You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Things are not exactly going to be better in August, either here or in Greece - as far as I can see!

Chris Whitty on a Science Museum webinar last night pointed out that things could get pretty scary again, pretty fast....

DreamingofBrie · 16/07/2021 08:46

I'm hoping the flight gets cancelled and we get our money back, tbh.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2021 08:47

That’s been bugging me for he last day or so, noble. Apparently the app has pinged 1/2 a million people in the last week. Which is apparently too many and a reason for adjusting the app or scrapping it. Nobody seems to have considered that the problem might be there are too many infections.

Did have to laugh at the quote from the developers though that was basically ‘the app’s fine, it’s working exactly as it should do’,

borntobequiet · 16/07/2021 08:53

I was going to look after the grandkids this weekend so DS and DDIL could have Sat afternoon and evening out and a lie-in Sun morning but he’s been pinged and will have to SI - so I’m not sure what’s going to happen now.
I’m lucky - unlike some of your parents - in that I’ve seen both my kids regularly except in full lockdown, and even then I saw DD via some strategic socially distanced weekly exercise, before support bubbles. After that we bubbled.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/07/2021 09:06

Ah, threads on here beginning to appear with “What’s happening in schools from Monday?” Most people not aware of the change to T&T, and certainly not of the “guidance” yesterday (understandably)! Wonder how long it will take to reach MSM.

borntobequiet · 16/07/2021 09:18

Wonder how long it will take to reach MSM.

As long as the media can be distracted by the fallout from the Euros and ephemera such as the Cannes Film Festival outfits. So ten days or so, resolutely ignored in the meantime by the BBC.

MiniCheddarMuncher · 16/07/2021 10:10

Brie my greece trip is still going ahead 🤞🏻although they have given unvaxxed people the option to refund or rearrange. I'm desperate to go, I miss my mum so much.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/07/2021 10:23

My school now only have year 8s and the A side of the timetable of yr7s left in school.
Multiple positive results in most classes.
We still have a week to go!!

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/07/2021 10:26

I'm assuming because I've been double vaccinated I don't have to isolate? As I have had students become ill later in the day / the next day etc, and I've been teaching them without masks or much ventilation. There is no way I have stayed 2m away at all times as we have been doing practicals!

cantkeepawayforever · 16/07/2021 10:28

I think the non-isolation for double vaccinated people is coming in from 16th August, not from now.

I am double vaccinated, but am isolating due to DD.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/07/2021 10:30

This half hearted isolating of pupils who have just sat next to the poorly pupil is just stupid. It's disruptive and achieves nothing in terms of stopping transmission.
They either need to say - "ok, all under 18s are going to have to catch it, so no more isolating unless you are actually poorly", or do it properly!

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/07/2021 10:31

Well my school don't even tell us who the positively tested pupils are. I only know if I sometimes catch a comment on Sims.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2021 10:39

It’s surprising the number of people who didn’t think Boris might have been lying when he said the lockdown was irreversible.

How many times does he have to lie about anything and everything before people stop trusting what he says.

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2021 10:45

Our school is mad today with people calling in with symptoms. I am not happy about working next week in a cess pit of cases.

Just thankful DS breaks up today and DH already has tbh .

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2021 10:47

Would love to have been a fly on the wall in the T and T meeting when some bigwig said 'well, we can't possibly do tracing for schools! Who gave you that stupid idea?' And the DfE bod said' oh well, OK, just don't bother then. Only sleepovers.'

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/07/2021 11:10

Rafa, you’re so right

What’s the betting the media will be blaming the total shitstorm that will be cases in kids in September, on…sleepovers!!
noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 11:56

What's also bugging me, Rafa is that they're saying that the app is pinging too many people and it needs to be adjusted or binned, but no one has any data on how effective it has been at reducing cases.

They know how many people it has pinged but they have no idea if those pings actually led to isolations. When I was pinged at school before Christmas I was told to ignore it. I imagine loads more people are ignoring it now.

noblegiraffe · 16/07/2021 12:31

Today's ONS graphs .... infection rates are shooting up in the unvaccinated and single vaccinated age groups. They really should have waited till the over 18s were double-jabbed before packing them into nightclubs.

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2021 12:33

Talking of graphs : fascinating.

But white working class boys, hey??

motherrunner · 16/07/2021 14:05

All of Yr 10 sent home today. They only came back Tuesday but there’s been more positives. 2 Yr 7 classes also sent home. What a way to start the holidays. It’s made up my mind to pull DCs out next week.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/07/2021 14:06

All slt seem to think it’s a good thing kids won’t have to isolate 🙈 Pointed out that it will just spread the ripples as people go off with positive tests rather than as contacts and it goes through the whole school including staff who will have to isolate which they acknowledged but you could see them mentally going shhhh la la la and sticking their cognitive fingers in their mental ears lol.

Another thirty odd kids sent home today including ones with a family member starting chemo, ones who are going to lose a fortune on holidays that were booked etc because a kids parents had tested positive but still sent their kids to school. I have no words! At times like this I feel we should be able to withdraw school places. Selfish stupidity that has cost other members of our community dearly.

Anyway I’m done. School is finito.

A colleagues pinged on Wednesday he was sent home after a call with PHE and then the same with myself yesterday.

Missed the last day! Hmm

Happy holidays to those finishing today.

Appuskidu · 16/07/2021 14:34

Whole of one of my DC’s year has just been sent home and my other one was home isolating anyway!

CallmeHendricks · 16/07/2021 15:11

And... my bubble's burst! We had 45 minutes this morning to get the whole classroom cleared of end of year stuff and three kids sent home.
So, home learning until next Thursday. Not that any of them will do it. Currently sitting in the garden with an ice cream.
