You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

I have so little patience this week. I am verging between anger and crying. Wtf is wrong with me?
It's the end of a very long term in a very long year after the longest shittest thing ever. I think we're all about the same.

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2021 06:49

mother you must actually have the patience of a saint if you didn't yell at neighbours/ report them!

I hope their party backfires and they catch covid / get a call from T and T and can't g away. Mwahahaha.

motherrunner · 14/07/2021 07:00

Yes I finish Friday. DC’s not til next Weds. I really want to keep them off but then I know they’ll be upset about missing their last few days of school.

Just gone onto my camping booking for this weekend to clarify check in time and it’s still saying I have an outstanding balance although I’ve paid it. They have been taken over by a new company so can only assume there’s been an admin error but it’s just another job to try and sort.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 14/07/2021 07:24

We finish Friday and I cannot wait. I just have my fingers crossed very tightly that we don't end up with our bubble popping so close to the finish line.

I have so much to get done that I am struggling to fit it all in. Inc outside of school stuff. Last night I said 'bugger it' and googled how to remove the one stitch I have left over from my biopsy as it looks 100% healed and the only time it is sore is when the stitch gets caught.
Obv I checked with mnet first! Then went for it.
Stitch is gone. I no longer have to run out of school asap and navigate all the parents cars to make my appointment in time. Phew.

MiniCheddarMuncher · 14/07/2021 08:01

Well done for standing up to that arsehole in the van honey - your poor neighbour! I hate teaching misogynistic boys, especially when I'm off (like now) and my (male) supply is having no problem with them at all!

LolaSmiles · 14/07/2021 08:30

Good for you standing up to the bully boy honey. Some men think highly of themselves and think nobody will challenge them.

We're down a couple of Bobs MsAwesomeDragon, but other students definitely have a mysterious illness that keeps them away from school for the final week. I can't blame the parents either. I've got a christening and a wedding early in the summer holidays and I'm hoping I can make it to Friday without being identified as a contact.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/07/2021 08:54

Grin at the near universal truth of Bob's having perfect attendance.

Today is a bit heavy on documentaries for year 7 (great series on What Did the Victorians Do For Us?) and I'm letting my year 8's watch an hour of the Butler this afternoon. Civil rights innit!

Roll on Friday.

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2021 09:43

This time of year is a smugly great time to teach film or media Grin. No need for guilt here.

MsAwesomeDragon · 14/07/2021 10:19

Apparently we don't count close contacts if they were outside Hmm Even when it was sports day and we had the whole yeargroup on the field in a small spectator area until their individual events. I asked how they were dealing with close contacts from sports day and was told they don't need to because it was outside, even though some of them were sharing water bottles (with the best will in the world I can't stop that in the uncontrolled environment of sports day), hanging out shoulder to shoulder for 2 hours (not even counting break or lunchtime). My year 12s have just asked why they're still here when there are only 16 from their year not currently isolating. I have no answer.

DanglingMod · 14/07/2021 10:51

Yeah, I don't think outside contact would count at all. And as for sharing water bottles, they do that all the time, don't they? That's never gonna count as a contact in school.

Loads of ill kids on every register right now. Not sure (like Christmas) if they're untested Covid cases, staying home so they don't get told to isolate first week of hols or genuine other illness. Not normally this level of illness in July, though Hmm

DanglingMod · 14/07/2021 10:52

One local school I know has 20 ish year 9s in out...out of 300... what is the point?

noblegiraffe · 14/07/2021 11:00

The important words in that article, Jan are “professional swabbing”.

I don't think PHE would agree with that...
Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2021 11:18

yes, it says this :

Our findings support this move, but ensuring tests are properly administered should be integral to any strategy.”

A colleague who was in hospital and tested said it felt like she was a mine under excavation when nurses did the tests,

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/07/2021 14:37

If I hadn’t had a PCR test first, I’m not sure I’d have stuck the LFT swab up quite so far when I started doing them. LAMP tests have arrived today so no more swabs here. Just spit in a pot.

Stagecoach in their wisdom have decided to respect people’s right to choose whether they wear a mask on the bus. Might need to make full use of the asthma cough to ensure the seat next to me is free.

In other news, we don’t have any icu beds. And not just in our trust. In the entire region. This whole freedom day thing seems to be going swimmingly.

HSHorror · 14/07/2021 14:40

And not the uk tests that usa have binned...

Dc2 is now a contact ruining our holiday. And obviously nervous.
So havent sent in dc1 as thereis a chance we may make week 2..
Dp tried out a lft negative he has a sore throat

HSHorror · 14/07/2021 14:41

Dp is only 4 days post jab 2

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/07/2021 14:54

DS sent home as contact from a school club. Two whole year groups plus club members all home. Furthermore case this afternoon reported in DD year group but she isn’t a contact… yet…. We’ve got rest of this week and next still…

borntobequiet · 14/07/2021 16:09

I once had a Bob who eventually told me he behaved so badly because he hated school, always had since he first set foot in primary, there was absolutely nothing about it he liked. I said in that case I felt sorry on his behalf and would get off his back, upon which he behaved better and once or twice actually did some work.
The weird thing was that he was never ever absent.

borntobequiet · 14/07/2021 16:12

Oh and sympathies to those worried about their holidays. It must be so stressful Flowers.

noblegiraffe · 14/07/2021 16:25

He seems to have totally inexplicably missed that Us4Them campaigned relentlessly to have no mitigation measures for kids. It wasn't just about getting kids back to school (with no masks), they've also been petitioning madly to not have them vaccinated.

Robert Halfon is talking out of his arse.

Isn’t that how Gilead was formed in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/07/2021 16:59

Does Halfon ever talk out of anything but his arse?
