartwheel across the kitchen as I am done. Phew!

I’m making a mental list of all the places that are still asking customers to wear masks/ keeping Covid-safe practices in place. Yarn shops….Booths…..Sainsbury’s (to an extent)…..Waitrose……my doggy daycare…..the vets…….
They will all be getting my custom. Places that don’t, won’t be.

It’s going to be Summer Of The Selfish Fuckers in many places.

We’ve finished today, practically promising all our children a return to normal in Sept. Whole school assemblies, the lot. But that’s a problem for 7 weeks time and I refuse to dwell on it.

I'm finished now. It felt very weird not to have kids in school today, so we were all sorting cupboards and putting up displays. The tests I was writing are finally finished (a huge amount of work!!!!). 60 staff were going to the local pub as an end of term party Hmm I'm sure that's going to look great to parents "we can't teach your kids today because of the infection risk but we can gather in a large group for a leaving do". Crazy!!!! For some reason I wasn't invited, can't imagine why Grin

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2021 17:05

I just came home to 3 men who didn't know how to inflate a pool so waited for me...

We went out for my friends leaving doo last Friday. 7 of us sat outside. 3 of us got pinged so had to isolate today. I felt so bad but have been sensible all year. You can't blame people for living again but 60 is a bit much. What a crap end. This time last year I didn't expect we would still be here. Silly me.

DH has an embarrassing pic (taken by me) of him reading the instructions to inflate a pool.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2021 17:20

Currently crossing my fingers and hoping I don’t get pinged by the app from the pubs/restaurants I’ve checked into over the last week.

If it happens before the other people at work have come out of isolation we are in trouble.

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/07/2021 17:22

I don't blame people for living again. I do think it's risky and very bad pr for the school to have 60 staff inside at a local pub. We had a leaving do for our maths TA today, 9 of us socially distanced outside the maths block having a buffet picnic. It was lovely, and it felt remarkably normal considering how weird the rest of the day was, but it definitely feels different to the do happening after school.

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 17:25

You don’t get a self-isolate ping for venue check-ins, Rafa

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2021 17:32

Thank goodness for that.

That sounds lovely. Sorry I didn't mean you said that. I am just touchy as I feel people are blaming usat my school. Probably over sensitive. I have missed one day due to isolating. Why do I feel so bad?

We didn't even go inside anywhere. Sad

Disappointing I’ve been checking in left right and centre hoping to get for last week of term 🤣🤣🤣
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2021 17:42

I’m not saying I wouldn’t welcome it given I’m currently doing the job of 5 people Grin just that it might be better if some of those people were back first.

phlebasconsidered · 16/07/2021 17:52

8 kids in my class off for testing today. Whether this is really a test or a pre holiday bunk I don't know. I have to cling on till THURSDAY and if we pop then my holiday is screwed. I think i might keep my own kids off. They finish Tuesday anyway.

I kept mine off to avoid spoiling our camping trip. She said they were justified watching movies anyway which is a fair point.
PumpkinPie2016 · 16/07/2021 18:45

I had another Y10 sent home today to isolate- down to 5 from 15 in that class nowShock

Had 6 missing from Y9 too.

2.5 days to go and it can't come soon enough.

Frlrlrubert · 16/07/2021 19:16

We've sent year 9 home today (again) and about 60 year 7s

The local primary closed early today (should be open until Wednesday I think)

MrsHamlet · 16/07/2021 19:28

I'm done. Discovered this morning that a very senior member of staff - who is leaving - had made a fuck up which affects something I'm responsible for. Managed to unfuck part of it but the rest will have to wait til September. They pretty much just shrugged. Knob.

WhenSheWasBad · 16/07/2021 19:29

We sent all of Year 10 home today. Rest of the school (what’s left). Limped through to the finish.

I’m so tired. I think I must have been running on fumes this last week.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/07/2021 20:17

Am wondering if there are any Y10s in school in the whole of the country! Ours went out yesterday, and more of our 7s went today.

Happy holidays to those who finished today! ☀️

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/07/2021 20:30

I've had my second wind. It usually arrives in the last week ready for me to get next term sorted. I've done the big clear out of paperwork and shredding, I've backed most of my boards and sorted out making my classroom a little simpler to look at, I've almost finished a plan for English (my share of the planning).. made the summer-work list. Just a couple more boards and my bookshelf to sort now.

Kids absolutely mental. Reports went out today, so there is going to be some fallout on Monday. I wrote really honest comments, they went through two members of SLT, yet the comments remained.

Meanwhile, partner is out to catch covid, so I've got a series of bollocks to watch on Netflix.

Congrats if you've finished. I'm jealous.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/07/2021 20:31

Our year 10s were sent home yesterday. Multiple positives in most classes. Same with the 7s
